The further you go, the more water the stream flows.
After traveling for nearly half an hour, the group finally arrived at a valley deep in the forest.
The valley is surrounded by mountains on all sides and dense forests all around.
Upon entering the valley, a cool mountain breeze greeted us, dispelling the summer heat and leaving us feeling refreshed.
Lin Yinan stopped and listened carefully. Besides the chirping of birds and cicadas, she could also hear the sound of flowing water.
She arrived at a place that appeared to be covered by weeds, raised her sword, and began hacking wildly at the weeds.
When she stopped, everyone finally saw that the clear stream had reappeared in front of them where she had split the stream.
"The water here hasn't stopped flowing!" Lin Shuo exclaimed with joy, washing his hands and scooping up water to put in his mouth.
Su Kaifa bent down, scooped up a handful of water, and took a sip. "This water is sweet and cool. It must be spring water flowing from underground. I just wonder where the spring is?"
After finishing his water and getting up, Liang Wen heard that there was a spring. Without saying a word, he picked up the hoe that Lin Yiheng had brought and used it to clear away the weeds along the opening that Lin Yinan had made.
The others rushed to help.
Seeing Lin Yinan resting on a large rock, Su Kaifa walked over and sat on a short piece of wood.
“Lord Lin, as long as we find the spring and have people dig deeper and wider this stream, the irrigation of the rice paddies in the city will no longer be a problem.”
Lin Yinan nodded slightly. "What I'm worried about now is the situation outside the city and in the other villages below."
Many crops outside the city are planted on slopes, which makes irrigation more difficult.
The stream was not far from the spring when Lin Yiheng, while cutting water plants, lost his footing and fell into the water, which instantly submerged his head.
"Ah Heng!" Lin Shuo exclaimed, "Quick, pull him up!"
Lin Yiheng had surfaced, but the water was deep and he had no foothold. The water was over his head, and his head felt like it was filled with glue. He tried to call for help, but instead swallowed several mouthfuls of icy water. His situation was extremely critical.
Pan Qingfeng broke off a tree branch, and he and Liang Wen extended the branch toward Lin Yiheng.
Lin Yiheng grew up in the north and was a terrible swimmer. The more he struggled, the more panicked he became, and the deeper he sank. The more he struggled, the further he drifted from the shore. His hands were tangled in the surrounding water plants, and for a moment he couldn't even grab the branches that Liang Wen and the others were extending.
At this critical moment, everyone saw Lin Yinan jump into the water with a "plop".
She paddled around Lin Yiheng, came up behind him, grabbed his hair bun with one hand, and pulled him to the shore.
As soon as they got close to the shore, the group quickly and hurriedly dragged Lin Yiheng ashore.
"Ah Heng, how do you feel?" Lin Shuo was terrified when he saw him fall into the water.
Lin Yiheng, who had drunk a lot of water, waved his hand at him and said, "Second Uncle, I'm fine."
He sat on the ground, his face ashen with fear, and vomited up the water he had drunk.
"Then sit down and rest for a while."
Lin Yinan was also pulled up by everyone.
Looking at Lin Yinan walking towards him, he belatedly touched his scalp, which had been pulled painfully.
Lin Yiheng said weakly, "Anan, why did you pull my hair when you went into the water to pull me out?"
"If I don't pull your hair, do you expect me to drag you down with me?" Lin Yinan rolled her eyes at him, annoyed.
Lin Yiheng looked embarrassed as he saw his sister, who was soaking wet. He quickly took off his outer shirt, wrung it out, and draped it over her shoulders.
Although Lin Yinan was dressed in all black and nothing could be seen, it wasn't good for her to have water clinging to her body.
Lin Yinan didn't refuse, put it on and buttoned it up, covering her curvaceous figure.
Seeing that the brother and sister were alright, everyone turned around and continued with their work.
Having learned from Lin Yiheng's experience, they dared not move forward rashly. They first used sticks to probe the surroundings before cutting the grass.
Fifteen minutes later, the entire pool was revealed.
"Now I finally know why this place is called Dragon Pool," Liang Wen said with a laugh, leaning on his hoe.
Lin Yinan walked around the pool, which was estimated to be about thirty square meters in size. The pool was surrounded by wild algae, and the water was clear and green, but the bottom could not be seen at a glance.
Su Kaifa stroked his chin, having already calculated the time and number of people needed to repair the canal based on his observations on the way there.
He said confidently, "The green water is deep and the pool is full of water. If we dig the stream a little deeper, we won't have to worry about running out of water."
"Master Su, how long do you think it would take to build this irrigation canal?" Lin Shuo asked, worried that his ambitions were too long and the rice seedlings in the fields wouldn't be able to wait.
"We'll organize people to dig first thing tomorrow morning. We'll dig in groups and sections, and the water will be flowing in one day."
"That would be great."
It took them quite a while to climb the mountain, and by then the light around the valley was gradually dimming.
Lin Yinan guessed it was getting late, "It's getting late, let's go back first."
She didn't tell the others, afraid they would be frightened, that they were in the deep mountains and forests, and that wild animals might roam at night.
After everyone packed up their tools, Lin Shuo and Liang Wen were reluctant to part with the grass they had cut.
"It would be great to take it back to feed the livestock."
They pulled up a few chicken manure vines, and together they bundled the weeds into four bunches, which Liang Wen and Pan Qingfeng carried on their shoulders.
Before they had even left the forest, it had become completely dark.
Lin Shuo took out a tinderbox from his pocket and followed the way they had come to prevent everyone from getting lost in the forest.
Lin Yinan was responsible for covering the rear, and Lin Yiheng would look back at her from time to time, afraid that she would fall behind.
Fifteen minutes after leaving the pool, the further they walked, the quieter the surroundings became; even the chirping of insects and birds could no longer be heard. Gradually, Lin Yinan sensed that something was wrong.
Her heart grew increasingly uneasy!
So he simply stopped and focused his inner strength to listen carefully.
