Chapter 19 Thief

Jiang Yue rubbed herself for half an hour, rubbed off all the mud, and felt relaxed.

She looked down at the small bump on her chest and sighed, wondering if it could be mended. In her previous life, she had been naturally beautiful, with a curvaceous figure, but now she had suddenly become a skinny bean sprout. She was not happy at all.

Fortunately, Xiao Jiangyue had been keeping herself well-protected, so her skin was quite fair, though her face had turned yellow from lack of nutrition, and her hair was also dry and yellow at the ends. Her hair was originally long, the standard "waist-length," but she simply cut off 5 inches and was able to wear it in a bun.

She tidied herself up, looked up, and found that Jiang Nian was staring at her.

"What's wrong? Do you want a haircut too?"

She touched the wolf hair on her body. It was wet and in clumps. She didn't dare cut it, for fear that it would become ugly like a dog-eaten hair, just like when she treated the wound before.

She held the soap and said, "We won't cut it, let's give you a good scrub."

It was hot now, and she was afraid that Jiang Nian might have lice on his body, but fortunately he was a clean wolf, and apart from some scars left from fighting, there were no mosquitoes or insects on his body.

After drying her hair in the mountains, Jiang Yue lay on Jiang Nian's back and asked him to go find ginseng slowly.

She didn't find ginseng, but she found Polygonum multiflorum and Poria cocos.

These two things also surprised the owner of the clinic, as they were both good medicinal herbs.

Both of these items were very heavy, and together with the yams that Jiang Yue had saved, they sold for a total of 6 taels of silver.

"Boss, I wonder where I can find medical books on how to prepare medicinal herbs?"

The shopkeeper opened his eyes wide, and he really couldn't judge a person by appearance. "Young lady, can you read?"

"I can just understand some simple words." Jiang Yue was not modest. The most she could do was read and recognize simple traditional Chinese characters.

This is quite remarkable. Nowadays, all the ladies who can read and write are in the homes of scholars.

The shopkeeper took out a thin book from under the cabinet. "This is for apprentices. It contains common medicinal preparation techniques. Our clinic has a connection with you, young lady, so I'm giving it to you."

Although the craftsmanship is not passed on to outsiders, how can you buy truly important skills in a bookstore? They are all in the master's mind. Thinking of relying on such a small skill to steal a job is wishful thinking. The shopkeeper is not afraid at all.

After a few interactions, he felt a liking for the young couple. Furthermore, he would send the prepared herbs to his family. This was a mutually beneficial deal.

Jiang Yue knew that books were precious things in this era, so she quickly thanked the shopkeeper.

Before leaving, she asked the doctor at the clinic to help take her and Jiang Nian's pulse.

Doctor Zhu knew that this was a herbal farmer with whom he had a cooperative relationship, so he spoke directly and clearly.

"This gentleman is in good health and is fine. But you, young lady, are weak and frail..."

Jiang Yue summed up the doctor's words in four words: malnutrition. He prescribed several medicines to help him recover. But to replenish the body, medicine is not as good as food.

She looked at Jiang Nian. She had a big-eating cub to raise, and she didn't know how long the 100 chickens she bought would last. Oh no, there were only 97 chickens left...

The shopkeeper waived some of the medical expenses for them, so they only had about 8 taels and 5 cents left, which was a considerable amount of money.

But for what she wanted to do, the money was still coming in too slowly.

Back at the thatched hut, she cooked rice, stir-fried vegetables, left half a raw chicken for Jiang Nian, and stewed the other half with wolfberries and red dates.

The aroma filled the air, and even as a chef, she was practically drooling. Luckily, there were no living neighbors nearby, or they would have been discovered long ago. Jiangjia Village only smelled the aroma of meat during festivals.

She ate her fill, then stared at Jiang Nian as he finished the remaining cooked food bite by bite.

"What's wrong? Isn't this meat too? It's so fat."

Jiang Yue put a few pieces of chicken in his bowl and looked at his tightly furrowed brows, as if he was disgusted.

"I'm telling you, even if you're still complaining about it now, when a natural disaster comes in a while, there's no meat and you'll have to eat grass! Who knows, there might not even be grass left and you'll have to chew on turf to survive, do you understand?"

Jiang Nian sniffed and ate all the meat and vegetables with a wronged look, leaving nothing behind.

That’s right, children should not be spoiled.

Before going to bed, she didn't notice that Jiang Nian had stripped himself naked and lay on the bed. He probably still didn't like wearing clothes.

But Jiang Yue wasn't a savage, so how could she see naked bodies every day? This body was only 15 years old, and even her menstrual period was still irregular. Her hormones couldn't be allowed to rise wildly.

She knelt on the bed, ruffling his thick, soft hair, and gently stroking his little canine teeth with her fingertips.

Jiang Nian's ears twitched, and he instantly turned back into a wolf. Jiang Yue had no place to hold on and fell directly on him.

Jiang Nian took the opportunity to roll her up with his tail.

Buried in the warm body, she spoke in a muffled voice, "Is it because you've been eating too well lately? Why do I feel like you're getting bigger and bigger?"

The human body had not changed much, but the wolf body, which was only slightly bigger than her before, was now one-third larger, filling up the bed.

Speaking of big prey, she reached out and rubbed Jiang Nian's pointed ears, "Can you catch big prey? Our money comes too slowly, and I'm afraid we won't have enough time to prepare."

She bought a few bamboo cages, planning to keep the surviving rabbits and pheasants in them. She would have to buy chickens and pigs later to stock up on meat.

Her space can only grow plants, not raise animals, and at best it can only maintain a static state of neither life nor death.

Jiang Nian rubbed her neck, probably agreeing.

A man and a wolf were sleeping soundly when a stealthy figure came out of the village and slowly approached the foot of the mountain.

Jiang Nian opened his eyes, and his sharp eyes seemed to glow in the darkness.

The person in his arms was sleeping soundly. He slowly got up and pushed her against the wall.

The thatched hut had no gate or fence. The thief was afraid of being recognized, so he covered half of his face, leaving only a pair of small eyes exposed.

He tiptoed to the window and looked at the bed through the moonlight. There was only a woman sleeping on the bed.

He smiled silently and obscenely, then turned around and was about to pry the door open when a pair of shining eyes stared at him in the darkness of the corner.

He collapsed to the ground instantly, breathing rapidly, as if someone had strangled him by the neck, and was so scared that he lost his voice.

The monster seemed to be walking towards him. He reacted and ran into the village as fast as he could in his life...

Jiang Yue was dazed and seemed to hear a "thump". She half-opened her eyes and found herself lying on the bed. "Big boy, Jiang Nian?"

Jiang Nian walked back to the bed and licked her face.

Jiang Yue buried her face in it, not wanting to be licked until it became sticky, "Where have you been?"

There was no answer, and she soon fell asleep again.
