Qianxia supported Yun Shijiu's arm, and Yun Shijiu seemed to be riding the clouds as she rushed towards Lin Yinan.
Lin Yinan bent down and picked her up in her arms. "Nineteen, what good things did you bring back for your mother today?"
Ever since she picked a wildflower and received praise from Lin Yinan, Yun Shijiu has brought back something every time she goes out, such as sour wild fruit, a leaf, or even a blade of grass.
Yun Shijiu held up the green plant in her hand and presented it to Lin Yinan.
Lin Yinan took it and examined it carefully. The leaves looked very much like the grass jelly she had eaten in her previous life.
However, the leaf was squeezed so tightly by Yun Shijiu that it was somewhat crushed, so she brought it close to her nose and smelled it.
Hmm, it tastes very similar!
"Where did you pick this?" she asked Qianxia.
Qianxia's heart tightened, and she immediately took out a handkerchief to wipe Yun Shijiu's hands. "Is it poisoned?"
Fearing she might misunderstand, Lin Yinan quickly explained, "No, this plant might be edible."
"Edible?" Qianxia's voice unconsciously rose a few decibels, her eyes shining brightly. She loved to study anything edible.
"I'm not sure if it's the kind I know; this piece is unrecognizable as it was originally."
“Madam, I know where it is, I’ll take you there!” Qianwu said from behind. Yun Jun, who was tired from playing, had already fallen asleep in her arms.
Yun Shijiu rubbed her eyes sleepily, and Qianxia picked her up. "I'll take them both back to sleep. You two go and come back quickly."
Before leaving, Qianwu grabbed a basket. She knew that if the lady said this stuff was edible, it was probably edible.
She led Lin Yinan to a river valley slope behind the villagers' houses. There was a small pond nearby, surrounded by lush wild grass.
“Madam, that thing was picked on the slope above the pool. Nineteen has sharp eyes and spotted it at first glance. I picked it for her,” Qianxia said proudly.
Lin Yinan looked in the direction she was pointing and saw a large patch of jelly grass.
Looking around at the terrain, it's true that this place is indeed very suitable for the growth of grass jelly.
Grass jelly, also known as grass jelly or grass jelly, is a summer food that helps to clear heat and relieve summer heat.
Fresh grass can be used to make a gelatinous, dark green jelly, while dried grass can be boiled to make a black jelly.
Seeing that she didn't speak, Qianwu asked softly, "Madam, is this edible?"
“It’s edible! Let’s go, let’s pick some to take back,” Lin Yinan affirmed.
"Madam, please stand here and don't move. Let me pick it."
Upon hearing that she could eat it, Qianwu took the lead and slowly walked down the slope, pinching off the tender top of the grass jelly.
"Qianwu, that's not how you pick them."
Lin Yinan walked down, drew his sword from his waist, grabbed a handful of jelly grass, and cut it off at the root.
"This thing can even have its old roots and leaves eaten?"
Qianwu's eyes widened; this joke looked like it was impossible to digest.
"We need to cut the grass jelly and boil it to make a broth, but we don't eat the leaves or the stems."
Lin Yinan rolled her eyes at her, then swung her sword and cut off another large handful.
Realizing what had happened, Qianwu quickly drew her sword and, imitating Lin Yinan, deftly cut down a large handful of jelly grass.
After cutting a full basket, Qianwu was still unwilling to stop. She chopped another large bundle, and only when she was sure she really couldn't carry it all did she reluctantly go back.
After putting the two children to sleep, Qianxia moved a low stool to the doorway and waited for them to come back.
Upon seeing the two figures in the distance, she quickly ran forward to take the basket from Lin Yinan and glared at Qianwu behind her.
"Qianwu, why did you cut so much? You've made the young lady suffer."
She knew without even thinking that Qianwu must have been greedy to cut so much.
Qianwu didn't dare to argue with her, and just kept smiling foolishly.
"Young lady, how should this be eaten?"
Lin Yinan smiled slightly, “Remove the withered leaves and weeds, wash them clean, put them in a large pot, add water and boil them. Bring them to a boil over high heat, stirring constantly until the leaves are mashed and dissolved.”
"And then?" Qianwu asked impatiently, sounding more like she was brewing herbal soup.
Qianxia couldn't help but give her a flick on the forehead, "Asking so many questions as if you know how to do it, hurry up and pick them, wash them clean, and put them in the pot to cook."
Qianwu covered her head, pouted, and went inside to fetch a stool, while Qianxia closed the bucket to fetch water.
The three of them sat under the eaves picking and washing grass jelly.
Just as they were finishing picking and washing, Guo Xun, who had gone to dig for medicinal herbs, returned. He glanced inside the enclosure as he passed by.
"Huh? Why are you picking so many fairy jelly?"
He carried his medicine basket up the mountain in two steps, grabbed a handful of washed grass jelly and smelled it.
Lin Yinan smiled faintly, a slight upturn to her lips.
"We call this 'liangfen grass,' and we use it to make a delicious dish. We'll let Doctor Guo try it later."
Guo Xun paused for a moment, then stroked his beard and said, "This 'immortal jelly' is sweet and cold in nature. It is very effective in clearing heat and detoxifying, and relieving summer heat when used to make dishes in the summer."
"Can this grass jelly be used as medicine?" Qianwu asked curiously.
Guo Xun said, "The jelly grass you mentioned can also be used to treat diarrhea and dysentery. It can also be used to treat toothache caused by internal heat. I happen to have some internal heat these past two days."
"Dr. Guo, please have a seat!"
While they were talking, the three of them had finished picking and washing all the grass jelly, and the Chika sisters took it to the kitchen to cook.
Lin Yinan went back into the room and poured Guo Xun a cup of tea. "Dr. Guo, how is Dajiang's leg? Can he still stand up?"
"The fracture has been set. It takes a hundred days to recover from a broken bone, and he won't be able to walk for at least six months." He glanced at Lin Yinan, took a sip of water, and continued, "Don't worry, with me here, he won't be crippled."
