Li Guang looked at Ge Kaishan and said:
"General Ge, have you ever heard of that Taoist priest somewhere in Mabu Mountain?"
"I really don't know that. I've only heard that there's a Taoist priest in Mabu Mountain who's kind and generous, but I didn't realize that Mabu Mountain is such a vast area. I don't know where to look for him." Ge Kaishan seemed a little anxious.
Zhao Xian thought for a moment and then said:
"Since this person is charitable and often helps the poor, he must have cultivated a lot of land to have enough food to give to others. If we find a place with a large amount of land, we may be able to find this Taoist priest."
Zhao Xian's words made some sense, so we should go and find the fields in the mountains, or find inhabited villages, to inquire about the Taoist's whereabouts.
And so, the group began their search in the Mabushan area. But the area was too vast; even a month would not be enough to explore it all.
The group was surprised to encounter such a situation. The area was sparsely populated, and they had finally met a passerby, so they quickly went up to ask for directions.
The passerby said that he had lived here for many years and did not know that there was such a Taoist priest on Mabu Mountain. They must have made a mistake.
Receiving such a reply left Ge Kaishan extremely embarrassed. How could this be? There were clearly people in the village who had said the same thing, and more than one at that. What was going on?
Li Guang and his companions trusted him so much that they traveled thousands of miles to Mabushan to help him find Yelü Khan, but upon arriving there, they found nothing.
"General Ge, don't be anxious. People who live here may never leave Mabushan in their entire lives. The area is too vast, and even the locals may not be clear about the situation here."
"We must continue our search. Perhaps by asking a few more people, we can find out where that Taoist priest is," Zhao Xian comforted him.
Ge Kaishan nodded. He couldn't be discouraged. Everything had just begun, and he had to stay calm.
The group continued their search, and around noon they decided to stop and get something to eat before continuing their search in the afternoon.
As they were about to sit down and rest, they heard a gong sound, and dozens of henchmen rushed out from the nearby mountain, surrounding them in a flash.
The group quickly stood up. They hadn't expected there to be bandits here. The area was sparsely populated, and they hadn't encountered a single passerby for days. It seemed that the bandits were also having a hard time.
Just when I was worried about not being able to find anyone to ask for directions, the sudden appearance of so many bandits was a good thing. They should be very familiar with this area, so I could ask them for directions.
Dealing with these bandits is no problem at all, so there's no need to panic.
Just as Li Guang was about to step forward, Zhao Xian pulled him back, and Li Guang took a step back.
Zhao Xian took a few steps forward and looked at the bandits in front of him. He found that these bandits were all rather thin and pale, unlike the bandits in the Central Plains, who were all fat and strong.
Zhao Xian couldn't help but feel a little sympathy for these bandits. Two or three of them were dressed differently from the others, and they must have been the bandits' leaders.
Zhao Xian approached the squad leader, cupped his hands in greeting, and said:
"Gentlemen, we are all merchants. We are here on orders from our master to take care of some business at Mabu Mountain. We would appreciate your help. We left in a hurry and did not bring much money with us. This little bit of money is our way of showing our respect to you."
After Zhao Xian finished speaking, he took out a money bag from his bag and threw it over.
