Chapter 4 Peeping at the Bath

When Jiang Yue returned home, the family had already started eating and no one was waiting for her.

Fortunately, she ate the buns secretly.

Seeing her come back, Eugene Hua raised her thin eyelids and said, "Hang out the clothes."

Then he said, "It takes so long to wash clothes, you are really lazy!"

Jiang Dagui frowned, "Mom, please stop nagging. It's really annoying."

Eugene immediately shut up and smiled like a blooming chrysanthemum as she put some food into her beloved eldest son's bowl. "Okay, okay, I was wrong. I won't say anything."

Jiang Yue glanced over and met Jiang Dagui's eyes.

Her heart skipped a beat and she turned to go to the backyard to hang clothes.

Jiang Dagui is more than a year older than her. He is 1.65 meters tall and has a shriveled face with pits and depressions. The look in his eyes when he looked at Jiang Yue was obscene and disgusting.

Jiang Yue casually draped her clothes on the rope, then took the basin to the river to fetch water. She didn't know how much dust had accumulated on her body, and she felt very uncomfortable.

She put the basin beside the bed and didn't wash herself yet, planning to wait until late at night when everyone was asleep before slowly wiping herself.

In the ancient countryside, there was no entertainment at night except for things happening in bed.

In addition, Eugene Hua was stingy, so there were no candles in the house.

Once it gets dark, no one in this house will come out.

The window paper on Jiang Yue's little house window was already in tatters and she had no money to buy new ones, so she could only cover it with straw.

When she took off her shoes and was about to undress, she had a strong feeling of being watched!

She remained calm, but put down her buttons and put her feet directly into the basin. She just needed to wash her hands and feet tonight.

It was quiet outside the window, and bright moonlight came in.

Out of the corner of her eye, she caught a glimpse of a dark figure standing by the window. Heavy breathing could be heard faintly in the darkness.

She closed her eyes, clenched her fists, and quickly washed her feet. Without pouring any water, she crawled directly into the torn quilt with her back to the window.

Not knowing when the man outside left, Jiang Yue was worried and fell asleep near dawn, but was woken up again not long after.

She had a gloomy face. She lit a fire, didn't set up the table, and went straight into the mountains with her backpack on her back.

Eugene Hua was so happy that she didn't even give her the water used to wash the pot.

Jiang Yue's five senses are quite sharp. When she walked out of the house, she could feel a pair of explicit gazes staring at her from behind, making her feel numb all over.

She knew that she had to find someone to marry, otherwise her situation in this family would only become more and more dangerous.

But getting married doesn’t mean you can just pick anyone from the street and enter the bridal chamber. You might end up walking out of a den of jackals and into a wolf’s den!

Uncle Jiang's house is located in the middle of the village.

She walked through the village and met some diligent villagers who got up early to weed the fields.

She returned to her usual taciturn and timid self, answering timidly and winning praise from the villagers again.

Here, what we like most are people who do their job obediently.

After entering the mountain, she first went to the big pit where she fell yesterday. Looking down, there was only a pool of blood and a tuft of wolf hair that she had cut off on the ground.

He should have been saved, right?

Jiang Yue felt relieved, and as she walked, she gathered some weeds and stuffed them into her backpack. The little spotted pig wasn't going to grow meat anyway, and even if it did, it would only be sold and never go into her mouth. As long as she couldn't keep it alive, it was fine.

There are many climbing plants in the mountains, but she has good eyesight and saw the one she wanted at a glance.

She squatted down, picked a larger green leaf next to it, wrapped her hand with it, and then pulled out the itchy grass.

Her mission today was to find this grass. She had stumbled upon it yesterday and memorized its location.

After she packed the grass and put it in the backpack, she was about to go back when the feeling of being watched came back.

She turned quickly, but found no one.

This location, between the front mountain and the deep mountains, is not uncommon. However, following behind silently is very problematic.

She half-knelt down and picked up a sharp stone.

Then, he slowly walked forward.

"Who's there?"

No one answered.

In the silent forest, you can occasionally hear the sounds of birds and insects. The trees block out the sky and a feeling of suffocation is overwhelming.

She swallowed and walked forward.

Suddenly, a faint rustling sound was heard.

She hurled the rock into the bushes, but it seemed to miss.

But a pheasant flew towards her and landed at her feet.

Jiang Yue was shocked.

"Who is it?! Is anyone there?! Come out!"

Her voice echoed in the vast mountains, but no one responded.

Seeing that no one appeared in front of her, she kicked the pheasant lightly with her foot and found that it was half dead.

Jiang Yue's eyes were sharp, "Who is playing tricks? Get out here now!"

In the quiet space, only the sounds of birds and wind can be heard.

She slowly squatted down, picked up the chicken's neck, and checked it carefully, but found nothing wrong with the chicken.

It's a pretty fat pheasant.

"If you don't come out, I'll take this chicken away." Jiang Yue put the chicken in the backpack and walked down the mountain quickly. The speed was almost like running.

If she looked back, she would see a wild wolf walking out of the bushes, its amber pupils staring at her closely.

When Jiang Yue was almost at the foot of the mountain, he looked around and saw no one, so he quickly put the pheasant into the space. Then he slowly walked into the village.

It is already late May today. Except for three-year-old Jiang Xiaohua who is locked in the house to sleep, the four members of my uncle's family have all gone to the fields to pull weeds.

If the weeds are not removed, it will affect the harvest, which is a big issue for farmers.

The reason why Jiang Yue didn't have to go was because she had to feed the pigs, cook, wash clothes, fetch water, and chop wood. In short, she didn't have to go to the fields to pull weeds, and she had to do all the other work.

But the villagers couldn't see it. Except for a few neighbors close to my uncle's house who knew the truth, other families in the village praised them, saying they treated their niece better than their own sons and didn't even have to work in the fields.

Even after being praised, Eugenia would casually point out her niece's laziness, making them seem even more tolerant.

He's really good at pulling people down.

Jiang Yue took some gravel and crushed the itchy grass to extract the juice. Then, she walked under the eaves and used straw to smear the juice on the collars, chests, and waistbands of the family's clothes.

After Jiang Yue wiped the juice, she buried all the tools used in the crime in the backyard.

Seeing that it was getting late, she went into the kitchen and cooked for them.

Eugene Hua was guarding against her like a thief, so she locked the food in the cupboard. But that wasn't all, she also locked the cupboard inside the house.

Jiang Yue didn't care. After all, she was a big grain producer now and didn't need this little corn porridge.

She cooked it casually, put it in a basket and took it to the field.

Well, she wouldn't say that she added some stuff to it, let alone that the stuff was taken from the pigpen.

As for Jiang Xiaohua, since Eugene Hua hadn't said anything, she didn't care. After all, her own mother didn't care, so why should she care so much?

What's more, she was a "shrew in the making." At such a young age, she was bossing her around, completely devoid of manners and upbringing. A child's age could be judged by their appearance; she was a carbon copy of Eugenie.
