Chapter 80: Refugee Injury

A group of ragged and foul-smelling refugees came to the street where the Jiang family lived.

They spread out, knocking on each door, and if there was no sound, they would continue. As soon as someone answered or heard a noise, they would start to pry the door open.

Some people's homes have low walls, so they don't need to knock on the door and can just climb over it to get in.

Their house had high walls and a heavy gate, so the refugees only knocked twice and then left.

Jiang Yue leaned against the door and could clearly hear the sound of robbery coming from the street.

"This is the life-saving money that my family has saved!"

"Don't steal my food! Please! This is the last food we have, and we're almost starving to death!"

"Can you please let us go? Please!"

The refugees rushed into people's homes and looted indiscriminately, killing anyone who stood in their way and running away after stealing.

"Let my daughter go!"

"Ah ...

This was the voice of the little girl from the house across the street. She was only 10 years old. Jiang Yue had seen her before. She had round eyes and was very cute.

She clenched the knife in her hand, her eyes full of pity, "Big boy, let's help them."

"Um."

Jiang Nian opened the door and the two of them went out.

One refugee was carrying food in his left hand and holding the little girl in his right hand, trying to leave. His parents, their clothes in disarray, chased after him, trying to pull their daughter back. At this moment, another refugee came over, raised a knife, and was about to chop the couple.

"Ah!" Jiang Nian first kicked off his knife-holding hand, and then cut his throat with a knife.

Seeing that something was wrong, the other refugee dropped the girl in his hands and tried to run away.

Jiang Yue kicked him in the chest, fracturing his sternum. He spat out blood and began to beg for mercy. She half-crouched, stabbed the knife in her right hand directly into his heart, and instantly fell silent. Blood flowed all over the floor.

Jiang Yue took the food from him, stuffed it into the girl's arms, and handed the refugee's knife to her father.

The family was still crying and feeling lucky that they had survived the disaster.

Jiang Yue warned, "Those with knives, take them; those with sticks, take them; hide in the cellar. These refugees are ordinary people like you, weaker than you. If you beg for mercy, they will become bolder."

How can you survive if you become so weak that you don't even dare to fight before the other party even starts to make a move?

The girl's father seemed to understand, his eyes became firm, he took the knife and held it tightly in his hand to protect his family.

Jiang Yue and the others went to the house next door. Two people were already dead in the yard, and the ground was covered with messy bloody footprints. The three refugees were still searching for things.

When he saw Jiang Yue, his eyes lit up and he came up to pull her.

And just as she said, these people had no skills at all and fell down with just a push.

Jiang Yue and the other man fought quickly and decisively, and after taking care of the refugees on the street, they returned home and continued to guard the door.

The sounds of looting and smashing in the city lasted for two hours before gradually dying down. This must be because the number of refugees was small and the government successfully suppressed it.

No one dared to sleep in the second half of the night, and they waited in fear until dawn.

Jiang Yue and the other person went out. They had to see what the city had become.

Looking from the wall, the streets seemed quiet, like an ordinary morning. But if you took a walk, you could feel the devastation.

Some people are thankful that their gates and walls are high and no one can get in.

Some people were trembling as they cleaned up the messy yard, as if they had not yet come to their senses.

Some people hugged their dead family members and wailed, complaining about the injustice of the world and cursing the thief to death, saying that after cursing, they had to live a miserable life.

What’s worse, there wasn’t even anyone to collect the bodies, and no one in the family of four survived.

Many wounded officers and soldiers were lying in front of the yamen, having worked all night. Looking inside, many refugees had been detained, awaiting their fate.

Some people heard the news and came to beat and kill these refugees. The government office fell into chaos again.

Jiang Yue didn't want to get involved, so she took a look and left.

As they walked, they arrived at the Wang family residence.

"Seeking medicine?"

Jiang Yue looked at a request for medicine posted on the door.

The door was open and many people were coming in and out.

The thin housekeeper Wang was seeing a group of people out, his face full of worry.

"Butler Wang." Jiang Yue called.

Butler Wang turned around, looking puzzled, "Young lady, do you know me?"

"I've sent wild animals to your house before."

Butler Wang looked at the pretty young lady, and then at the tall man with extraordinary temperament beside her.

"Oh, it's the young lady and the young master." He remembered that there were some big changes from before.

Seeing that he was anxious, Jiang Yue didn't talk about the past. "I wonder what medicine your family is looking for? I happen to have some medicine on hand, maybe it can help."

Butler Wang was overjoyed and quickly invited the person into his home.

"To be honest, my house was broken into by thieves. Although they were all apprehended, the master was seriously injured and bleeding profusely. We have a pharmacy and a doctor at home, but..."

Hemostatic medicine? Jiang Yue happened to have some.

With the Wang family's wealth, they should have many guards, but they were able to allow refugees to break in and injure the master.

Jiang Yue had no intention of knowing the truth; she only cared about the reward after saving people.

"Butler Wang, I have some excellent wound medicine from the Western Regions. It should stop the bleeding."

Butler Wang was ecstatic. Now the master was being kept on a ginseng-suspended bed. As long as the bleeding could be stopped, the doctor would be able to bring the patient back to life.

Jiang Yue opened a small bottle, removed the label, and let him take it to the doctor for examination. He could decide whether to use it or not. Jiang Yue only wanted the corresponding compensation and didn't care about anything else.

Steward Wang took the medicine to the doctor, but no one knew what the ingredients were. Seeing the master's breath weakening, he gritted his teeth and applied the medicine to the wound and bandaged it as Jiang Yue had instructed.

After applying it twice a day for two days, the bleeding stopped completely!

The doctor kept calling it a miracle drug, but unfortunately the young lady refused to "exchange medical skills."

Jiang Yue: We can exchange experiences as middlemen.

On the third day, Mr. Wang was able to sit up on the bed and talk, and his breathing was louder than before.

He ignored the person who stabbed him in the back for the moment; he wanted to know what was happening with the couple.

Before, when he hunted rare wild animals, he simply thought they were capable mountain dwellers. But now, he no longer believed that. According to Butler Wang's description, the two had survived a year of disaster and still managed to thrive. Even wealthy families like them could hardly achieve that.

“Ahem!”

"master."

Mr. Wang waved his hand. "What do they want?"

Butler Wang had a complicated expression on his face. "They don't want gold or silver. They want some rare calligraphy or paintings or elegant 'works of art'. Masterpieces of seal carving or sculpture are also fine, as long as they are valuable."

Mr. Wang stroked his beard. Is he a man who loves talent? Do the mountain people love talent?

Jiang Yue: Fake, all fake! I'll just love money after a while!

Mr. Wang nodded, "I understand. Please select five pieces of calligraphy and painting from my collection of famous artists and send them to me."

Steward Wang nodded in agreement. Saving the master's life was the proper thing to do.
