Pan Qingshui was Pan Qingfeng's cousin. He was only thirteen or fourteen years old, but he was well-read and knowledgeable. Lin Yinan suggested that he help compile books.
This newly revised encyclopedia of ancient science and technology is written in simplified Chinese characters. They can only recognize a limited number of characters, so Lin Yinan needs to give them pointers from time to time.
Qianxia brought out some mung bean porridge from the kitchen to cool off in the summer heat. As soon as she put down the tray, she smiled and said, "Miss, the young master is back!"
Lin Yinan sipped the lukewarm mung bean porridge with a spoon, calculating the time; their return was within the planned timeframe.
Seeing that she didn't intend to get up, Qianwu asked, "Miss, aren't you going to go and see?"
"What's wrong?"
Qianwu immediately said, "The young master brought back so many things..."
She was speaking when Yun Mo walked in from outside the door.
He glanced around, his expression gentle, and said, "This room is quite cool. What are you chatting about? You seem to be having a good time."
"Qianwu said you brought back a lot of things."
Yun Mo nodded. "There are many things we've never seen before. Do you want to go and see them?"
"good."
After Lin Yinan finished drinking the mung bean porridge in her bowl, she put the bowl down, and Yun Mo stepped forward to help her up.
Upon entering the lobby, I found a large group of people gathered around several baskets, discussing loudly.
The things in the basket were what Yun Mo and the others brought back.
"Anan is here!"
Someone shouted something, and the crowd automatically parted to make way.
The clan chief quickly beckoned Lin Yinan over, pointing to the contents of the basket and asking her, "Yinan, come and see what these things are? Are they edible?"
Lin Yinan looked into the basket and saw that it was filled with green grapes, shaped like emeralds.
“Lord City Lord, these are grapes that grow in the mountains, they’re edible!” A local villager from Longtan County looked at her with bright eyes.
Lin Yinan reached out and picked a grape, putting it in her mouth. The skin was a little astringent, but the taste was sweet and sour. The unprocessed grape had many seeds and was very juicy.
"Do you like it?" Yun Mo asked, looking at her.
Lin Yinan nodded and said to the clan chief, "Clan chief, please try it. It tastes pretty good."
So, everyone carefully picked one and put it in their mouths to bite.
The clan chief, the village chief, and some people who couldn't eat sour food frowned at the sourness.
For many people who haven't had much good food, this tastes quite good.
"Delicious! It's a little sour and a little sweet."
"The kids will definitely love this question."
Lin Yinan carefully examined the several baskets of grapes; a few were green with a hint of yellow, but most were still green.
"These grapes should be sweeter if they are left to grow for a while before being picked."
The villager nodded, "That's right, I said it wasn't ripe enough, but Third Master Yun insisted on picking it for you to try."
Everyone was caught off guard and fed a mouthful of dog food, which meant that these few baskets of grapes were used by Third Master Yun to curry favor with the city lord.
"Are there many fruit trees on the mountain?" Lin Yinan asked.
The villagers said, "There are many grape vines growing all over half of that mountain. We used to pick them to eat when we had nothing else to eat, but eating too much of them can cause stomach aches."
Lin Yinan knew that grapes contain irritating ingredients, and that eating a lot of them could irritate the stomach and intestines, causing discomfort such as bloating, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
"It seems we can't give the children too much to eat," the chieftain said.
Lin Yinan, however, said, "We can consider transplanting some back to grow."
"This stuff is a bit astringent. We used to pick it and sell it in the city, but many wealthy people didn't like it," the villager said, frowning.
“No, we don’t sell them, we use them to make wine.” Lin Yinan picked another yellow one and put it in her mouth.
Yun Mo looked at her with sparkling eyes, "You can brew wine?"
Lin Yinan said, "The wine made from these grapes is very delicious. If we plant them on a large scale, we can sell the wine we make."
Upon hearing that the grapes could be sold for money, the clan chief said, "I will send someone up the mountain tomorrow to pick all the grapes."
Lin Yinan smiled and stopped him, "Grandpa Chief, don't rush. Besides picking the fruit, we also need to tidy up that hillside so that it will bear more grapes next year."
"What do you think we should do?" the clan chief asked.
Lin Yinan said to Lin Yiheng, who had been silent the whole time, "Brother, remember this. Find a team that is familiar with the terrain of that mountain and knows how to plant and manage fruit trees. You can dig up the saplings around here and transplant them."
“Okay, I know how to arrange it.” As soon as she said that, Lin Yiheng understood the key point.
Once the matter was settled, the clan chief asked a young man to bring over a large vat, intending to use all the grapes from these baskets to make wine.
"Grandpa Chief, we can't brew much with this, so let everyone have a taste."
With more people now, and with Lin Yuanzhi's occasional reminders, the clan leader is always worried that Lin Yinan doesn't have enough money. He tries to increase revenue and reduce expenditure in every aspect.
This made Lin Yinan feel very gratified.
"Alright, I'll listen to you." The clan leader thought that winning people's hearts was also important, so he stopped worrying about the fruit.
He bent down and personally picked out a bunch of large, yellow grapes from the basket, handing them to Qianxia. "Take these back for Anan as a snack."
Then he waved to a few villagers, telling them to carry it to the dining hall and distribute it to everyone when it was time to eat.
After the villagers left, Yunmo left behind the core personnel of each department.
He unfolded the map that Yun Qi had drawn, pointed to the beach, and reported to everyone what they had discovered.
"This beach is very secluded, not far from Xihe County, just over the mountain. Although it is a flat beach, Japanese pirates never land here. There are no inhabitants around, nor any farmland to cultivate..."
