Without a word, Dong Er picked up the money from the ground, dusted it off, and placed it neatly in front of Da Shuan. He then hunched over, grabbed the woman beside him without looking back, and ran. If he dared to accept the money, the consequences would be far more than just paying off the debt.
Many of the onlookers recognized Da Shuan and, fearing trouble, scattered in a flash. Only Liu Cui remained standing there, still shaken.
Jiang Yu introduced Da Shuan's identity to her, chatted for a bit, and then returned to the clothing store.
At that moment, Su Yujing was rubbing her sleepy eyes, looking at the person who had just rushed in from outside, completely bewildered.
"Boss, I've solved a huge problem for Miss Jiang. I haven't let you down, have I?"
Da Shuan eagerly recounted the events, his voice rising several decibels at the most exciting parts. He figured he was clearly helping his boss pursue the woman and should receive a small compliment.
Out of politeness that they were in Jiang Yu's clothing store, Su Yujing forced a smile, then expressionlessly straightened her clothes and got up to leave. At the door, she seemed to remember something and paused:
"Comrade Jiang, I will draft a contract according to your requirements as soon as possible and send it over. I hope that once this matter is settled, it will bring benefits to Qingyun as soon as possible."
"Waiting for good news."
Seeing that it was getting late, Jiang Yu tidied up the tools in the shop, casually draped the blanket that Su Yujing had just covered her with on the shelf, turned off the lights, and locked the door.
As I was leaving the mall, I bumped into Li Xue, who was walking towards me.
“Jiang Yu, it’s quite a coincidence to see you today. I just wanted to let you know. We received a notice from the province that the cultural troupe will be leaving in a week. I’ll feel at ease knowing you’re going with Brother Shen Ying.”
Hearing that Commander Bai's niece had returned to China, he went to welcome her back and also intended to find outstanding young men in the army to act as matchmakers for her. At the time, when her husband, Old Zhang, mentioned that Commander Bai had taken a liking to Shen Ying, she didn't think much of it. But now that she knew his lover was Jiang Yu, she was determined to nip that idea in the bud.
Anyway, Jiang Yu is going too, so Commander Bai can't possibly steal her away in front of Shen Ying's lover, can he?
Of course, Li Xue didn't tell her a word of these thoughts. She mostly just told her that if she fell behind schedule and needed anything, she should just come to her.
Jiang Yu felt immense pressure, constantly thinking about how to catch up on the schedule, and before she knew it, she had arrived at the school gate.
On the way to the bus stop after picking up Shen Suisui, a ragged beggar was rummaging through a trash can for food. Recalling her past experiences of not having enough to eat, Shen Suisui, with her mother's permission, put half a cornbread from her schoolbag into the broken bowl.
The beggar wanted to thank her, but upon seeing the person's appearance, he was so frightened that he brushed aside his dirty hair, trying his best to prevent her from seeing him.
Without thinking much, Shen Suisui skipped back to Jiang Yu's side.
Seeing Chen Suisui walk away, the beggar clutched the flatbread in her hand and wolfed it down, looking as if she had been starving for a long time. She kept staring at the backs of the mother and daughter, a hint of viciousness flashing in her jealous eyes.
......
Back home, Zhao Meilan had already heated up the food. Shen Niannian nestled in her arms, listening to her tell stories passed down from the older generation. Shen Ying moved the things from the north room to the east room, planning to demolish the house tomorrow.
The sound of a sewing machine clicking away came from inside the room; it was obvious that Shen Wan was still busy.
Upon seeing Jiang Yu and Shen Suisui return, Shen Niannian ran away from her grandmother's arms, grabbed her mother's other hand, and walked into the house.
Zhao Meilan cleared the dishes and reminded everyone to prepare for dinner.
Jiang Yu walked into the inner room alone and saw the fruits of Shen Wan's labor laid out on the kang. She glanced at them and could tell that every stitch of the clothes had been carefully made.
"Sister-in-law, you're back."
Shen Wan noticed someone approaching and stopped what she was doing. When she saw it was Jiang Yu, she was overjoyed. She had spent the whole day trying to find someone with whom she could share common interests at work, but unfortunately, her mother and second brother were completely clueless, so it all came to nothing.
Jiang Yu returned at this moment, and she asked her sister-in-law for clarification on some things she didn't understand.
"Wanwan, there's something I need to talk to you about and ask for your opinion on."
Jiang Yu put down the clothes she was wearing and explained the situation regarding the tight deadline. For Shen Wan, it was simply a matter of staying up late, doing more work, and then resting after finishing this big order. However, Jiang Yu felt that it was too tiring with just the two of them.
"Never mind that for now. I have something else I need to discuss with you. Let's eat first, and we can talk about it at the dinner table."
Seeing Jiang Yu's serious expression, Shen Wan couldn't help but feel nervous as well. This was the first time she had felt such seriousness since returning from her trip.
At the dinner table, Zhao Meiyun was serving rice to the two children. When she saw Jiang Yu and Shen Wan come out of the house, her expression was somewhat intriguing. Her heart skipped a beat, and even her movements slowed down.
In her opinion, she wondered if Shen Wan had broken something again, which had upset her sister-in-law.
After a long day of work, Shen Ying washed her face under the tap, picked up her rice bowl from the table, and started eating. She had no idea that something big was about to happen.
"Jiang Yu, you must be tired after a long day. I made this meal the way I always do, but it probably doesn't suit your taste. I'll ask around these next couple of days and try to make it to your liking."
The air was eerily quiet, and Zhao Meiyun, feeling somewhat uneasy, broke the silence first.
Sensing something was wrong, Shen Ying put down the bowl in her hand and was about to speak when Jiang Yu spoke first.
"Mom, your cooking is delicious. And taking care of Niannian at home is already hard enough, so don't think about these things and tire yourself out. There's something I wanted to say after everyone finished eating, but it's making everyone anxious, so I'll say it now."
"Here's the thing, I plan to finish this order and then hand over the clothing store to Wanwan to manage. Firstly, it's to give her some experience, and secondly, I've really been quite busy lately and haven't been able to handle these things. There are quite a few customers in the store, and I don't feel comfortable leaving it to someone else."
But Wanwan is different; she's meticulous and rigorous, which suits her perfectly.
Jiang Yu spoke her mind somewhat embarrassedly. The matter itself wasn't a big deal, but now everyone was starting to think something was wrong.
"I...I can't do it, sister-in-law. I've always worked in factories and have never run a business on my own. If I mess it up, all your hard work will be ruined."
Shen Wan found this story utterly unbelievable. Keeping her at home doing chores was fine, but dealing with customers would inevitably lead to trouble. What if she messed things up and let her sister-in-law down? The thought was terrifying.
"Yes, Wanwan is right. If this clothing store is ruined in her hands, it will be difficult to rebuild its reputation."
Zhao Meiyun didn't want her daughter-in-law's hard work to be ruined by her daughter.
What do you think?
Jiang Yu looked at the man who seemed uninvolved and asked.
