When Lan Yamei excitedly presented a bowl of fish to the distinguished female guest, the guest was visibly moved. Lan Yamei observed silently and, seeing the expression, knew the guest's opinion of her was positive. She was about to leave so the guest could eat in peace.
The girl asked her, "Shopkeeper, where are you from?"
"Oh, I don't remember where my ancestors lived? As far as I can remember, I've lived here with my father since I was a child. My cooking skills are all family heirlooms. Young lady, please eat while it's hot. Call me if you need anything."
The round-faced girl didn't make things difficult for her. Clearly attracted by the delicious food in front of her, Lan Yamei turned around and went downstairs.
Qiu Zeyu still ate with great relish, having already finished almost the entire large bowl of fish.
Lan Yamei sat opposite him and asked, "Was that girl coming for you?"
"How could that be? I don't even know her." Qiu Zeyu vehemently denied it. After all, it's quite embarrassing for a man to be chased all over the world by a woman, so he deliberately poked at the fish in the bowl and said, "Want some more?"
"Tch, you can keep it a secret, but don't ask me for help later!" Lan Yamei said, then went to the bar to look at the ledger.
Butterfly's condition has stabilized considerably these past two days. She's been helping out at the shop calmly every day, though she still doesn't talk much. When Lan Ya came to check the accounts, she quickly pushed the ledgers towards her.
“I see that the wound on your face has healed a lot. We still need to ask Aunt Guan to prepare some more products for you, so that we can try our best to leave no scars at all.”
"I've really troubled you all during this time. I don't know how to repay you. If you hadn't taken me in, I probably would have died." Butterfly still wore a veil, and the handwriting on the ledger was very neat.
“We’re all men of the martial world, how could we stand by and watch someone die? Besides, Aunt Guan really cares about you. I’ve spent some time with you and I like you very much. Just treat this place as your home. I believe that once he’s out of danger, he will definitely come to this place to find you.”
"Uh-huh!"
Lan Ya Mei flipped through the ledger haphazardly, and seeing the huge daily turnover, she felt a surge of satisfaction. I glanced at Qiu Zeyu, who was still eating heartily, and muttered to myself, "Something feels off, I can't quite put my finger on it."
"Hehehe, I think you've fallen for that young master." Butterfly was in a good mood and teased Blue Girl.
“Him? How could that be? Absolutely not.” Closing the ledger, she said, “You’re busy, you’re busy, Butterfly.”
Just then, a commotion came from outside the door.
"Aren't you the legendary miracle doctor? What's wrong? You have to choose your patients? I'm afraid you don't have much real skill!"
"Exactly, exactly. They even claim to be the world's best doctor, but I think they're just trying to scam people out of their money."
…
Judging from the direction of the sound, it seemed that something had happened at the clinic, so Lan Yamei ran out in a few steps.
Three burly men dressed as farmers were seen carrying a nearly dying patient, blocking the entrance of the clinic and causing trouble.
Only the father and son from the Deli Massage Shop and Grandpa Ouyang were at the door. Tie Niu had somehow already picked up a stool, ready to protect the clinic at any time.
Lan Yamei came over, and everyone made way for her.
The burly man, seeing that the person in charge was a young, blond-haired girl, looked down on her. He yelled at her, "You're in charge, right? Give me a straight answer: can you admit this patient? Can you cure him?"
"Our clinic is dedicated to healing and saving lives! We can cure any illness, but we have no way to treat the dead! If you want us to bring the dead back to life, you've come to the wrong place!"
Upon hearing this, a commotion arose in the crowd. "Dead?" "He's dead!" murmurs rippled through the crowd, and everyone quickly took a step back, considering it bad luck.
"Nonsense! Can't you see he's still breathing?" the burly farmers retorted.
Looking at the person lying on the stretcher, it seemed as if he had never moved. You couldn't even see the slight tremor of his nostrils as he breathed, and his lips were gradually turning white and blue.
"Let me see, let me see," Granny Guan said from behind the crowd. The crowd made way for Granny Guan to come in, but Granny Guan only glanced at him before shaking her head and saying, "Brothers, you should go home and make your funeral arrangements! If I'm not mistaken, this brother of yours has been dead for half an hour."
"Brothers, put him down! Since he dares to call himself the number one doctor in the world, he must cure my brother no matter what. Let's go." The troublemakers didn't even bother with him. They abandoned the patient and squeezed out of the crowd to run away.
The old man cupped his hands in greeting to the crowd and said, "If everyone is alright, please disperse!"
After everyone dispersed, they all stared at the dead man with a sense of unease. Lan Yamei turned around and realized that Qiu Zeyu was nowhere to be found. She cursed him inwardly, thinking, "What a cowardly coward who doesn't say a word."
Grandpa Ouyang remained calm and said to Tie Tou, "Go report to the authorities."
Sure enough, smoothing things over worked; the person arrived very quickly.
After the constables arrived and investigated the situation, they carried the dead body away. When everyone returned to the clinic, all the patients who had come for treatment had fled. Granny Guan sighed and said, "If this continues, with people coming to cause trouble every few days, I think the clinic might not be able to stay open."
"Who would deliberately cause us trouble?" Lan Yamei wondered, while a suspect came to mind.
The only person who's ever been looking down on me since I came here is Hua Yuhe, isn't she? My fellow restaurant owners may be annoyed, but none of them have the guts to do this.
…
Qiu Zeyu had been secretly following them. When he saw them reach a deserted area in the wilderness, he immediately took off his tattered clothes, revealing his fine attire, and walked arm in arm with them toward a post station.
…
Aunt Guan wasn't worried at all, saying, "If you're upright, you have nothing to fear. Let's just do what we need to do."
