Chapter 290 is a money-loser.

Looking at the luxurious furnishings in her daughter's room, Yu Suqin's eyes darted around, finally settling on Yu Qiutao's dressing table.

She strode forward, picked up the gold flower ornament from the table and stuffed it into her bosom. She wanted to open Yu Qiutao's dressing case, but Yu Qiutao pressed her down.

"Mother, these things were all given to me by the old lady. You can't take them. If the old lady asks about them, I won't be able to explain it to her," Yu Qiutao said hurriedly.

Yu Suqin curled her lips dismissively, her eyes immediately catching sight of a pair of jade hooks hanging on the curtain; these things were worth quite a bit of money.

She stepped forward and yanked hard, causing the curtain to fall apart.

Seeing that she was about to take a beautifully patterned vase from inside the house, Yu Qiutao was so angry that her heart, liver, spleen, and lungs ached. She hurriedly stepped forward and hugged the vase tightly, refusing to let go.

"Mother, you can't take this. Large items are all recorded in the management book."

Yu Suqin didn't care about any of that. These days, debt collectors came to her door every day, and even the only pot in her house was taken away.

Seeing her daughter clinging to it tightly, Yu Suqin became even more convinced that the item was valuable. She forcefully pushed Yu Qiutao away, wrapped the vase in her clothes, and ran out the door.

"Ah!" A sharp pain shot through her abdomen, and Yu Qiutao could not bear it and could only groan.

The maid rushed into the room and saw Yu Qiutao clutching her stomach and sitting on the ground.

When Yu Xunmei arrived, the midwife had already gone in to deliver the baby.

After listening to the maid's account, Yu Xun raised an eyebrow, her face showing a hint of anger. "You shallow-minded thing, go tell the steward who let this person in. Tie them up and give them a beating. If anything happens to Aunt Tao's belly, make him pay with his life."

"Tell him to keep a close eye on his subordinates. Not just any Tom, Dick, or Harry can come into the Yu residence."

The maidservant respectfully replied, "Yes, I will go and tell the steward right away."

Inside the room, Yu Qiutao's cries of pain grew louder and louder, and basins of bloody water were brought out one after another. Yu Xunmei took a few steps back and covered her nose with a handkerchief in disgust.

Madam Yu, supported by her maid, rushed over. She gave Yu Xunmei, who was standing under the eaves, a deep, unfriendly look before stepping into the house.

A moment later, Madam Yu came out.

She slowly walked towards Yu Xunmei, making no attempt to hide the fierceness and fleeting murderous intent flashing in her eyes.

"If anything happens to Aunt Tao's child, I will definitely not let you off the hook!"

Yu Xunmei didn't miss the murderous intent in her eyes. "Are you going to kill me?"

"Don't think I wouldn't dare!" Madam Yu suddenly lost control, speaking as if she were going crazy. "I never expected you to be so vicious. If it weren't for you stirring up trouble, would this family have become like this?"

"You'd better find out the whole story before you start talking tough to me. I'm not so heartless as to harm an unborn child."

As she spoke, a smile played on her beautiful face, but it didn't reach her eyes.

Now that the matter was out in the open, Madam Yu no longer tried to hide anything. "And what about your father? Why were you making him soup every now and then these past few days?"

"I didn't poison her." Yu Xunmei looked at her with innocent big eyes, as if to say, "What can you do to me if I have no evidence?"

“Your father’s health deteriorated day by day after drinking your soup.” Madam Yu was not giving up. She was convinced that the mastermind behind all of this was her good daughter, Yu Xunmei.

Yu Xunmei turned her head away, too lazy to argue with her, and the maids around her wisely kept their distance.

Madam Yu seemed to have found an outlet for her emotions, and continued to ramble on, "If you had obediently followed your father's arrangements and married into Cangwu County, none of this would have happened."

These words completely enraged Yu Xunmei. "You mean, if I get married, all of you will be happy, but if I don't, all the unhappiness is my fault? I don't want to get married, so why are you forcing me!"

What's wrong with a woman getting married?

Yu Xunmei looked at her mother, who claimed to love her, and realized how hypocritical she was!

She held back for a long time, but finally blurted out the hurtful words, "Do you know that Yu Shida is Father's mistress?"

"How could this be?" Madam Yu's pupils dilated, her eyes filled with disbelief.

Yu Xunmei felt a lump in her throat. "Everyone outside knows, but you're the only one kept in the dark. According to Father's plan, the eldest brother will manage the household affairs, while Yu Shida will manage the external affairs. This way, the Yu family can maintain its prosperity forever. If you don't believe me, go back and ask Father."

Madam Yu's thoughts were in turmoil, and she had no desire to stay any longer. She stumbled away, supported by her maid.

Yu Xunmei looked at her indifferently, no longer harboring any illusions about this mother.

She abandoned her lover for the sake of her family's interests and married her father; now she's about to abandon her own daughter. When it comes to family interests, there's nothing she can't give up.

She can make the same choices as them!

Listening to Yu Qiutao's continuous cries of pain coming from inside, Yu Xunmei listlessly tugged at the green plants in the flower bed.

The maid behind her frowned. The flowers that had just sprouted leaves after the winter were about to be plucked bald by her, and she spoke up to stop her.

Fan Yuejia, having received the message, walked through the hanging flowers.

Yu Xunmei glanced at her sideways, "What are you doing here?"

"Oh, Aunt Tao is giving birth to her husband's child. As the mistress of the house, I must come and see. But you, Miss, are not a proper unmarried woman. It is not appropriate for you to come to this bloody and filthy place."

Fan Yuejia covered her mouth with a handkerchief and chuckled, "I'll take care of things here, Miss, you should go and rest first!"

After saying that, she went into the inner room without waiting for Yu Xunmei to speak.

Yu Xunmei looked up at her retreating figure as she disappeared through the door, her sharp eyes filled with ruthlessness and coldness.
