Chapter 8: Getting Money to Buy Goods

Jin Juan didn't say anything. She had been running the shop for so long and had never been ripped off before. Besides, the design was already done, and she could make it herself, so why spend fifty yuan? Fifty yuan was more than half a month's salary for her.

Seeing her dawdling, Li Xue grew impatient. She wouldn't stand for it if someone tried to buy her time.

"Either you listen to the girl, or your shop closes tomorrow."

Jin Juan's ulterior motives were too obvious, and Li Xue didn't have time to waste with her. Besides, it was just fifty yuan to solve the problem, nothing serious. What she wanted was an attitude; otherwise, the practice of simply giving refunds for damaged clothes was becoming too prevalent.

Hearing this, Jin Juan didn't dare to breathe. The other woman had extensive connections; if she didn't agree, the shop might really be demolished tomorrow. She couldn't take that risk. Besides, the location was prime, with many regular customers; closing the shop for fifty yuan would be a huge loss.

In the end, Jin Juan reluctantly agreed.

Having agreed on the price, Jiang Yu didn't linger any longer. She pulled a piece of fabric with a gauze layer from the clothes rack and wrapped it around Li Xue's body to measure it.

During this time, he also made sure to ask for her opinion:

"Madam, what do you think of this fabric? It makes your skin look very fair, and it matches this dress quite well."

Li Xue looked at herself in the mirror and realized she was indeed as Jiang Yu had described. She nodded in satisfaction, repeatedly saying "Not bad."

Jiang Yu picked up the tape measure from the table, placed it on her waist to measure, and then picked up the clothes on the ground to get the size.

She picked up the scissors again and began cutting the fabric she had just chosen. Her movements were swift, and she neatly placed the items she used back where they were, which was pleasing to the eye.

Compared to Jin Juan, Jiang Yu's skills were more professional. Li Xue's worries subsided, and she was certain that the young girl in front of her was definitely an experienced seamstress.

When it came time to cut the clothes, Jin Juan didn't dare to breathe. Giving her no chance to worry, Jiang Yu quickly cut open the waist section.

Then she sat in Jin Juan's seat, her feet pressing the sewing machine, opening and closing it.

The sewing machines of the 1980s made a clicking sound, which, along with the movements of her hands, made people drowsy.

In less than an hour, Jiang Yu finished. She swept up the loose threads on the table and picked up the clothes to shake off the strips of fabric.

"Madam, please try it."

Li Xue sat on the sofa and closed her eyes for a short nap. When she heard someone calling her, she quickly opened her eyes.

She took the clothes and went into the fitting room.

When she came out again, Li Xue's eyes lit up as she looked at herself in the mirror. The excess fat on her stomach was now concealed, and the lace embellishments elevated the dress to a whole new level. Was this really her? It was as if she were a completely different person.

Jin Juan was also completely astonished. She had thought it was just a minor modification, but she never expected the effect to be so good.

Jiang Yu could see the satisfaction on their faces, and said with a smile:

"Madam, you could try green fabric next time; it will make your skin look even fairer."

She wasn't trying to flatter him, because Li Xue's skin was already very fair, and green would give people a visual impact, making her look dignified and kind.

Li Xue nodded perfunctorily, still immersed in the joy of the clothes, and wouldn't listen to anything anyone else said.

"What's your name, little girl? Where are you from? I'll come to you again next time I need clothes made."

After changing out of her new clothes and packing them up, Li Xue greeted Jiang Yu warmly. She felt like she had struck gold and naturally didn't want others to find out.

"My name is Jiang Yu, and I live in Shenjiazhuang. However, you probably won't be able to find me next time you want clothes made, because I don't have the capital to open a clothing store yet. But once I have the money to open a store, I'll definitely make you my first customer."

Li Xue felt like she'd heard the name somewhere before, but couldn't quite place it. She guessed it was because she'd been so busy lately; her mind was probably a bit muddled.

She picked up a coat from the hanger, put it on, and introduced herself.

"I am Li Xue, the wife of Regiment Commander Zhang of the military region. If you encounter any difficulties in opening the shop in the future, please feel free to come to me."

Jiang Yu's heart skipped a beat. Commander Zhang, the male lead Shen Ying's superior, greatly admired him. Now, to make matters worse, she'd just arrived in the city and already bumped into the male lead's superior's wife, and in this kind of situation no less.

However, it seems that Li Xue does not know the original owner, and she does not intend to reveal this relationship. A person like the original owner has never done anything good except cause trouble for Shen Ying.

She is not the male lead's wife, so it's best if the two of them don't have too much involvement.

Li Xue didn't notice Jiang Yu's awkwardness. After her cheerful introduction, she didn't forget to remind Jin Juan:

“Jiang Yu has already finished preparing everything, so don’t try to renege on your debt. I’ll stay here and watch over things until I pay her before I leave.”

Seeing that she had already said that, Jin Juan didn't dare to say another word. She went into the inner room, took out five ten-yuan bills, and reluctantly handed them to Jiang Yu.

Jiang Yu didn't stand on ceremony with her, took the money, counted it, and then put it in her pocket.

Before leaving, Li Xue didn't forget to remind him:

"Girl, the bus to Shenjiazhuang takes almost two hours. Are you just going to wait here?"

Li Xue asked this question with a hidden agenda. She found Jiang Yu to be straightforward and had good taste. She was also thinking about matching some jewelry with the outfit and whether she could invite Jiang Yu to join her.

"Madam, we're out of seasonings at home. I need to go to the supply and marketing cooperative."

Jiang Yu was still thinking about the humiliation she suffered at noon at Zhang Yanfang's hands. Now that she had money, she was determined to spend it all and make Zhang Yanfang look down on her.

"No need to be so polite, you can just call me Sister Xue."

Seeing that she was a little reserved, Li Xue assumed that her identity had frightened her, or that the argument in the store had made her feel like a shrew.

"To be honest, I still need to buy a necklace and bracelet. After you finish shopping, do me the honor of coming. I won't let you shop for nothing; I'll give you ten yuan as a reward if you find something suitable."

She explained her needs, since the supply and marketing cooperative wasn't far from the jewelry store and it was on the way anyway. Plus, they had agreed to pay her, so it seemed like a great deal.

"I have plenty of time, so I don't need any payment. It's just something I do on the side."

Jiang Yu smiled. Although ten yuan was tempting, it was nothing compared to what she might need from Li Xue in the future.

"this..."

Seeing Jiang Yu's insistence, Li Xue felt embarrassed. She was usually the one asking Jiang Yu for favors, and now that she was being asked to help for no reason, she really didn't know what to say.

"Sister Xue, you have such a noble status, yet you still make me call you sister. No matter how you look at it, I'm the one who's getting the better deal."

Jiang Yu was afraid that she might feel burdened, so she couldn't help but explain.

Besides, it would be respectable to have the regimental commander's wife accompany her to the supply and marketing cooperative to buy things.
