Chapter 349 The Hu People

Yun Mo's voice was unusually cold and chilling, as if it were being squeezed out from between his teeth.

He would never forget that voice until his death. A few years ago, he led Yun Yi and Yun Er to infiltrate enemy territory to gather intelligence, and the enemy general said just that.

Yun Shiyi, Yun Ming, and many other guards drew their swords and surrounded Hong Mu and his two companions.

“Let’s talk this out, we’re not bad people!” Hong Mu raised his hands, and his originally broken Mandarin suddenly became fluent in his haste.

"Why are you here?" Yun Mo asked.

Hong Mu opened his mouth, wanting to defend himself, but unfortunately, his knowledge of Chinese was limited to simple everyday sentences. He was sweating profusely with anxiety.

Seeing that he couldn't give a coherent explanation, Yun Mo pressed down hard on the sword in his hand, and the sharp blade cut a bloody gash on Hong Mu's neck.

For a moment, the atmosphere became tense.

"My lord, spare his life!"

Guo Xun came out of the kitchen and, seeing this, hurriedly lifted his robes and ran over.

He hurriedly bowed to Yun Mo, "My lord, they are different from those barbarian tribes in the north who commit massacres."

Yun Mo stared at Guo Xun, his grip still tight. "Who are you?"

"My name is Guo Xun, a traveling physician who roams the countryside," Guo Xun said, neither humble nor arrogant.

When Hong Mu saw Guo Xun speaking up for them, he hurriedly gestured with his hands and mumbled something.

Guo Xun told him to calm down, and then said to Yun Mo, "My lord, Hong Mu and his people have lived in seclusion in the mountains for generations. This time, due to the great chaos in the north, all the young people in the clan were captured. They had no choice but to move south as a whole clan in order to find a way to survive."

Yunmo was skeptical, for the Hu people were the most untrustworthy.

What is their purpose in coming here?

Lin Yinan said, "Dr. Guo paid them to come here to learn rice cultivation methods."

Hong Mu wanted to nod, but with a knife still pressed against his neck, he frantically waved his hands and said, "They're not bad people! I, we're here to plant rice."

"Doctor Guo is in cahoots with them?" Yun Mo narrowed his eyes, his brows furrowed with anger.

Guo Xun explained again, "We met on our way south."

"How many of them are there?" The Hu people were extremely cunning, and Yun Mo dared not relax for a moment.

"There were only a little over three hundred people, including the elderly, women, and children. When we arrived in the south, only a little over one hundred remained," Guo Xun said.

Then Yun Mo inquired about the village where Hong Mu and the others were located. Yun Shiyi then led several guards down the mountain under the cover of night to verify the information Guo Xun and the others had provided.

After joining the Dark Guard Camp, he remained in the Yun Mansion in Shangjing, responsible for the safety of the entire mansion.

It was his fault for not recognizing Hongmu as a member of the Hu ethnic group; he must eliminate this potential threat as soon as possible.

Hong Mu and the others were locked in the neighboring courtyard by the guards, and they could not come out until Yun Shiyi returned.

Guo Xun was relieved to see that Yun Mo had not harmed Hong Mu and the others.

Halfway through their meal, Lin Yinan and Yun Mo were interrupted by Chen Shi reporting that Lin Shuo had woken up.

The two put down their bowls and went straight to Lin Shuo's room.

Perhaps because he had just woken up, Lin Shuo was still a little dazed.

"Anan, you're here!"

Perhaps because he had been asleep for too long, Lin Shuo's throat was extremely dry when he spoke, so Chen Shi quickly poured him a glass of water and fed it to him.

Lin Shuo looked around, and when he saw Yun Mo, his eyes lit up. "Yun Mo is here too! Am I dreaming?"

"Second Uncle, you're not dreaming. Yun Mo and I have come to see you." Lin Yinan stepped forward, took his hand, and said softly.

"It feels like a dream, I feel like everything around me is moving."

Lin Shuo's face showed a pained expression; he felt a terrible headache.

"Second Uncle, what's wrong?"

"Headache!" Lin Shuo moved his head from side to side, feeling even more dizzy.

She wanted to reach out and touch the injury on her head, but Lin Yinan stopped her.

Just then, Chen Shi had already invited Doctor Guo Xun over.

Lin Yinan quickly stood up and made way, "Dr. Guo, please take a look at my second uncle. He says he has a terrible headache."

Guo Xun took his hand to check his pulse, then took out silver needles and quickly pricked Lin Shuo's head a few times. Lin Shuo gradually calmed down and then slowly closed his eyelids.

"Dr. Guo, how is my second uncle?"

"It's alright. I gave him a calming acupuncture. He just woke up and his consciousness hasn't fully returned yet. He'll be fully awake after a nap."

Guo Xun put away the needles and picked out a dose of medicine. "Break this medicine and give it to him. It will help relieve his headache."

"Thank you so much, Dr. Guo!" Lin Yinan accepted the medicine and expressed her sincere gratitude.

"No need for formalities. I will come back to give him the last acupuncture treatment after he wakes up tomorrow, and he will be fully recovered."

After Guo Xun finished speaking, he slung his medicine box over his shoulder and went out.

Qianxia took the medicine and went to brew it. Lin Yinan pulled up a chair and sat with Yun Mo by the bedside to watch over Lin Shuo.

Yun Mo reached out and pulled her close, letting her lean on his broad shoulders.

"These people here are so disobedient, do you want me to teach them a lesson for you?"

Lin Yinan said, "No need. The most important thing right now is to plant the seedlings. We just don't have enough manpower. We're planning to send someone to Huaizhou City to buy some people. Now that you're here, we can send someone over."

“Huaizhou City isn’t big. I’ll send a message to Yun Si and have them buy some from Nanzhou Prefecture.”

The couple chatted on and on about Chi'an Construction, while Qianxia brought out the medicine after it had been brewed and cooled.

However, Lin Shuo was fast asleep after being pricked by Guo Xun's needles, making it difficult to administer medicine.

"Let me do it."

Lin Yinan stepped forward and helped Lin Shuo up. Yun Mo took the medicine bowl, skillfully pried open Lin Shuo's jaw, and poured the entire bowl of medicine down his throat.

Qianxia and Lin Yinan were dumbfounded.

"Won't my second uncle choke?" Lin Yinan was a little worried about this rough way of administering the medicine.
