As the rooster crowed, the two restored the old house to its original state, thus fulfilling a wish in the midst of alcohol. If one day they were to leave quietly like Zhao Zhicheng, they would have no regrets.
Lan Yamei thought of the original owner's father. Although they had never lived together, she still wanted to go and pay her respects.
Although Qiu Zeyu didn't know what was going on, he still felt that she was acting strangely today.
Lan Ping'an passed away and his remains were never found. Only a cenotaph was built for him, and he was buried in a field. The two of them went straight to the cemetery.
The grass on the grave had long since turned yellow, and the tombstone read "Tomb of Lan Ping'an," simple and unadorned.
Lan Yamei took out wine and incense from her spatial storage, bowed, and said, "Father, your daughter is unfilial and rarely comes to see you. Please forgive me."
Qiu Zeyu knelt down as well, saying, "Senior Brother, I'm entrusting Lan girl to you. I will treat her well for the rest of my life." He then kowtowed and offered a toast in one smooth motion.
After the two finished their prayers, on their way back to the city, they happened to run into Menglan and several of her employees delivering vegetables to the restaurant, and they traveled together.
"Menglan, thank you for your hard work these days! The vegetables you sent were all very fresh and timely." Lan Yamei chatted casually.
"Shopkeeper Lan, you're too kind. I'm more than grateful to do business with you! Your business is booming, and I'm benefiting too. Now the villagers have hope. They don't have to worry about selling their meat and vegetables, and the price you offer is even higher than the market price. Everyone appreciates your kindness. To increase their income, Uncle Li's family dug a lotus pond. They'll plant lotus roots in the spring, and the flowers will be beautiful in the summer. Come back to the village for a visit when you have time."
"Okay, I'll definitely go if I have the chance."
As they were talking, a carriage came up from behind, and everyone moved aside to make way for the main road.
The carriage sped along, kicking up a cloud of dust, and came to a sudden stop beside the crowd. The curtain was lifted, and a dignified and beautiful young woman stepped out. She said to Qiu Zeyu, "Young Master, there is an urgent matter at home, and I have been specially sent to find you."
Qiu Zeyu was surprised to find the head maid of the house had come. She was his mother's personal maid. A bad feeling made him ask anxiously, "What happened at home?"
"Young Master, please come back with me and take a look. It's not something that can be explained in a few words."
Qiu Zeyu didn't have time to say goodbye. He took the reins from Menglan, mounted his horse, and said to Lan Yamei, "I'll be right back. Wait for me."
He turned his horse around and rode away quickly.
The girl's expression turned serious. She nodded to the crowd, hurriedly jumped into the carriage, and chased after them.
Lan Yamei lost interest in chatting and, watching Qiu Zeyu's receding figure, could only return to the shop first.
Back at the shop, Zhang Song had already arrived. The two went upstairs, and Zhang Song said mysteriously, "Sister, get me some more food. I'm craving something."
"Okay, come with me."
After closing the door, Lan Yamei asked, "What do you want to eat this time?"
"First, a cup of milk tea, then some hot pot. I'm really craving it."
As Lan Yamei took things out of her space, she fiddled with the quick hot pot stove, lit the flames, and put a piece of hot pot base into the pot. Soon, a spicy and fragrant aroma rose up.
Zhang Song took a deep breath of the spicy air and said, "This is the taste! It's making my mouth water! It smells so good! I wish I could drink all this chili oil. Tell me, how unfair is that, you have this special ability? Quick, quick, a milk tea, a large one with ice!"
Lan Yamei was about to grab some when she realized she didn't have any. "How about coffee? Iced coffee. No milk tea!"
"Coffee is fine, and bring a carton of milk too, I'll mix it myself."
Lan Yamei took out the food one by one, and only after Zhang Song started cooking in the hot pot did she realize why Zhao Zhicheng hadn't said anything. So she said to Zhang Song, "You eat first, don't open the door, I'll go in and check on him."
He flashed into the space, but Zhang Song was already used to it and just buried himself in his food.
Inside, the blanket Zhao Zhicheng usually slept on was empty. A wooden box that had been brought in lay on the floor, and two medical books were scattered haphazardly to one side. A bad feeling crept into his mind—could it be…?
They quickly searched the inside and called out, but there was no response.
Returning to the medical book, Lan Yamei noticed an unfinished line on the open page: "It seems my time to leave has come. My body is almost gone too. I can only huddle in this blanket, unable to move or speak. Goodbye, friend. I remember your name, Li Xiulan, if I live..."
The next part is unfinished writing, and it's unclear what it says.
Suddenly, Lan Yamei felt a wave of dizziness, and the entire space began to shake violently. The items on the shelves seemed to lose their gravity and began to fly up, followed by the shelves and then the floor tiles. Lan Yamei herself floated up slowly like a balloon, her head throbbing and the world spinning around her.
With a loud bang, Lan Yamei was thrown out of the space, along with the box of medical books that landed on the ground.
"Damn it!" Zhang Song cursed.
The chopsticks I was holding were gone, the half-finished coffee had vanished, and even the hot pot that had been bubbling away just moments before seemed to have never existed.
This simultaneous occurrence startled the two of them.
Immediately afterward, before Lan Yamei could even get up, she saw that Zhang Song's legs had disappeared, and his whole body seemed to be floating in the air.
Zhang Song also covered his mouth, pointing at Lan Yamei, unable to speak, because he saw that Lan Yamei's legs were also disappearing, and half of her body was hanging in the air, which was very strange.
Neither of them had a chance to utter a sound before they gradually dissipated into the air, leaving no trace.
When she traveled backward through the space tunnel, her entire soul felt like it was in a meat grinder. In the excruciating pain, she slowly lost all consciousness. A piercing electric current jolted Lan Yamei awake from her hospital bed.
She found herself lying in a hospital room, surrounded by various monitoring devices. As Lan Yamei opened her eyes, the doctor exclaimed in surprise, "She's alive! She's alive!"
