The child, though not shy, smiled and revealed two dimples. "Sister, school costs money, so sometimes I secretly listen in from outside. The teacher doesn't chase me away, but some students do."
"Do you like going to school?" Lan Yamei asked.
"I like it! But going to school not only costs money, but I can't help Grandpa either. I don't want to go to school anymore." Guided by Lan Yamei, the child finally spoke her mind. Books say that at home one obeys one's father, and after marriage one obeys one's husband. But this Lan Yamei has neither a father nor a husband, so she listens to herself, and she lives a happier life than other women!
Some new ideas had already begun to sprout in my mind.
"Don't worry, Grandpa will still come to your shop to sell tofu pudding. There are so many aunties in the shop who will help him. You have to go to school. Only by reading more books and understanding more principles can you achieve greater things and help more people in the future. Are you willing?" Lan Yamei saw that this child was intelligent and good at helping Grandpa with accounting and writing. She really couldn't bear to waste her life and let her take over Grandpa's business of selling tofu pudding.
The little boy didn't dare to agree immediately. He only glanced at his grandfather before burying his head and remaining silent.
The old man rubbed his hands and said, "I will definitely send him to the teacher right away so as not to delay his studies."
Upon hearing this, the child's eyes lit up, and she said with a beaming smile, "Sister, I wrote a poem myself, and I'll recite it to you."
"Great!" Lan Yamei had never seen an ancient person compose poetry in person.
"When I was young, I didn't know the moon and called it a white jade plate. I also suspected it was a mirror from the Jade Terrace, flying in the blue clouds."
………
Lan Yamei's heart exploded. She trembled and couldn't open her mouth. She couldn't believe that the child in front of her was actually the famous poet in history. She quickly said, "Uncle, this child will surely rise to prominence and serve you well. You must nurture him well! Remember what I said."
When the old man returned home, he was restless and couldn't eat or sleep. He immediately rummaged through his drawers and took out his savings for his funeral, which he had kept hidden away. He put the savings in his pocket, took his grandson's hand, and walked towards the Confucius School.
