Chapter 71 The Lu Family Banquet

Aunt Zhao nodded with a smile. After finishing her meal, she was about to head back before the sun went down. Wang Lan, Zhao Fen, and Lu Yan all saw her off. Qin Xiaozhou carried a basket with a few vegetables on it and handed it to Aunt Zhao, saying, "Aunt Zhao, these vegetables are from my family. They're delicious. Here, take them."

Li Fengxian leaned against the courtyard gate, picking her teeth. She wanted to see what good things the Lu family had brought to the Zhao family. When she saw that it was just a few vegetables, she snorted, "I say, niece-in-law, the Zhao family also farms. They have these few vegetables of their own. Why do they need to take them all the way back?"

Qin Xiaozhou rolled her eyes. "So you know I grow my own vegetables now!"

How could you possibly bring a few vegetables to a family banquet? Qin Xiaozhou refrained from saying that last sentence because Li Fengxian had helped clean up the dishes earlier that day, thus saving her some face.

Zhao Fang also urged her to take it, and only then did Aunt Zhao take the basket, saying, "Don't bother, you'll get it."

My second cousin's wife explained the situation: "Before leaving, my cousin's wife insisted that my aunt take the vegetables back, saying that she wanted to try the vegetables grown by her family." As she spoke, she took the vegetables out of the basket. At the bottom were large vegetable leaves holding something that smelled of meat. When she opened it, there were two large pieces of meat.

The Zhao family members all gathered around. Zhao Feng swallowed hard; the meat smelled delicious. He couldn't help but sigh, "No wonder I asked you to bring it back. This meat is worth at least thirty coins. You can eat and take it with you when you visit."

Zhao Feng's wife was also embarrassed and at a loss, but she was finally reassured after her father-in-law spoke up.
