Chapter 79 Without a trace of emotion

Yunxia gazed at the face that resembled hers and Qianwu's, yet held a fierce expression.

"After your father brought you to the city, he said you got lost. Where have you been all these years?"

When Yun San mentioned his biological father, a sinister glint flashed in his eyes.

“I wasn’t lost. My father took ten taels of silver from the wealthy man’s family in the prefectural city and sold me to his son as a page. Less than two years later, the wealthy man’s family had an accident, and I, at the age of ten, was sold to the master’s mansion.”

"I was beaten half to death every time I tried to escape. In the end, I was fortunate enough to be bought by Young Master Yun, who took me under his wing and trained me from then on."

Yun San recounted his experiences over the past ten years. He recalled how his stepmother had exhausted her vital energy giving birth to the Qianxia sisters, and how the doctor said she would have difficulty conceiving again.

He asked doubtfully, "Your parents only have you two children, why would they sell you?"

Qianwu raised her sleeve to wipe away the tears from the corners of her eyes, like a child who had suffered a great injustice. She choked up and said, "When my sister and I were eight years old, our mother gave birth to a younger brother, and three years ago she had another younger brother."

He begged and pleaded back then, but his father still cruelly sold him. Now he has two more children. Selling the two sisters for food is something that couple would do.

Lin Yinan listened to Lin Yibo's words and just pushed open the door to step out of the house when she saw the Qianxia sisters coming out of the opposite house, their eyes red and swollen, obviously having just cried.

She looked the two of them up and down, and found nothing amiss.

"Were you bullied by the person on the other side?"

Qianxia quickly explained, "Miss, we've found our long-lost brother."

Lin Yinan nodded, "It's good that I wasn't bullied."

At this moment, Liu Ji strode into the courtyard, walked to Lin Yinan's side, interrupted the three of them, and said mysteriously, "Sister Anan, I found a wild boar outside, and I can't handle it by myself."

Lin Yinan raised an eyebrow. "Is there anyone else who knows?"

Liu Ji: "No, I was cutting grass on a hillside in the woods when a wild boar appeared there, digging for grass roots. It hasn't been discovered yet."

"Wait me a moment."

Lin Yinan turned around, went inside to get her bow and arrows, and she and Liu Ji headed straight for the hillside where the wild boar had been found.

Qianwu, relying on her strength, picked up a wood-chopping knife and followed closely behind.

Lin Yinan saw this but didn't say anything. In the midst of chaos, superfluous emotions were not as practical as having enough food to fill one's stomach.

The three arrived at the hillside Liu Ji had mentioned. Lin Yinan immediately saw that the wild boars were still digging for grass roots in the thorn bushes where there was little snow.

She took down her bow and arrows, quickly found the right angle, nocked the arrows, and fired three arrows in succession.

The wild boar was enormous, estimated to weigh five or six hundred pounds, and had an incredibly strong will to live. Despite being shot in the neck and one eye with arrows, it did not die; instead, it ran around in terror.

Liu Ji gripped his sword, while Qian Wu carried a woodcutter's knife. The two attacked from both sides, surrounding and intercepting the wild boar.

The wild boar was eventually stabbed dozens of times and could no longer hold on, collapsing to the ground, barely alive.

The villagers who heard the commotion reported the situation to the Yun family's secret guards on patrol.

When they arrived, Lin Yinan had already tied up the wild boar, supported it with tree branches, and was carrying it up the hillside with Liu Ji and Wu.

When the Yun family's secret guards arrived, they were all taken aback. These three people looked to be only teenagers, yet they were able to work together to kill a wild boar in its prime.

The villagers were so envious they were practically drooling. Even after removing the skin and internal organs, there was still plenty of meat left from such a large wild boar.

As soon as the three of them stepped out of the woods, they encountered Lin Shuo and his son Lin Yizhang, who had rushed over after hearing the news.

Seeing the three of them carrying a large wild boar together, they quickly stepped forward to help and took over from Lin Yinan and Qianwu.

