Chapter 174 Someone Above Us

After reaching an agreement, Jiang Yu found the police officer in charge of the case and said she had something to say.

Jiang Dalong recounted everything from his mother's illness to Jiang Meier's instructions to buy rat poison under the guise of buying candy, and how he even overheard her urging Jiang Chun to hurry up and take action.

The police officer taking notes gripped her pen tightly. She couldn't believe someone could commit such a heinous act, instigating their own father to kill their own mother—it was an outrage against humanity.

Because he was young at the time, he wasn't a suspect, so this matter wasn't directly related to Jiang Dalong. Next, Jiang Meier was arrested and interrogated.

Although communication wasn't very advanced, I happened to have a relative working at the real estate bureau who worked at the local police station. After asking around, I learned that Jiang Meier was currently there processing paperwork and was about to sign some papers.

The staff used the excuse of machine malfunction to stall until the police arrived. Jiang Meier visibly panicked when she heard they were looking for her.

She borrowed a work phone and dialed an unfamiliar number. She breathed a sigh of relief and got into the police car.

At the police station, Jiang Dalong was in the interrogation room, while only Jiang Yu and Shen Ying were in the lobby. Jiang Meier, with a swollen face, looked at the two familiar figures, a knowing smile on her face.

The police officer next to her didn't give her a chance to speak and took her straight to another interrogation room.

"No matter what happens later, we must find out the child's whereabouts."

During the agonizing wait, Shen Ying looked at the woman beside him and said, "I don't know why, but finding someone should be such a simple thing, yet Jiang Meier is like an eel, I just can't find her."

They even once thought the other party had gone abroad.

Jiang Yu nodded in agreement. The police officers in the interrogation room went in and out, scratching their heads in frustration. No matter what they asked, the woman wouldn't speak; refusing to communicate was one thing, but after all that time, it was no use.

Around noon, the police station phone rang. The auxiliary police officer quickly answered the phone, initially thinking it was another case, but the person on the other end said they wanted to speak to Officer Lu.

Officer Lu, the officer in charge of the Jiang family case, answered the phone with a huff when he heard someone was looking for him. A few seconds later, his face softened with worry.

After a while, he timidly called out to the bureau chief across the street, trying his best to explain that he was just asking a question and that he was being treated well.

The bureau chief asked him what case he'd encountered, and why he'd brought back a living father. He said he'd been getting phone calls from above constantly, being berated like a grandson. They told him to interrogate him quickly, or release him.

After hanging up the phone, Officer Lu thought to himself:

No wonder that woman wouldn't say a word; she must have connections.

After exchanging a few words with his colleague who was interrogating Jiang Dalong, the two went back to their rooms separately. A short while later, Jiang Meier was released.

"Officer, why did you let her go? This woman is clearly the murderer of my mother, are you just going to let it go like this?"

At first, Jiang Yu thought that Jiang Dalong had changed his mind. But seeing that there was no movement in the interrogation room next door, she immediately dismissed this guess.

"No, she isn't. You two must have made a mistake. You're trying to frame someone to save your murderer father? Let me tell you, if this happens again, we'll pursue legal action for false accusation."

Another police officer surnamed Li, seeing that Jiang Yu was so beautiful that she would even frame her own sister, didn't know what to say.

"Let's let this go today, but if there's a next time, you won't be so lucky."

Jiang Meier issued a warning to Officer Lu. She thought to herself that having connections was indeed advantageous; it didn't matter how the truth was distorted.

"Yes, yes, we'll definitely be more careful next time."

The police officer bowed and scraped, afraid of being scolded by his superiors for doing something wrong. Jiang Meier was very satisfied with his behavior. In front of Jiang Yu, she snorted coldly, exuding provocation from head to toe.

Seeing this, Shen Ying wanted to chase after him to ask about something else, but was stopped by Officer Lu.

"You must be Comrade Shen Ying? I felt you looked familiar the moment you walked in. Commander Bai's secretary just called. He said if there's any misunderstanding, we should sit down and have a good talk. After all, we're all family, and it's not good for anyone if things get too tense."

"???"

The man couldn't understand why such a trivial matter could alarm Commander Bai. Just who was this Jiang Meier? Wasn't she just an ordinary woman from the Jiang family?

But for him, these things were irrelevant now; he had more important things to do. The man pushed aside the police officer and went out to chase after him.

"No need to waste your time. That woman has already been escorted back by a police car. In the future, let's assess our own strength first before trying to take down the other party."

Officer Lu followed, patted Shen Ying on the shoulder, and spoke earnestly. He had sensed something amiss from the very beginning of the interrogation. The innocent are innocent; if he hadn't done anything, there was no need for someone to bail him out.

But there's nothing I can do; my position prevents me from being completely impartial and incorruptible. The reason I spoke these words to Shen Ying was simply because I had long heard of his illustrious reputation, and now that I've met him, I still admire him greatly.

Not long after, Jiang Dalong was also released. He told Jiang Yu that the police listened very carefully at first, but in the end he said that he was too young at the time and his memory was not that strong, so he mixed it up.

Jiang Yu hesitated, the matter seemed very strange. The Jiang family had no powerful relatives, and Jiang Meier spent most of her time at home, her closest contact being Lu Yi.

Lu Yi isn't very capable, otherwise he wouldn't have been willing to work as a small group leader at Qingyun, and Su Jinshi wouldn't have bothered with their affairs.

The only suspicious thing could be her lucky charm. Remembering the novels she used to read, which often featured stories of real and fake heiresses, Jiang Yu thought to herself that this must be one of them.

But since she's already accepted it, she should be taken back by her powerful father to inherit the family fortune. Why would she be interested in Jiang Chun's self-built house?

It doesn't make sense, it really doesn't make sense.

After sending Jiang Dalong back, Jiang Yu and the man went to the hospital. Seeing that Shi Yangyang was much better, Shi Shumei also told them that they were trying their best to schedule the surgery earlier.

The most important thing now is to cooperate with the doctor's treatment and maintain a good mood.

She doesn't need to be present at the oil shop for the time being. Shen Ci goes over to check on it occasionally. Business is booming every day, and the two workers are busy until very late.

Jiang Yu nodded. Since it was still early, she thought she would go to Qingyun to see if she could sound out Lu Yi's intentions. He was the only one who could find Jiang Meier now.

The man instructed that no matter what happens, safety must be the top priority.

......

As Jiang Yu entered Qingyun Garment Factory, she noticed many cars parked in the courtyard. Puzzled, she went into the office building alone.

The room was eerily quiet; the employees at their workstations spoke in hushed tones, and even the sound of typing was barely audible. Just as she was about to ask someone, a loud bang came from the conference room door.

Looking through the glass window, one could see Principal Han of the prestigious school angrily slamming the contract onto the table.
