Chapter 183 Dirty Buns

Shen Wan assumed it was someone visiting and went out without any precautions.

At first glance, I saw Shen Ci holding a dirty child, which puzzled me. Just as I was about to ask where they had found the child, I turned around and saw a man I hadn't seen in a long time.

At this moment, Li Xianxue also saw her. The two looked at each other and were about to exclaim in surprise.

"You two know each other?"

Aside from the two older brothers who were focused on Gou Dan and didn't notice anything amiss, only Bai Chen was watching them intently, hoping for some kind of emotional clash.

"It's... alright."

Shen Wan lowered her head, blushing, trying her best not to be noticed. However, her two older brothers, being experienced in such matters, knew what was going on, but to save their sister's face, they didn't expose her.

"Comrade Shen Wan is a student at night school. He studies hard and is very intelligent."

Li Xianxue scratched his head, looking somewhat embarrassed.

At this point in the conversation, Shen Wan didn't ask any further about the child's origins. As she entered the room, her gaze lingered on the man.

At this moment, Zhao Meiyun was teaching the two children, Sui Sui and Niannian, how to make mung bean cakes. Although it was called making sweets, it was actually a process of trial and error.

Jiang Yu and Shen Ying haven't returned in the past two days. Shen Daniu brought back news that the two of them are at the hospital helping Shen Ci and Shi Shumei take care of Yangyang.

Although she couldn't offer much help, she could manage to stay home with Shen Wan and take care of the child.

Of course, since the two children met Yangyang at the hospital last time, they quickly accepted that he was the older brother.

So, taking advantage of the weekend, he pestered Zhao Meiyun to make mung bean cakes so he could take them to the hospital for Shi Yangyang to eat.

Zhao Meiyun knew nothing about making this kind of pastry. She had only seen it made a few times, and only by watching Jiang Yu do it. She had not learned the essence of it.

Unable to resist the two children's sweet calls of "Grandma," and not wanting to spoil the mood, I tried my best to make myself look presentable.

Hearing a noise outside, she rushed out without even taking off her apron. She thought a neighbor had come to visit, but when she saw Shen Ying, she assumed he had gone home to get something and went back to the kitchen to continue working.

In the instant he turned his head, his gaze fell upon the doorway, where he saw his eldest son, Shen Ci, holding a strange, dirty little child, with two people following behind.

She remembered Bai Chen and assumed he was accompanying the two children on business, so she didn't think much of it. But when she happened to see that the child's features looked exactly like Shen Ying's when he was a child, she was shocked.

The other was a refined young man whom I had never met before. Although his demeanor suggested he had grown up in a wealthy family, for some reason he was much more approachable than the prominent figures I had encountered in the city.

However, Jiang Yu was not among these people. Connecting this with some unrealistic ideas, he couldn't help but worry.

"Dad, where did this dirty bun come from?"

Seeing that her grandmother hadn't returned to the kitchen and that she had made a mess of the dough, Shen Niannian came out to see what had happened. After seeing Shen Yinghe and her uncle, her gaze focused on Gou Dan.

Meanwhile, Gou Dan was also looking at him. He had been on edge the whole way, worried about being resold to someone else. When he saw the chubby-cheeked Shen Niannian, dressed in pretty clothes, he was extremely envious.

"What did your mother teach you before? You can't be impolite. This child is..."

Shen Ying wanted to call out that awkward name, but after thinking about it, she realized that the child was coming back, and a new name would definitely be given when the child was registered. This unimportant name was better left alone.

“You are your and Sui Sui’s younger brother, and you will be family from now on.”

Taking this opportunity, Shen Ying called Shen Suisui and Zhao Meiyun over and briefly explained Gou Dan's background.

Upon hearing that the child was her abducted grandson, Zhao Meiyun nearly lost her composure, and her choked voice rang out in everyone's ears.

“My poor child, where did our Shen family go wrong to cause this mess? Thankfully, heaven has eyes and brought the bad guys to justice. Otherwise, my grandson would never have been able to return home for the rest of his life.”

Gou Dan's clothes were tattered, and he was wearing slippers he had taken from Shi Xinzhong's house. He would scratch his head from time to time, looking completely bewildered.

He was afraid of this unfamiliar home. But beyond fear, he was also filled with curiosity. In his worldview, everyone lived in dilapidated houses, without exception.

As Zhao Meiyun spoke, she reached out and took his little hand, wanting to give the child a bath and change him into clean clothes. Just then, the water in the kitchen boiled, and she thought it best to get things done quickly and comfortably.

Looking at his kind grandmother, Gou Dan was very obedient. He followed Zhao Meiyun obediently, but he was still a little scared when passing by Chen Niannian.

Shen Niannian was unhappy. He had initially thought the child was an adopted one, temporarily staying at their home. But as her father was explaining, her older sister briefly summarized the situation:

When he learned that this disheveled, dirty-looking boy was his parents' biological child and their younger brother, he felt like the sky had fallen.

But the family affection that two people enjoy is now being divided into three parts. It's so sad!

I stole a glance at the dirty bun, and felt so sorry for him. After a moment of hesitation, I blurted out:

"This is my grandmother."

Perhaps due to an unfriendly tone, he paused, then spoke in a low voice:

"If you want to share Grandma with me, you'll have to call me brother from now on, and you'll have to listen to me in everything you do."

"Okay, brother."

Gou Dan grinned, his smile exceptionally sweet. He was only three years old and didn't understand some things. The older boy in front of him, though fierce-looking, at least had a playmate.

As Shen Niannian was about to be born, Shen Ying was worried that the two children would fight, and her heart was in her throat. After hearing the two little ones getting along peacefully, she breathed a sigh of relief.
