Chapter 120 Walking the Mule

"What happened next door? Can't find anyone?" Jiang Yue frowned and half sat up.

I just heard people shouting outside, and now I hear crying next door. It's likely someone has had an accident. I don't know what the reason is.

Jiang Nian pulled her down to lie down, held her in his arms, then covered her ears with his hands and kissed her forehead, "Well, we don't care, just sleep well."

He clicked his tongue softly, "It's so noisy."

"Yeah." Jiang Yue closed her eyes and fell asleep in the warm embrace.

She was just asking casually. Even if Dacub had a keen sense of smell, he wasn't a patrol dog. Was he supposed to be used as a dog by outsiders? He wasn't related to them, so there was no way he could go out at night to help find someone.

This mountain was unfamiliar to them, and they didn't know if there was any danger.

Jiang Yue: Don’t ask. If you ask, I’ll just forget the time when I first used the cub like a hunting dog to hunt for ginseng.

The next morning, Jiang Yue was half asleep and woke up to the sound of "Liu Er" shouting.

She frowned. Although she understood the pain of losing her family, she couldn't help but feel a grumpiness. She had no choice but to let out a long breath.

Jiang Nian stroked her smooth hair and said gently, "You stay in the cave. I'll take the mule out for a walk and eat some grass for a change of pace."

In order to avoid stealing food from the refugees, they had been feeding the mules beans, wheat bran and vegetables.

The weeds are growing thicker now, so I need to take the mule out for a walk to prevent it from getting lazy. If I need it, it won't even be able to run.

Jiang Yue put her arms around his neck and leaned over to kiss him. Good morning kisses in the morning and good night kisses before going to bed had become their daily habits.

"Okay, don't go too far."

Jiang Nian enjoyed this behavior very much. He smiled slightly and rested his forehead against hers. "Well, I'll be back soon."

Jiang Nian led the mule and walked towards the place where the wild grass was most abundant, passing by some refugees who were looking for someone.

"This mule is so strong! It's well-grown!"

After being a silent neighbor for more than ten days, the refugee had seen many mules when passing by. Although he was envious of the mules, he no longer had any other thoughts and only dared to stare at people secretly.

Jiang Nian has been feeling bored lately and hasn't worn a mask. In Jiang Yue's words, his sharp features give him a kind of unapproachable aura.

After more than a year of lack of food and clothing, the refugees were reduced to mere skeletons, unable even to hold up their clothes. When the wind blew, their clothes bulged with air.

The man's body was also bulging, but it was obvious that he had solid flesh.

Although this dress is also made of gray fabric, it is actually cotton and has no patches!

The envy on their faces was overflowing. Even when times were good, they couldn't wear clothes without patches.

"Look, his fist is twice as big as mine! Tsk, tsk, no wonder he can kill a wild boar with one punch!"

"He could probably lift two of you in one hand!"

"Hush! Keep your voices down! Didn't you see the knife tucked behind him? The legendary knife that killed bandits and officials! It's sharp, don't mess with it!"

"Hey, let's go, stop talking nonsense and go find Liu Er. Where on earth did this kid go?"

"Liu Er!"

"Hey, do you think he might have already..."

"Don't say such depressing things! They have several young children. If something happens, who will support the family..."

The voice gradually faded away and finally escaped Jiang Nian's ears.

Jiang Nian turned a deaf ear to those inquiries and discussions, as long as no one came over to cause a fight.

He didn't want to greet anyone who was irrelevant, so he led the mule away, away from the noise.

The weeds were indeed tenacious. Within just ten days, the barren mountain had begun to turn green. Even the trees that hadn't completely withered had sprouted green leaves, a scene of vibrant life.

Jiang Nian let go of the rope and patted the mule's butt. "Go and eat quickly. You can eat as much as you want today."

The mule let out a long breath from its nose. It was really going crazy from holding its breath. It gnawed on the fresh grass on the ground with a wheezing sound.

A quarter of an hour later, the mule slowed down its grazing. Jiang Nian stroked its back and scraped the dirt off it with a large leaf. A drizzle fell, and Jiang Nian gave it a bath.

It had rained heavily before, and I was afraid that the mule would get sick, so I didn't dare let it get wet outside.

It was not enough to just give the mule a straw hat, Jiang Yue also hid it under a "small house" made of old mats. If the cave wasn't too small, it would probably have followed him in to live.

Jiang Nian snorted. According to him, one shouldn't be so nice to the mule. What's wrong with the animal getting a little wet in the rain?

Mule: Don’t ride on me next time. I’m weak.

The rain was drizzling down. Jiang Nian thought the raincoat was too heavy, so he didn't wear it. Now his shoulders were wet.

It’s better to go back early. If Yueyue sees it, she will be angry at him for not taking care of his body.

Suddenly, Jiang Nian's ears twitched slightly, he stopped what he was doing, then slowly turned around and stared at the person who came in coldly.
