Chapter 3 The Original Owner's Exquisite Little Sister

Jiang Yu felt a sudden discomfort in her nose, stopped sprinkling salt into the pot, and sneezed twice in a row.

Who's talking about me?

She watched as the meat in the pot was almost cooked, and the vegetables she'd added were also done. She grabbed a handful of cornmeal from the bowl, added a bowl of water, and kneaded it into a dough. She then pinched off pieces, flattened them into pancakes, and stuck them onto the pancakes. She opened the pot lid and stuck them onto the pancakes.

Chicken stewed in an iron pot sounds delicious.

It must be said that Shen Suisui's control of the heat was spot on. After finishing all that, Jiang Yu didn't rest either. She washed and chopped the remaining half of the cabbage, put salt on each layer, and chopped the chili peppers into small pieces and added them in.

I rummaged through drawers and cupboards, found a small bottle, rinsed it clean, and wiped away the few remaining water droplets. I put it back in the bottle and put the cap on.

After doing all that, the meat is ready.

Shen Niannian stared eagerly at the chicken in the pot, its aroma making him swoon. But he only dared to look from afar, afraid of upsetting his mother.

Jiang Yu deftly scooped the flatbread off the plate. She then picked out a lot of easy-to-eat meat and scooped it into a bowl, adding a spoonful of broth to enhance the flavor.

She carried three bowls into the small table in the inner room and called to the siblings.

"What are you standing there for? Wash your hands and eat."

Shen Niannian obediently turned on the tap and washed her little hands. Shen Suisui glanced at Jiang Yu, hesitated, and walked over.

Although she didn't understand why her mother had changed so drastically overnight, she remembered what Grandma Li had said a couple of days ago—that because of that man, she had become the center of attention in the village, utterly humiliated, and that's why she had to tone it down. She hoped her mother could maintain this behavior for a while longer.

Shen Sui Sui exposed her arm, but before she could even touch the water, there was a rapid knocking on the door.

The sound was like it was about to smash the door open, and Little Black in the yard started barking too.

Jiang Yu looked displeased, thinking to herself, "Who is it that's so rude? I might as well just take this door off and replace it with a new one."

She reluctantly opened the door, only to be met with a resentful face. The person shoved her away violently, with such force that she nearly fell to the ground.

"No, who are you, ma'am?"

Before Jiang Yu could react, the person had already entered the house. The two children, seeing the newcomer, huddled stiffly against the corner of the wall, trembling all over.

Once she saw the woman's face clearly, her memory started racing.

Jiang Meier, the original owner's younger sister. She frequently asks the original owner to buy her things and constantly instigates her to hit her child and argue with her husband. She's also having an affair with the original owner's 'lover' and taking advantage of her.

It's unclear why the original owner obeyed her every word; the novel's author didn't explain it clearly.

"Jiang Yu, I didn't believe the rumors in the village that you were secretly making delicious food at home, but I actually caught you."

Jiang Meier pointed at the meat on the table and questioned her aggressively. She was furious that the woman would dare to eat alone.

"Go and bring me a bowl of meat. Remember, no vegetables at all."

She pointed at Shen Suisui, her tone extremely unfriendly, as if ordering a maid around. Shen Suisui glanced at Jiang Yu, her clenched hands relaxed, and she quickly walked towards the outer room.

She disliked this aunt, and every time she came, she would instigate her mother to beat her and her younger brother.

She remembered the worst time was when she forgot to bring her aunt a cup during a meal, and scalding hot water was poured on her arm, causing her to almost faint from the pain. She still has a scar from that incident. But she didn't dare to disobey her, at least not yet.

Jiang Yu stopped Shen Suisui.

"Excuse me, this is my home. If you want to eat, you have to pay first, and you have to serve yourself. No one will wait on you."

For a moment, Shen Suisui's eyes were filled with light.

This was the first time her mother had spoken up for her since she could remember, and the other party was her domineering aunt.

Jiang Meier thought she had misheard. She only knew that Jiang Yu had lost face, completely unaware that the soul inside this body had changed.

"Jiang Yu, don't go too far. I'm your only sister. Besides, I've been keeping your relationship with Lu Yi a secret from my brother-in-law."

Jiang Meier, with a look of smug satisfaction, warned her that if Shen Ying knew what she had done, he would definitely divorce her. In her current state, without her husband's support, she would only starve to death.

Jiang Yu rolled her eyes at her and then burst out laughing.

Everyone assumed the original owner of this body and Lu Yi were having an affair, but only she, who had read the original storyline, knew the truth. It was all a conspiracy they had orchestrated.

The original owner fell into the lake and almost drowned. It was the male lead, Shen Ying, who saved her, but he had to leave in a hurry because of something that happened in the army. When she woke up, she found that it was Lu Yi, a literary youth who had gone to the countryside, who was patting her face and asking what happened.

The original owner mistakenly believed Lu Yi was her savior, and upon learning his true identity, she idolized him greatly. She even married Shen Ying on his orders, all so that he could control her and allow Lu Yi to squander Shen Ying's money.

Aside from financial transactions, she and Lu Yi never even held hands.

Jiang Yu knew all of this, but Jiang Meier thought she didn't.

"Okay, then go tell him and see if he believes you or me."

Jiang Yu played with the hair in her hand, looking at her without any panic.

Shen Ying disliked this sister-in-law the most; she was a snob.

Jiang Meier frowned. She felt there was something off about the woman in front of her, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. Could it be that the last incident had been too much of a blow to her, and she had suddenly become enlightened?

"Didn't you keep saying you loved Lu Yi? How come you stopped loving him after just a little setback? If that's the case, isn't your love a bit too cheap?"

Everyone knows that Jiang Yu, the eldest daughter of the Jiang family, is in love with Lu Yi to the point of obsession, and is even willing to act like a clown just to make him smile.

Hearing her words, Shen Suisui trembled uncontrollably. If her aunt succeeded in brainwashing her mother, she and her brother would be the ones to suffer.

"When did I ever say I loved him? If you have nothing else to do, go back. Also, never come to my house again; you're not welcome here."

Hearing this, Shen Suisui breathed a sigh of relief.

After Jiang Yu finished speaking, she was about to shoo her away, as the meat would get cold if she continued to argue with her. Jiang Meier looked at the meat in her bowl and said, "You can leave, but you have to eat your fill first."

"I'm a guest, shouldn't you let me finish my meal before I go back?"

This huge pot of meat looks absolutely irresistible.

She thought that if she softened her stance, Jiang Yu would at least give her some face. After all, she had always been the one to throw her weight around at home since she was a child, and her parents always favored her.

"You come here 800 times a day and you're still a guest? You've eaten all the good food in our house, aren't you satisfied? I've already told you, if you want to eat, you can give me ten yuan first, to see your sincerity."

Jiang Yu didn't indulge her at all.

"How much? Ten yuan?"

In this day and age, a chicken costs at most three yuan. She's asking for ten yuan; she might as well rob someone. Seeing that she wouldn't budge, Jiang Meier reluctantly left. Before leaving, she glanced at the pot.

Okay, then let's wait for her to go and complain to Brother Lu Yi. Jiang Yu won't be able to see him again.
