Lan Yamei broke free from Qiu Zeyu's embrace. "So, is there anything you want to say to me?"
Having witnessed too many fleeting, superficial relationships, a modern person like me feels uncertain. This is why Lan Yamei dared not fall in love before her time travel. The book says that love in the past was simple and devoted because letters were slow, and a lifetime was only enough to love one person. This sparked Lan Yamei's idea of dating someone from ancient times. And then, by sheer coincidence, she met Qiu Zeyu; having a proper, ancient romance didn't seem so bad after all.
"Yes!" Qiu Zeyu looked into Lan Yamei's eyes and said with utmost sincerity, "I have never loved you as much as I do now! I have never felt so much heartache for you! No matter who you are or how many secrets you have, loving you has nothing to do with who you are. Perhaps you have flaws, but in my eyes you are perfect, and I cannot see your flaws. Time may separate us, but my love for you will last until death."
The two embraced tightly, and by the firelight, they slowly kissed, reluctant to part.
Although Zhao Zhicheng was inside the space, he could hear everything happening outside. At first, it was fine, but when he heard the sound of kissing, he couldn't help but enviously shout in the space, "They're still showing off their love! Can't they consider my feelings! Oh... poor me, a prisoner, nobody cares about me, nobody loves me."
If Zhao Zhicheng hadn't complained, it's hard to say what might have happened tonight. Although Qiu Zeyu couldn't hear, Lan Yamei was awkward, as if she were watching a live broadcast. Hearing Zhao Zhicheng's complaint, she reluctantly and somewhat awkwardly pushed Qiu Zeyu away, saying, "Someone's watching, it's awkward, no, no."
Qiu Zeyu put his arm around her shoulder, listened cautiously to the surroundings, shook his head and said, "Don't worry about being with me, there's no one else around."
Lan Yamei pointed to the sky, "Zhao Zhicheng is here."
"Ah!" Qiu Zeyu exclaimed in surprise, "He's in the sky?"
So Lan Yamei recounted what had happened in the past few days. Although she couldn't explain the space, there was indeed a space, and Zhao Zhicheng had been imprisoned inside it.
Qiu Zeyu understood and quickly said, "Quickly ask him if he can see?" He was really worried that the kid might see something he shouldn't have because of the convenience of the space.
Lan Ya Mei shook her head, "I can't see, but I can hear."
At this moment, Zhao Zhicheng spoke up, "Lan girl, I've noticed something. Why has this space gotten smaller? I was playing basketball in here yesterday, but today there's not enough room. The place where we used to store rice has also mysteriously disappeared. What's going on?"
Lan Yamei felt a pang of panic upon hearing this, but she couldn't understand why the space was shrinking. This was a serious matter and needed to be addressed immediately, so she clutched her stomach and said to Qiu Zeyu, "You stay by the fire, I'm going to relieve myself over there. You can't come with me."
She couldn't do the "disappearing person" trick in front of people; it was too frightening.
Qiu Zeyu looked at the dark night sky, picked up a torch from the fire, and handed it to her. "Take this."
Lan Yamei pushed it away, saying, "I'm going to the restroom. What privacy is there if I take this with me?"
Qiu Zeyu gave an awkward smile, threw the torch back into the fire, and quickly turned around.
Lan Yamei quickly walked outside, found a haystack, and disappeared in a flash.
Inside the space, Zhao Zhicheng was exercising with the dumbbells when he saw Lan Yamei come in. He teased her, "Next time you come in, you should let me know first. It would be so embarrassing if I wasn't available."
"Tch! I wouldn't bother peeking at you." With that, Lan Yamei started checking the whole place and found that the entire oil and grain section was gone. The mountain of rice bags and the rows of high-quality oil, along with the shelves and the space, had all vanished without a trace.
"When did you find out?" Lan Yamei asked anxiously. She hadn't figured out how to use this space yet, and it was already shrinking, which made her vaguely uneasy. She tried to think of the best-case scenario quickly: maybe the space was connected to the future, and it was sold out? Or maybe it was taken down!
But that doesn't make sense. These chain warehouse supermarkets would never remove grains and oils from their shelves, let alone sell them all out. There must be something wrong.
"After you took some things from my space today, I read some comic books for a while, but I was so bored that I fell asleep. When I woke up, I wanted to find something to eat, but I had a vague feeling that something was missing. But the supermarket was too big, and I didn't notice it at first. Just now, I was about to go to the toilet and I should have passed by the oil and grain section, but I didn't see it. That's when I realized that something was missing from my space."
"It seems this space is unstable; it must be related to what I took. I took medicine and pastries today! Come with me to see the pastry section and the medicine section." Lan Yamei dared not think any further.
Zhao Zhicheng also felt a sense of urgency. After the two of them had searched the entire supermarket, they still couldn't find the medicine section or the pastry section.
The two stared at each other, dumbfounded. Both were filled with the same terrifying thought, and exclaimed in unison, "Could it be that if something is taken out, everything here will disappear?"
"Let's take another look at the handicrafts. I took the sword, dagger, and elastic rope today." Lan Yamei felt a chill run down her spine.
Sure enough, the familiar craft and general merchandise section has disappeared.
Zhao Zhicheng panicked then, "So, if anything else is taken out, the space will shrink again. What am I going to do? I'm inside."
Lan Yamei was in a complete mess, stomped her foot, and wished she could chop off her own hand. The space had shrunk by a fifth just because she had carelessly taken things out. And she hadn't even found a way to rescue Zhao Zhicheng yet; she didn't want to imagine what would happen if the space shrank any further.
So she first comforted him, "Don't worry, let me think of a way to get you out of here."
Zhao Zhicheng picked up a packing bag and said hurriedly, "I'll crawl in, and you pull me out. Let's see."
Lan Yamei was also afraid that this unstable space might pose a threat to Zhao Zhicheng's life, so she could only nod and give it a try.
Zhao Zhicheng quickly crawled into the luggage bag. As usual, Lan Yamei carried the bag in one hand while forcing herself to concentrate. When she opened her eyes again, she was back in the wilderness, but the bag in her hand was empty. Zhao Zhicheng had not returned.
Just as Lan Yamei was about to go back inside, Qiu Zeyu called out from the fireside, "Girl, are you there?"
"I'm here. My stomach hurts a little. Wait for me a bit, I'll be right there." After saying that, she plunged back into the space.
Zhao Zhicheng was sitting dejectedly in the space. He saw Lan Yamei and said, "It seems I'm not going to get out."
"Don't worry, I'm sure I can think of a solution. I just got some cola, soda water, and two sausages. I need to check if it will have any effect." Lan Yamei said and ran off.
Just as predicted, the soda water completely disappeared; not a single bottle remained. The cola and sausages met the same fate.
Zhao Zhicheng followed and saw everything, but remained silent.
"Hang in there a little longer, I'll think of something as soon as possible."
After leaving the space and returning to the wilderness, Lan Yamei composed herself before slowly walking towards the campfire.
