Chapter 5 Making a Fool of Yourself

"Oh, is that Xiaoyue? Are you here to bring food to your uncle's family?" A dark-skinned auntie was sitting on the edge of the field and asked her when she saw her.

She didn't know the man, but she agreed, "Well, aunt, I'm here to deliver food to my uncle's house."

A young wife nearby asked maliciously, "Why didn't you go to the fields with me?"

Jiang Yue's face showed a look of gratitude. "My aunt said that I'm not young anymore and I need to take good care of myself. Every day I just need to cut grass to feed the pigs, wash clothes, cook, mend clothes, fetch water and chop firewood. I don't need to do anything else."

Everyone in the field had a strange expression. Besides working in the fields, they'd already done all the work. What else could they be busy with? Besides, the fields weren't busy right now. A family of four was so exhausted just pulling weeds, and they needed a little girl to do the work of fetching water and chopping wood?

This is too outrageous!

Although the villagers say girls have to work, this kind of heavy labor isn't an option. If a woman is to do this, it's because the men in her family are all dead...

Jiang Yue acted as if she knew nothing and kept a stiff smile all the way. She lowered her head and answered everyone who asked her, appearing to be well-behaved and obedient.

At least I can restore a good image in front of everyone, right?

By the time she arrived at Uncle Jiang's field, Eugene was already groaning with hunger. She shouted, "You little bastard, are you being lazy again? Why are you bringing the food so late?"

These words were not pleasant to the ears at all, and the people resting under the tree frowned.

Jiang Dajin tugged at the woman's sleeve and glared at her, and she stopped talking in anger.

As to why Jiang Dajin's family was willing to raise an orphan, in addition to the concern of the villagers, it was also because of the silver left by her parents when they died.

He received money from the village chief and promised to take good care of their only daughter.

If they openly abused orphan girls and their reputation was ruined, good families would not be willing to marry their daughters to them. Eugene Hua was still waiting to find a wife for her eldest son.

Jiang Dajin said to Jiang Yue with a pleasant expression, "Xiaoyue, you've worked hard. After you're done, go home and eat, and have a good rest."

Jiang Yue sneered inwardly. Is there anything else to eat at home?

She also smiled and replied gently, "Okay, uncle."

She went back to her room without hesitation. Since she said she wanted to rest well, then she could go to sleep. Her body was really in a bad state. Unfortunately, she couldn't eat any supplements openly for the time being.

In this family, it is a sin to raise a child too well.

The next day, because of the pheasant incident the day before, Jiang Yue did not go into the mountains, but only cut grass for pigs at the foot of the mountain.

Just as she expected, Jiang Dajin and his family made a big fool of themselves.

The weather has been mild recently and the work in the fields is not heavy. After pulling weeds, many people sit under the trees to cool off and chat.

As they were chatting, Eugene Hua suddenly felt itchy.

She scratched her neck and her chest began to itch.

At first, she tried to look good and scratched gently. But her weak strength didn't relieve the itch, so she scratched harder, and before she knew it, the buttons on her chest were broken.

That’s not all, after scratching her chest, she started scratching her butt!

Aunt Jiang Liu couldn't bear it any longer, "Da Jin family, what are you doing?"

The chest fat is almost showing. Don’t you see the men under the tree looking there?

Eugene Hua felt more and more itchy the more she scratched. "Is there a bug on my body? It's so itchy!"

Jiang Dajin also started scratching, and so did his two sons.

Jiang Dagui could still bear it and just scratched silently, but the ten-year-old Jiang Erfu could not bear the discomfort and rolled on the ground, scratching as he rolled. He put one hand into his crotch and scratched his neck with the other hand, leaving bloody marks on his neck.

"Mom! It's so itchy! I feel so uncomfortable!"

Aunt Jiang Liu saw the whole family scratching themselves, so she went over to take a look and said, "Ouch! There are bloody marks all over my body from scratching. No more scratching!"

She didn't know what was going on and didn't dare to pull it.

The onlookers also shifted their gaze away from Eugene's chest and began to show concern.

"Is this some kind of poison? Why is it that only your family is affected?"

Eugene Hua was no longer able to think at this moment. All she could hear was the word "poisoned". She cried and screamed for her life.

At the critical moment, Jiang Dajin remained calm and said, "Enough! Stop shouting!"

Eugene Hua was like a chicken with its throat pinched, and she lost her voice in an instant.

Jiang Dajin helped his youngest son up and held his hand tightly to stop him from scratching. "Let's go to Uncle Sanhe's house to see what's going on."

Jiang Sanhe is one of the few people in the village who knows a little about herbal medicine. Villagers will go to him for treatment when they have minor illnesses or pains. They will spend a few cents to buy some medicine and get better after taking it.

The four members of the family went to see the doctor together, and the curious person followed them.

Jiang Sanhe was frightened by the crying and thought something big had happened.

He ran out in a hurry to take a look without even putting on his shoes.

After asking about the symptoms, he said, "Oh! You've been poisoned by the itchy grass. It's nothing serious."

The villagers lost interest when they heard this. This itchy grass, though common in the mountains, wouldn't be surprising to see in the village. Perhaps it had grown in their fields, and that was why the whole family had been poisoned.

Jiang Sanhe asked, "Do you want to buy some medicine to wash it back or not?"

Eugene Hua blurted out, "No!"

But Jiang Erfu cried and shouted to buy it, he was almost dying of itchiness!

This itchy grass isn't fatal. If you don't use any medicine to scrub it, the itch will go away in two or three days. But the child couldn't help it, and after two or three days, he was already scratching himself to pieces.

Jiang Dajin said with a gloomy face, "Uncle Sanhe, I want three doses of potion."
