Chapter 162 Is the Shen family coming to snatch the child?

"Good boy."

Shi Shumei could no longer hold back, and with tears in her eyes, she hugged him tightly and burst into tears. Seeing this, Shen Niannian reached out her little hand and patted her aunt's back, trying to comfort her.

Finally, Zhao Meiyun spoke:

"I don't know how my eldest grandson is doing in the hospital. Give me the address later, and Wanwan and I will go check on him."

She still cared about the child. Although the child's surname was Shi, he was still half of their family blood. Zhao Meiyun didn't care that much about the surname, and during the conversation, she intentionally or unintentionally hinted at her plans: as long as the child could grow up healthy and safe, the surname didn't matter.

After obtaining Shi Shumei's permission, Shen Ci found a piece of paper, wrote down the address, and handed it to Shen Wan. Remembering that his sister couldn't read, he repeated the contents of the paper several times, still feeling somewhat uneasy.

"I recognize the Municipal People's Hospital."

After attending night school for a few days, and with her quick wit, Shen Wan learned quite a few characters. She reassured her brother and sister-in-law that they wouldn't get lost with their mother and nephew.

"Let's go together."

When Jiang Yu learned that Shi Shumei and Shen Ci were going to the sesame oil shop, she went to the bank to withdraw some money. She would give it to her older brother's family to use first, and then go to Qingyun to ask for her wages after the surgery time and cost were confirmed.

Shen Ying knew her thoughts and fully supported them. Since the two of them had arrived on Zhang Ergou's motorcycle, and the bus stop wasn't far away, he planned to take Zhao Meiyun and Shen Niannian there first, and then come back to pick up Jiang Yu and her sister.

“I’m getting old and it’s not comfortable for me to travel by car. You and Ayu take Niannian first, Wanwan and I will be there soon.”

Seeing that Zhao Meiyun was determined not to get on the bus, Shen Ying didn't press the matter further. He couldn't change the older generation's mindset, so he didn't want to make a fool of himself.

Driven by curiosity, Shen Niannian sat in front of and behind the car, touching it with eyes that seemed to be shining.

"Dad, this car is so fast! I've never ridden in one before."

On the way, Shen Ying was worried that the child wouldn't be able to adapt, so she deliberately slowed down. The wind whistled past her ears, making Shen Niannian's ears itch. When he spoke, he felt the wind blowing into his mouth, so he had to lean over the front of the car and cover his little mouth to speak.

"If you like it, buy one in a while and take your sister for a drive."

Hearing his son's words, Shen Ying became even more determined to buy a car.

The car quickly arrived at the bank. Jiang Yu took out five hundred yuan from her passbook, put it in her pocket, and prepared to leave.

They happened to run into Li Xianxue, who was returning from running errands. The two exchanged a quick greeting, and the woman's casual remark made the man blush.

"Comrade Li, do you teach at night school?"

Remembering how my sister-in-law would always look shy whenever I talked to Shen Wan about night school, and even mentioned staying in the school dormitory for a couple of days. I later learned that Li Xianxue was working part-time there and was taking good care of her.

"Ah, yes."

The man didn't hesitate and readily admitted it. He thought the other person was just asking casually and didn't take it seriously.

"Wanwan is a very good girl. You must hold on tightly to the happiness you have, and don't let it slip away."

Jiang Yu felt that her hints were clear enough. After she left, the man stood there stunned for a long time before he understood the meaning behind her words.

She blushed and began to scold herself:

Everyone says you're smart, so why do you become so oblivious when it comes to relationships or related topics?

......

The hospital was filled with the smell of disinfectant, and patients and their families hurried to and fro, afraid that a second's delay would cause a major lapse.

Shen Niannian covered his nose, having an indescribable feeling about the smell. He followed his mother, clutching the woman's clothes tightly.

Some of the patients were feeling unwell, their faces pale and their expressions contorted. They clutched their aching spots, groaning and moaning. This frightened Shen Niannian, who tightly closed her eyes, unable to look around.

The woman, noticing something amiss, stopped and whispered in his ear:

"They're just in so much pain that they have no choice but to act strangely. Like when you had appendicitis last time, weren't you clutching your stomach?"

After her reminder, Shen Niannian thought about it and realized it made sense, so he tried to open his eyes to adjust. But he was too short, and even from the same angle, he was still a little scared.

Seeing this, Shen Ying bent down and picked him up. Once his vision cleared, he was alright.

After asking the medical staff, I learned that Shi Yangyang was in the pediatric ward, so I rushed over. From the moment I entered the ward, the sound of children crying filled the air.

After asking for the bed number at the nurses' station, the family of three walked down a long corridor. Pushing open the door, they found a child inside receiving an injection, crying his heart out. The parents tried to comfort him, but to no avail.

Upon seeing this, Shen Niannian recalled the feeling of the needle piercing her flesh when her grandfather received an injection, and she was so frightened that she shuddered.

This is a three-person ward. Besides Shi Yangyang, there are two other children. The little girl on the outermost bed is receiving an injection. She looks about the same age as Shen Niannian. Her hair has been shaved off because of chemotherapy.

The child in the middle was older than them, and looked to be in middle school. He was covered in tubes, and his expression was blank, as if he had already gotten used to this kind of life.

At the very back, in Shi Yangyang's bed, which is next to the window, one can see the outside view while sitting on the bed.

Compared to the other two, he was much better off. He still had hair, and he was fiddling with a folded paper airplane in his hand, saying nothing. Sitting on the chair next to him was a woman about the same age as Zhao Meiyun, presumably his sister-in-law's aunt.

A family of three entered the ward. The woman was beautiful and elegantly dressed. The man had striking features and exuded an aura of righteousness that kept bad people at bay. The child in his arms was vibrant and full of life, like a sapling in spring, growing strong and healthy, which made the family members in the ward extremely envious.

At the same time, they looked at each other, guessing whose family this was.

"Brother Yangyang."

Perhaps it was their blood relation or mutual attraction, but Shen Niannian recognized Shi Yangyang at a glance. He got out of the man's arms and went straight to the hospital bed.

Shi Yangyang's eyes and eyebrows are somewhat similar to Shen Niannian's, with large, grape-like eyes and thick eyebrows. She inherited Shi Shumei's round face, making her look like a New Year's picture doll.

At Shen Niannian's call, he raised his eyes, looking completely bewildered:

"Who are you?"

"I am Niannian's younger brother."

As he introduced himself, he didn't forget to take a handful of White Rabbit milk candies from his pocket, place them next to Shi Yangyang, and smile broadly:

"I brought some candy for my brother, it's so delicious, why don't you try some?"

After saying that, he picked up a piece and put it in the other person's hand.

When the aunt saw that the two children looked alike, she looked up and met Shen Ying's eyes. His features were extremely similar to Shen Ci's, and her heart pounded.

"You, from the Shen family? Are you here to snatch the child?"

While remaining vigilant, he asked in a trembling voice.
