Shen Ying is a very farsighted person, and he naturally knows what learning means for his younger sister. He doesn't expect her to get promoted or become wealthy, but having a contract to review is quite useful when working in a factory. Otherwise, she might end up like this time, inexplicably dismissed without any compensation.
He secretly glanced at Jiang Yu and found that the woman also seemed to be strongly supporting Shen Wan. Her expression was natural and there was no pretense. He couldn't help but look at her with new respect.
He walked over to his sister, patted her on the shoulder, and said:
“If you’re really determined, I’ll talk to Mom about this. Who says a woman has to get married and have children? That’s just ignorant thinking.”
Jiang Yu looked embarrassed, feeling like she had been mistakenly hurt.
Noticing that her face looked pale, Shen Wan patted her brother, thinking to herself that he was such a clueless straight man who didn't even understand the principle that one shouldn't say things carelessly.
"Sister-in-law...that's not what my brother meant."
Shen Wan explained for him, and while forcing a smile, she couldn't help but glance at Jiang Yu again, before lowering her head like a child who had made a mistake.
The atmosphere became awkward, and when Shen Ying realized there was something wrong with what she said, she tried to salvage the situation.
"Of course, everyone's choices are different. If you meet a good man, there's nothing wrong with getting married."
Upon hearing this, Shen Wan couldn't help but roll her eyes. This wasn't making amends; it was clearly just another form of self-praise. Over the years, how come she's become more and more narcissistic?
Jiang Yu ignored him and poured the glutinous rice balls she had bought into the pot after the water boiled. Following the children's preference, she added some sugar.
This was the first time I cooked glutinous rice balls for my family, and I didn't know if they would like them, so I made five for each person. In short, she really didn't like them and found them a bit too greasy.
Shen Ying stood to the side, unsure of what to do to ease the woman's dissatisfaction, but Jiang Yu clearly didn't take his words to heart.
Before going to bed that night, Shen Ying had a long talk with Zhao Meiyun and analyzed the future situation for her. Zhao Meiyun was confused, but she eventually relented and said that there was plenty of time to discuss such matters later.
When he returned to the east room, Jiang Yu was still cutting fabric. The bed was covered with needles and thread. He touched the tip of his nose, somewhat embarrassed, and said:
"I'll get an electrician to connect the wires tomorrow, so I don't have to stay up all night and strain my eyes."
"Um."
Jiang Yu agreed and didn't continue speaking; the two remained silent for a long time. The night was as quiet as ever, and the man was reading a book. The candle on the table was down to the size of a fingernail. While replacing it with another candle, he happened to see some notes in a notebook, along with information about where clothes were made.
Shen Ying was surprised that this year the performing arts troupe hadn't used the same manufacturer as before, but instead had found Jiang Yu. Seeing Li Xue's name, however, didn't elicit much surprise.
It makes sense, considering how good her relationship with Commander Zhang's wife seemed; it's perfectly normal for her to ask Jiang Yu to make clothes for her.
But...did she know that the military required the clothing factory's designer to go to the provincial capital with them? And he was also going to participate in a competition, so he was supposed to go with the cultural troupe this year.
Shen opened his mouth, but hesitated, unsure of how to begin.
Jiang Yu didn't think much of it. After tidying up the fabric, she stretched and crawled into bed. It was warmer tonight than last night. In her drowsy state, she felt the man tucking her in.
After a night's rest, she felt full of energy again. Eating the breakfast Zhao Meiyun had made, she planned to go to the department store to finish her work using the shop's sewing machine.
As soon as Jiang Yu went up to the second floor, she heard a sound coming from the store entrance. Several burly men with fierce looks were standing in front of her Sui Sui Nian Nian clothing store, looking like they were not to be trifled with.
"Brother Jing, why isn't this shop open yet? Could the information be wrong?"
The man spoke in a fawning tone towards the inside. Right in the center of the clothing store's entrance was a chair, where his boss sat.
Liu Cui would peek over every now and then, and when she saw Jiang Yu, she would quickly pull her to a corner.
"This morning, a few men who looked very hostile came and have been waiting in front of your shop for ages. From what they were saying, they said that you stole the order that should have been placed with their clothing factory. What exactly happened?"
These days, public security isn't great, and the wealthy are in power; if something happens, it's hard to explain. Liu Cui was worried that she might have offended someone she shouldn't have, which was why she was in trouble.
Jiang Yu thought back for a moment, and apart from Li Xue commissioning her to make costumes for the performing arts troupe, there didn't seem to be any other big orders she had received recently.
Looking puzzled, she was about to go over and ask what was going on when Liu Cui stopped her in time.
"Hey, we haven't even figured out the situation yet. It would be too dangerous for you to go now."
"It's nothing, I'm just going over to ask, it shouldn't be a big problem."
God knows how rushed the work she's been putting on the schedule these past few days has been. The more hesitant she is now, the later the completion date will be. If this continues, all subsequent progress will be delayed.
Despite Liu Cui's worries, she steeled herself and walked into the shop, clinging to a sliver of hope. She had to admit, it was all a misunderstanding; surely explaining things would resolve the issue? If all else failed, they could at least discuss a sale.
"What are you gentlemen doing sitting here?"
Jiang Yu flashed a row of teeth, maintaining a professional smile to appear as friendly as possible. They surely understood the saying, "You can't hit a smiling face."
"Go away, what's it to you?"
The man in front of him clearly didn't know the meaning of chivalry; in his eyes, this woman, though pretty, was nothing but a nuisance. She even wanted to ask him questions—didn't she know who his superior was?
The man was incredibly strong, and Jiang Yu nearly fell to the ground as he shoved her. She straightened her clothes, suppressed her anger, and prepared to reveal her identity.
After calming myself down, I went to the store again:
"This is my shop entrance. You're obstructing my business. Could you please move aside a little?"
With people coming and going, these people should behave themselves. Jiang Yu pondered that she shouldn't cause too much trouble, otherwise it would be difficult to handle the situation.
"Oh? This young lady is quite shrewd at such a young age."
The man who had just pushed her found it somewhat amusing to hear the new words. Even if he didn't believe Jiang Yu's story, he was afraid people would laugh at him for telling them about the deal he did in the army that was stolen by a young girl.
“If you don’t believe me, you can use the key I have to open the door. If you can open it, wouldn’t that prove whether I’m lying or not? Of course, after you’ve verified it, I hope you’ll give me an explanation as to why you’re blocking the shop and preventing me from doing business.”
Jiang Yu took a bunch of keys out of her pocket and placed them in her palm. In broad daylight, under the clear sky, these people were just bored and had nothing better to do.
