The group had all gone to visit relatives during the day and were unaware that Shen Ying had started a fire at home. After hearing about it from the villagers, they discussed it and decided to come and help immediately. They wanted to get as much work as possible while he was at home, as they wouldn't feel comfortable leaving their children and wives at home after he went to the army.
With Shen Ying added to the pile, the crumbling wall collapsed to the ground. Seeing everyone covered in dust, Shen Ying decided to ask the woman to prepare some food so that they could stay for dinner.
Upon entering the house, I found it steaming hot. Jiang Yu had her hair up and was kneading dough to make steamed buns. Realizing there would be a baby, she grabbed a handful of sugar and steamed a few triangular sugar buns.
It was warm inside, and since she had been busy, she took off her cotton coat and was only wearing a sweater.
Even so, her face was still flushed, and Shen Ying was a little embarrassed to speak. After all, he was the one who wanted to build the house, and he hadn't even asked this woman for her opinion. Now that he was asking her for help, she definitely wouldn't agree.
“You’re back. This is what I was thinking. They’ve helped us all afternoon. Let’s invite them to dinner at our house tonight. Jiang Yu put the last steamed bun into the pot, added firewood to the stove, and explained her plan. Worried she wouldn't be able to manage, she called Wang Cuihua for help, and she arrived shortly after.
Jiang Yu seemed to have thought of something, and pointed to the rock sugar plum tea on the table in the inner room:
"Drink some of the tea I brewed if you feel thirsty."
