"Stop joking with me, tell me, what are you doing here?" Lan Yamei tried to hide her embarrassment at being found out and deliberately changed the subject.
"I was worried about being too busy at the shop, so I rushed back as soon as I finished my chores at home. How's the shop been lately?" Qiu Zeyu wasn't jealous all the time; just seeing this girl made him feel that life was interesting again. It was worth escaping his family's arranged marriage and running away.
So Lan Yamei recounted everything that had happened at the shop, including the near-defeat in court. Qiu Zeyu listened, then just chuckled and said casually, "Leave this to me, you don't need to worry about it. Just focus on running the shop well; you still owe me money!"
"But we can't produce any evidence at all, what can you do?" Lan Yamei really couldn't think of any way he could do anything.
“I have my own way! I can’t say now, or it won’t work. By the way, where did you guys rush off to just now?” Qiu Zeyu asked.
“Murong Bai is in trouble, and I’ve come to inform his brother. After all, he’s from the Murong family, and if only our shop’s people go there, things could get complicated. We don’t even know if we can make it in time if we rush over now,” Lan Ya Mei explained her concerns.
Qiu Zeyu found this little girl interesting. After listening, he pinched his lower lip with two fingers and whistled loudly. A reddish-brown horse galloped out from the depths of the dense forest. Qiu Zeyu mounted the horse and then stretched out his hand to Lan Yamei, saying, "Want to come with me and take a look?"
It would be strange if Lan Yamei didn't want to watch the assassination attempt, as it was her first time encountering such a grand scene. She hesitated because they would be riding together, but curiosity prevailed, and she took Qiu Zeyu's hand. This man looked refined and cultured, but his hands were slender yet strong; with a simple lift, he effortlessly mounted the horse, reigniting Lan Yamei's strong interest in ancient martial arts.
"Sit tight." Qiu Zeyu only pulled the reins, and the horse galloped off, the two of them chasing after Murong Xingchen.
Because they were so close, Qiu Zeyu also emitted a different, pleasant scent, like the fresh fragrance of soapberry. It was different from Murong Xingchen's sweet scent, but still very pleasant. Thinking of this, he couldn't help but blush. These ancient men were just too wonderful!
Qiu Zeyu noticed the girl's little thoughts and grinned.
The saddle was as hard as a horse's. Just as Lan Yamei was about to hug the horse's neck to ease her legs, Qiu Zeyu's large hand wrapped around her waist. With a gentle lift, she immediately felt her buttocks leave the horse's back, and the pain was gone. However, this intimate action made Lan Yamei feel awkward, and she said in an embarrassed whisper, "Put me down."
"If you want to walk properly tomorrow, shut up," Qiu Zeyu said domineeringly, without letting go. This was indeed much easier, so he had no choice but to obediently shut up, thinking that no one saw him anyway, so who cared?
The horse's speed didn't slow down, but Qiu Zeyu's face turned a little red, thankfully the little girl couldn't see it.
When the two arrived, a fierce battle raged in the villa, with swords flashing and spears flying.
"Stay put!" Qiu Zeyu shouted, jumping off his horse to join the fray. Lan Yamei obediently followed his orders, but her heart was pounding, knowing that Aunt Guan was still inside.
A moment later, the fighting inside stopped. Pushing open the door, they saw corpses scattered everywhere. Qiu Zeyu and Murong Xingchen emerged one after the other, their clothes clean. Behind them were the two Tie Tou brothers, supporting each other, their bodies covered in bloody cuts.
Lan Ya Mei quickly jumped off her horse, her head buzzing, and asked, "Where's Aunt Guan?"
Just then, a panicked head popped out of a vat that was more than a meter tall in the yard and said, "I'm here."
"You scared me to death! Are you alright?" Lan Yamei helped Aunt Guan out of the vat and looked her over from head to toe.
"It's nothing, I just didn't see Murong Bai and fell into their ambush. I don't know kung fu, so I hid first." Aunt Guan stepped out of the vat, patted off the ashes, and saw the two men who were almost covered in blood. She called out, "Tie Tou, you two... quick, quick, don't move." She quickly applied medicine and bandaged the two brothers.
"You've worked hard!" Qiu Zeyu patted the two brothers on the shoulders and said.
This was the first time that Master Qiu had spoken to the two brothers in such a down-to-earth manner, which brought tears to the eyes of the two brothers, Tie Tou. It was as if they had become closer to the master and were no longer petty thieves. Somewhat embarrassed, they said, "It's just a minor injury, nothing serious. It's just that our martial arts skills are a bit lacking."
"As long as you are willing to learn, I will take some time to help you improve your skills in the future." Qiu Zeyu could see that these young brothers were sincere in wanting to join his school, and he intended to mentor them.
The group searched the area within two kilometers of the villa again, but apart from the six corpses, they found no trace of Murong Bai.
"Butterfly clearly said it was about to die, so why is there no sign of it? What's going on?" Lan Yamei was completely baffled. How far could a seriously injured person run?
"I'm not quite sure. When we arrived, the house was quiet, and we thought Young Master Murong was already dead. We were so anxious to save him that we rushed in and were immediately surrounded by people lying in ambush. We couldn't explain ourselves, and a fight broke out. Luckily, you arrived in time," Tie Tou said, leaning against the doorframe and clutching the knife wound on his arm.
The men in black were all killed, and the trail went cold again.
Although Murong Xingchen was disappointed, she still politely clasped her hands in thanks to everyone, saying, "Thank you all for your righteous help. I thank you on behalf of my brother. Since he's not here, I'll take my leave now." With that, she turned to leave.
"Young Master Murong and his brother are definitely not from the same mother! Their search for people is just a perfunctory job. There's a spring over there; maybe it has some clues? Why doesn't Young Master Murong go into the water and look for it?" Qiu Zeyu said with a roguish grin.
Lan Yamei thought Qiu Zeyu was being nosy; at a time when life and death were at stake, he was still saying such things.
"Who are you?" Murong Xingchen asked.
Because he was well protected by his mother, Murong Xingchen didn't associate with people in the martial arts world. Moreover, his father focused on cultivating his eldest son, and this illegitimate son was often forgotten, rarely involved in family affairs. Therefore, he had no idea of Qiu Zeyu's reputation in the martial arts world. He only felt that the white-robed young man he had just seen was incredibly skilled, surpassing even himself.
"Who I am is not important. What's important is that the rumors about Young Master Murong's discord with my brother seem to have some truth to them," Qiu Zeyu said with his usual roguish air.
"You're talking nonsense! There were people hiding at the bottom of the lake, and they've probably drowned by now. Aren't you just spouting nonsense?" Murong Xingchen explained somewhat displeased.
"Why don't we go down and take a look? When it comes to rescuing people, we can't overlook any suspicious places, right?" Qiu Zeyu said, then sat down to watch the show.
Murong Xingchen hesitated, his cheeks puffed out, but quickly removed his upper body clothing and shoes, revealing his beautifully defined muscles, which made Lan Ya Mei swoon. What does it mean to look slim in clothes but muscular underneath? This is it! What a great figure!
Murong Xingchen walked to the spring and plunged into the lake.
Just as Lan Yamei was staring intently, Qiu Zeyu approached her without her noticing and whispered, "Looking so intently?"
Lan Ya Mei then realized that she hadn't even blinked, and was extremely embarrassed to have been seen through.