Along the way, it attracted many villagers to follow it.

After the wild boar was carried into the yard, Old Mrs. Zhao, who had received advance notice, had already invited the village's butcher to come.

Lin Yiheng rushed back and saw that the wild boar had already been skinned and gutted.

"Anan, are we going to eat this wild boar meat ourselves?"

Lin Yinan had seriously considered this question when he hunted the wild boar.

"I want to give half to the Yun family, and the clan chief and village chief's families will also get a little."

Li Shulan quickly reminded her.

“Anan, Yunzhi is still injured. Why don’t you send some fresh wild boar meat to his family later?”

"Yes, give some to our future in-laws."

Although Old Mrs. Zhao looked pained, as relatives by marriage, she could not lose the proper etiquette.

Finally, Old Mrs. Zhao gritted her teeth and made the decision, cutting off a pig's leg and having Lin Yinan deliver it to the Su family.

Su Kunliang was very happy about Lin Yinan's arrival, as he had already learned from the villagers that the Lin family had hunted a wild boar.

“I heard you hunted a wild boar, and Yunzhi is worried about whether you were injured.”

Lin Yinan put down the wild boar meat, patted the dirt off his cotton coat, and asked, "Uncle Su, how is Yunzhi's injury?"

"He'll be alright soon. He said he's been lying in the house all day and can't stand it anymore. It's good that you're here. Go and talk to him for me."

Su Kunliang led her to Su Yunzhi's room. There was a heated kang (a traditional heated brick bed) in the room. Su Yunzhi hadn't gone out and was sitting on the warm kang making clothes.

Su's father pulled the unwilling Su Yunru away, leaving only Lin Yinan and Su Yunzhi in the room.

Su Yunzhi looked at Lin Yinan in front of her with deep and warm eyes, "Anan, I heard you hunted a wild boar, were you injured?"

Lin Yinan lowered her eyes, avoiding his burning gaze. "I'm fine, I'm not hurt."

"After the heavy snow, I'll go hunt rabbits for you." He didn't know what Anan liked, but he thought that girls should all like their younger sister, who liked fluffy little animals.

"Yes, I like spicy rabbit head and dry pot rabbit meat."

Su Yunzhi choked, realizing that Anan's hobby was indeed quite peculiar.

He tried to talk to her, but Jixiang's voice came from outside the door.

"Miss Lin, Madam requests your presence."

"You get some rest, I'll go check on things."

Lin Yinan left those words abruptly, turned and left, almost fleeing in embarrassment. She really couldn't reciprocate his advances.

Zhu Jinhui was in the kitchen when Lin Yinan came in. Without any pleasantries, she went straight to the point, "What was it about Yunzhi's marriage that you said you wanted to talk to me about last time?"

Ha! This person is really impatient; he can't wait a moment longer to seize an opportunity.

"It's about breaking off the engagement with Young Master Su." Lin Yinan looked directly at her.

The handkerchief Zhu Jinhui was holding fluttered to the ground. "You want to break off the engagement?"

"What? You can't bear to part with it?" Lin Yinan asked sarcastically.

Zhu Jinhui glanced at her sideways, somewhat disbelieving, "You think you can make that decision?"

Lin Yinan took out the engagement invitation and the jade pendant that Su Yunzhi had given him last year from his pocket and handed them to her.

"Don't you want to withdraw?"

Without a second thought, Zhu Jinhui snatched the two items from her hands. "Wait here, I'll go get your invitation."

She hurriedly ran out of the kitchen and returned shortly afterward.

"Here, this is yours. Take it. This marriage is off."

Lin Yinan put the post into her pocket, threw it into her spatial storage, and turned to leave.

"Wait." As if remembering something, Zhu Jinhui quickly called out to her, her voice pleading, "Could you please not tell my husband and Yunzhi before we reach the South?"

Lin Yinan rolled her eyes, her voice cold and devoid of any emotion.

"Can!"
