He swayed, his feet unsteady, and reached up to touch the warm liquid running down his face. When he opened his hand, he saw that his palm was covered in blood.
"No matter what I do, you're never satisfied, so you might as well just kill me."
Yu Shicheng's nonchalant attitude only enraged his father, who flew into a rage.
His face turned from white to green, veins throbbed on his temples, and anger surged within him.
"I've never bothered you with your antics at night, but now you're causing trouble day and night. Go look in the mirror, do you even look human?"
Yu Shicheng chuckled coldly twice, "The Yu family is already the number one in the South. As long as you give the order, who would dare to disobey?"
He's come to terms with it. People should enjoy life to the fullest when they're young. If there's anything to do, his subordinates can do it. Otherwise, what's the point of supporting them?
Seeing his stubbornness, Yu's father picked up the inkstone on the table with trembling hands, intending to smash it on him. But seeing the dried blood on his head and face, he misjudged and hit him instead.
"Get out! Go back and reflect on your actions!"
Yu Shicheng shook off the ink from his clothes and staggered out of the study.
The steward and his servants stood guard outside the study. Just as he was about to reach out to help him, Yu Shicheng pushed him away.
"You dog of a servant, get out!" Yu Shicheng finally found a place to vent his anger after being humiliated in the study.
The butler sheepishly withdrew his hand and stood there meekly.
Only after he had walked far away did he go to the study, knock on the door, and for a long time there was no response from inside.
After listening intently to the door for a while, the butler sensed something was wrong. He pushed open the study door and saw Mr. Yu slumped in a chair, his hand clutching his chest, unconscious.
"Master, what's wrong?" the butler rushed forward and called out.
After calling for a long time without getting a response, Yu's father anxiously said to the servants, "Quick! Go and fetch a doctor!"
Mr. Yu was so angry that he fell ill. Fortunately, the doctor arrived in time, took his pulse, and administered acupuncture. Mr. Yu gradually recovered.
"Lord Yu's internal organs are dysfunctional, his qi and blood are imbalanced, and he has stagnation in his heart, resulting in symptoms of wind, fire, phlegm, blood stasis, and qi deficiency. He urgently needs to calm down and recuperate, and must not be subjected to any further stimulation," the doctor said truthfully.
Mrs. Yu nodded repeatedly and then asked carefully about the precautions for the meal. Yu Xunmei stood obediently to the side and listened attentively.
"Doctor, how long will it take for your father to wake up?" Yu Xunmei asked the doctor quietly, her eyes filled with worry.
The doctor did not specify when the person would wake up, but vaguely said, "He has been overworked and stressed recently, so more rest will be good for his recovery."
After the doctor wrote out the prescription, Madam Yu asked her personal maid to accompany the doctor to get the medicine.
"Mother, don't worry too much. The doctor said Father will wake up once he's had enough sleep," Yu Xunmei said, helping Madam Yu sit down.
Madam Yu patted her hand and sighed, "Your brother has always been obedient and sensible, but lately he seems like a different person. It's a good thing you're here, otherwise I wouldn't know what to do."
She covered her face and cried. She used to worry about her daughter, but now that her daughter has become better, her son is disobedient.
"Mom, don't worry, Dad will get better. You stay here and watch over him. I'll go to the kitchen and have them prepare some light food for him."
Mr. Yu suddenly collapsed, which startled Mrs. Yu. After recovering, she was a little tired, but she nodded and said, "Go ahead."
Yu Xunmei went to the kitchen and asked the cook to cook some porridge. Then she stir-fried a vegetarian dish with lard and took it to Madam Yu's courtyard. Yu's father had just woken up and was taking his medicine.
"Dad, take your medicine and then have some food." She obediently brought the food to her father.
Mr. Yu was too weak to speak. With Mrs. Yu's help, he ate half a bowl of porridge and went back to sleep.
After a few days of rest, Mr. Yu's condition improved slightly.
Yu Xunmei specially took a ginseng root that was over a hundred years old from the warehouse, and then went to the kitchen to have the cook slaughter an old hen to make soup.
Just as she brought the soup in, the housekeeper and others were reporting on this year's harvest.
His eyes flickered several times after he saw Yu Xunmei enter.
"Master, the Zhong and Ye families have reported that this year's harvest is reduced and they both want to sell us less grain. It turns out that the eldest young master agreed. Thanks to the young lady, we not only managed to collect 30% more grain, but also lowered the price by more than 10% compared to previous years."
"The Zhong family is willing too?" Mr. Yu raised his eyelids and glanced at the butler.
The housekeeper's heart skipped a beat, but he readily agreed, "The Zhong family has no complaints. The eldest young lady said that if they dare to reduce production, she will sell them half the amount of salt next year."
Yu Xunmei gently put down the food box in her hand and said with a smile, "Father, my brother is too sentimental. That Zhong is no good at all. He didn't want to marry his daughter before, and now he's using the excuse of reduced grain production. He's done it again and again. I'm afraid he won't even respect the Yu family in the future."
Mr. Yu nodded. "That makes sense. If there's one, there will be two. Is the Zhong family trying to rebel against the Yu family?"
"Father, my brother is like this now. What will you and Mother do if I marry into Cangwu County in the future?" Yu Xunmei pouted and complained in a spoiled manner.
After this illness, Yu's father felt that some things needed to be rearranged.
He glared at his daughter, who had suddenly become so sensible, and pretended to scold her, "Nonsense! Don't girls have any shame? You're already making a fuss about things that aren't settled yet."
Yu Xunmei lowered her eyes, concealing the sarcasm in them, and brought the soup to her father.
"Dad, drink the soup. I found a century-old ginseng in the storeroom and made this soup for you. You'll get better soon after you drink it."
Mr. Yu took the bowl; the temperature was just right. He drank three bowls in a row, and immediately felt a warm feeling in his heart.
After serving her father the medicine, Yu Xunmei took the empty bowl and went out.
Only after the door closed and the footsteps faded away did Mr. Yu look at the butler beside him.
"Butler, what do you think about entrusting the young master's important matters to the young lady?"
A slight look of surprise flashed across the butler's face. "Have you thought this through, sir?"
"Please speak freely."
The steward then calmed himself down and said, "After what happened with the Zhong family, this old servant has realized that Miss's methods and schemes are no less than those of men."
After pondering for a moment, Yu's father said, "In the future, if there is any movement from Miss, you should report it directly. Hand over all the matters that the eldest young master is currently handling to Miss. As for who to introduce, you should give her some pointers."
"Also, write a letter for me to Cangwu County, stating that the Yu family is willing to form a marriage alliance with them."
"Does the master still intend to marry the eldest daughter off to him?" The butler asked, somewhat taken aback.
Mr. Yu said, “No, the one marrying into the family is not the eldest daughter, but a concubine’s daughter who has just come of age. The Yu family is very sincere.”
They chatted for another half hour before Mr. Yu, exhausted, finally went to sleep.
After the butler covered him with a blanket, he left his room.
Stepping out of the courtyard, I immediately saw Yu Xunmei standing under a tree, fanning herself.
"Congratulations, Miss, on achieving your wish," the butler said, bowing respectfully.
Yu Xunmei smiled faintly, "Thank you for your kind words, butler. Don't worry, I will never forget what I promised you."
