"Is that the King of Wild Boars?!"
A bold woman went up and kicked the already dead wild boar.
"My goodness, it looks like it weighs four or five hundred pounds."
"This one alone is enough to feed all of us."
The South is indeed rich in resources; even the wild boars in the mountains are so fat and strong.
With a sword tucked at his waist, Yun Ming and Yun Kang looked as if they had rolled in a mud pit. The two of them stood proudly in front of the aunties, receiving their praise.
"I never expected Young Master Yun to be as capable as his second and third brothers. He truly deserves to be from a family of generals!"
Yun Kang, standing beside him, looked even more proud. Although his father was not a military general, his grandfather was.
"Young Master Yun, will we be able to have meat for lunch?"
Yun Ming said boldly, "Eat! With so many wild boars, we definitely have to eat them."
As he spoke, he couldn't help but slurp his saliva; he hadn't eaten meat in a long time.
Yunming looked up and saw Lin Yinan and his eldest sister Yunyan standing in the crowd. He hurriedly shouted to them, "Eldest sister, third sister-in-law, third brother asked me to tell you that you can decide what to do with these wild boars."
Not seeing Yun Mo return, Lin Yinan asked, "Where's your third brother?"
Yunming: "He has something to do and will be back later."
It was almost noon, and Zhang, who was in charge of the kitchen logistics, turned to Lin Yinan and asked, "Yinan, shall we slaughter this pig for lunch?"
Upon hearing this, Yun Ming unconsciously licked his slightly chapped lips, his eyes flickered, and he said in a slightly coquettish tone, "Third Sister-in-law, I want to eat meat for lunch!"
"Eat!" Lin Yinan waved his hand. "Aunt Li, have someone call the best pig butcher in the village to come back and help us. We'll eat the biggest pig for lunch; consider it our first meal here."
"Auntie, go to the storeroom and get some more rice. Let everyone come and eat together later."
Zhang nodded in agreement, "Yes! I'll go right away."
Aunt Li and the two women put down their work and went in different directions to find someone to come back and slaughter the pig, while Yunyan and the others quickly gathered firewood and started a fire.
After everyone had left, Lin Yinan looked at the two boys covered in mud and asked with a hint of reproach, "Why are you covered in mud? Are you hurt?"
Yun Ming and Yun Kang exchanged a glance and shook their heads.
Yunming grinned and said, "Don't worry, Third Sister-in-law, we're not hurt. We just fell into a mud pit while chasing the wild boar. Yun Kang is so stupid. I already told him there was a mud pit, but he still jumped in."
Yun Kang scratched his head sheepishly. Of all the years he had lived, he felt that today was the happiest day. Running freely in the mountains and forests, working together with everyone to catch wild boars, this joy of reaping rewards through hard work was something he had never experienced before.
Yunyan brought two buckets of hot water from the kitchen. "The water's boiled. You two hurry back and wash up and change your clothes."
The two hurriedly ran forward to fetch water, and Yunyan forgot to remind them, "After you're done washing, take care of your dirty clothes first, and then return the bucket."
"Okay, big sister," Yun Kang said with a grin.
The men who were called back used all their skills. Seven or eight men slaughtered the largest pig in less than half an hour, separated the meat and bones, put the internal organs in a separate basin, and even scrubbed the large intestine clean with wood ash.
Lin Yinan moved a small stool and sat on the veranda to watch. She remembered reading time-travel novels before, where the female protagonists all made their fortunes by selling offal and pig intestines. They said that people in ancient times didn't know that intestines were edible, which was complete nonsense.
The men are now handling the matter, even washing and hanging up the pig's gallbladder to be used as medicine by doctors Lü and Lin.
If it weren't for the fact that wild boar skin is too thick to remove the hair, they wouldn't have been willing to skin it off.
The remaining pigs were slaughtered, washed, drained, salted, and placed in a large vat. They were then moved to a cooler warehouse for storage, to be eaten slowly.
Zhang put the chopped bones into several large pots to cook bone porridge. When the porridge was thick and almost ready, she added the chopped cauliflower.
Two large baskets of arrowhead were peeled and chopped into small pieces, then stir-fried with pork. When the dish was almost cooked, wild scallions were sprinkled in, and the whole county town was immediately filled with a fragrant aroma.
People returning from work gathered around the makeshift stove shed, peering inside.
By the time the food was ready, it was already past noon. To speed things up, Zhang set up three separate windows for serving the food. Everyone lined up conscientiously, taking their own bowls. One bowl was for bone and wild vegetable porridge, and the other was for stir-fried pork with arrowhead and wild scallions.
There were some tables and chairs in the courtyard, but there weren't enough for everyone. Some people squatted down in the corner to eat their food, while the guards and servants of the Yun family gathered in twos and threes to enjoy their meal.
The Yun brothers joined in, forgetting their rudeness, and felt that none of the exquisite meals they had eaten at the Yun residence could compare to this one.
Lin Yinan sat at a table with Old Mrs. Zhao, Li Shulan, the women and children of the Yun family, while Lin Zhiyan and Yun Fangyi obediently ate with spoons.
Looking outside and not seeing the Yun brothers return, Lin Yinan asked Yun's mother, "Mother, why haven't Yun Mo and Second Brother come back yet?"
Yunmu placed a piece of meat from each of their bowls into Lin Yinan's and Lu Yashuang's bowls, and said with a smile, "The guards just came back and said they went quite far and won't be back until tonight."
"Anan, eat more." Li Shulan put a big meat bone from her bowl into Lin Yinan's bowl.
"Mom, that's enough, you eat, I'm almost full." Lin Yinan quickly reached out to stop her.
Li Shulan coaxed her, "Be good, just eat this piece."
The open space outside the county government office.
Wu Xingwang had his guards set up a table and found some stools for the family to sit on. They sat around the table and ate their meal.
The family of five thoroughly enjoyed the meal, and Wu Xingwang let out a satisfied burp, saying, "The food from the government is still the best!"
His wife, Zhao, rolled her eyes at him and bluntly exposed his lie, "It's because you don't have to pay anything, isn't it!"
"You..." Wu Xingwang was speechless. His wife was good in every way, except that she knew him too well.
Madam Qian covered her mouth and chuckled, "Master, why don't my wife and I go find some work to do? Otherwise, we'll have to cook for ourselves tomorrow."
"What can you two do? Can you farm?" Wu Xingwang knew that his wives and concubines were used to a life of luxury.
Zhao's temper flared up immediately. "If we don't find work, what will happen to our house? There are so many people in the family. Are we just going to sit here and eat our savings?"
Madam Qian patted Madam Zhao and glanced at Wu Xingwang with dissatisfaction. "Look at what you're saying, sir. It's as if my sister and I can only eat. Tomorrow I'll ask Madam Yun. My sister and I can certainly do easy chores like sewing and mending."
Wu Xingwang nodded, glanced at Wu Yao who was silent with her eyes down, and said, "You two take Yao'er with you."
Seeing that Zhao's expression had softened, Wu Xingwang continued, "I'm leaving tomorrow, so don't worry too much about the family business. We don't need that many mules; we can sell some to the Yun family to save them the trouble of taking care of them."
“I will take some people out with me, and the rest of them will help build houses. We will pay for our own house, and we want it to be bigger and made with better materials.”
