"What good stuff did you bring me?"
Lin Yinan gestured for a servant to bring it over to him to see, "I prepared all of this myself, with wine and pastries, I'm sure you'll like it."
Master Dao opened the box, pinched a piece of cloud cake and put it in his mouth. "Soft, sticky and sweet, it really suits my taste. Is the wine newly brewed this year?"
After finishing his meal, he handed the box to Su Kunliang, saying, "You should try it too, it tastes good."
Su Kunliang ate a piece as well, then waved his hand. He was always restrained and didn't have much of a pursuit when it came to food.
"Yes, it's a new wine released this year."
"Too sweet, it doesn't taste as good as it used to." Master Dao pouted in disdain.
Lin Yinan gently advised him, "The alcohol content is higher in previous years. You are older, and drinking it is not good for your health."
"Okay, I'll listen to you. I'll drink this year's wine. You're so busy all year round, you need to rest more."
Master Dao glanced at her and nodded almost imperceptibly.
Lin Yinan pretended not to know and turned to look at Zhou Linzhao's study where he usually worked.
"Where is Master Zhou?"
"That fool was busy with his books all day long, but now he has probably finally seen the light and has gone out with the other teachers."
The three fell into a brief silence, occasionally hearing Qianwu and Yun Shijiu talking in the classroom.
Su Kunliang took a sip of tea and looked at Lin Yinan, saying, "Yesterday I heard from the clan members that there was an epidemic in Cangwu County. I wanted to go and find you this morning, but you weren't here. I wonder if this is true?"
"It's true. Steward Deng himself told Liu Ji that if you want to go back to visit your relatives, it's best not to go yet."
Upon hearing this, Su Kunliang's heart skipped a beat, wondering if Ru'er had informed her grandfather.
"Does Anan have a way to send a letter over there?" He thought it would be safer to write a letter to his father himself.
Lin Yinan shook her head, "No, I don't plan to send anyone there in the near future."
Su Kunliang was somewhat disappointed.
Master Dao was the most insightful. He patted his old friend on the shoulder and comforted him, saying, "There's nothing we can do about it. If someone gets infected with the plague, it can be fatal."
Thinking that his daughter was with the Deng family, and that the Deng family wouldn't just sit idly by, but would at least inform the Su family, his in-laws, he stopped insisting on writing back.
"I wonder if the plague will spread to the south?" Su Kunliang then became worried about this.
Master Dao held the wine bottle, and soon the bottle was empty. He smacked his lips and said meaningfully, "It's hard to say."
Although the wine was newly brewed this year, it tasted sweet but still had a strong aftertaste.
Seeing that the Master had drunk a pound of wine in just a few gulps, Lin Yinan ordered the servants to take the rest of the wine away and stop him from drinking any more.
"It's okay, I'm not drunk."
"Even if you're not drunk, you can't drink anymore." Lin Yinan said sternly, firmly forbidding him from drinking any more.
Master Dao did not argue with her. He leaned back in his chair, enjoying the warm sunshine, and began to snore softly. The servants, ever perceptive, brought a blanket to cover him.
Lin Yinan quietly got up, found Qianwu in the classroom, and the two of them led Yun Shijiu out of the school.
As the footsteps faded into the distance, Master Dao squinted at Su Kunliang and said jokingly, "As the saying goes, a virtuous husband and a good wife bring prosperity to the family!"
Su Kunliang stared at him with wide eyes, really wanting to throw the tea in his face!
After leaving the school, Lin Yinan encountered the Lin brothers, who were returning from gathering firewood, on his way back.
Lin Yi'an and Lu Changqing were also carrying a large bundle of firewood on their backs. When they saw her, their eyes were clear and bright.
The two boys stood there, their posture upright even with firewood on their backs, like tender and vibrant scallions nourished by the morning dew.
"Sis, where are you going?"
"I just delivered a New Year's gift to the teacher."
The two of them happily surrounded Lin Yinan.
"Sister Anan, we found a rabbit burrow on the mountain. We're planning to take tools and raid the burrow tomorrow. Would you like to come with us?"
Lu Changqing has grown taller, and when he smiles, he reveals two cute little tiger teeth, his face full of youthful vigor.
Yun Shijiu, who was dozing off on Qianwu's back, suddenly perked up, raised her head, and looked at Lin Yinan with bright eyes.
Lin Yinan felt that he had very little time to spend with her, so he agreed.
"Alright, I'll go up the mountain with you tomorrow."
"Sis, it's settled then. Let's go back and get things ready."
The two happily carried the firewood away.
While it was still early, Lin Yinan took Qianwu for a stroll on the street.
While passing by a snack stall, Lin Yinan bought a few meat pies.
"Madam, are you hungry?" Qianwu thought she hadn't eaten enough at the Lin family's house at noon.
Lin Yinan smiled and shook his head, "Buy it for Qianxia. Qianxia loves their fresh meat pies the most. They're not fatty or greasy."
She stood there on the street, her unique temperament, aloof and elegant, making it hard for her not to attract attention.
Upon hearing her name, Qianxia, the stall owner packed the pancakes and looked at her with excitement.
"You are City Lord Lin?!"
Lin Yinan took the cake but didn't say anything.
Qianwu touched the silver and handed it over, but the stall owner quickly refused, "No, no, these are just two cakes, please let me offer them to the city lord. How can I accept your money?"
Without saying a word, Lin Yinan threw the wrapped pancake into his arms and turned to leave.
"We don't want things that don't cost money."
Qianwu was about to follow when the stall owner, quick as a flash, snatched the silver from her hand and stuffed the meat pie back into her hand.
"I've taken the money, sir. Goodbye and don't see me off."
Only after the two had gone far away did he breathe a sigh of relief, realizing he had almost offended the city lord.
Luckily, he was quick-witted!
After walking around, the two bought a lot of food and supplies, and finally packed a large portion of wontons to go.
When they arrived at Qianxia's house, she was sitting in the yard with Liu Sisi, basking in the sun, mending clothes.
Yun Si's house is right next to Yun Shiyi's. Those who know kung fu don't need to go out; they can easily leap over to the neighbor's yard.
Lin Yinan immediately recognized that Qianxia was sewing Yun Shiyi's clothes.
Even if the clothes of the bodyguards are made of the best materials, they wear out very quickly.
Liu Sisi rested her chin on her hand, watching Qianxia's needlework with unblinking eyes, her face full of envy.
Suddenly, she leaned close to Chika and whispered something in her ear, causing Chika to blush instantly.
"Sister Sisi, don't talk nonsense. Our Eleven is a very decent person."
Lin Yinan and Qianwu stepped into the courtyard. "What are you chatting about? You seem so happy."
Whether Lin Yinan heard it or not, Liu Sisi felt embarrassed.
"Madam, Qianwu, please come in and sit down."
Chika hurriedly asked the woman she had invited to prepare tea for the guests.
"These are the foods Madam bought for you. Eat them while they're hot." Qianwu showed her the items in her hands one by one.
Lin Yinan said apologetically to Liu Sisi, "I didn't know you were here, so I didn't buy it for you."
"It's okay. If it's delicious, I'll go to the market to buy some tomorrow."
As Liu Sisi spoke, her bright eyes sparkled, making her a delight to behold.
No wonder there are always lecherous men who spend a fortune just to catch a glimpse of a beautiful woman.
