Chapter 50 A Strange Encounter in Lin'an

Qiu Zeyu was worried about Lan Yamei going alone, so he ordered Tie Tou to take good care of the shop and personally accompanied Lan Yamei on horseback to Lin'an. Their destination was Futianmen Pharmacy, the largest pharmacy in Lin'an. It had a complete range of high-quality goods and was the first choice for many doctors.

This was the first time the two had traveled a long distance alone. Although they each rode a horse, Qiu Zeyu's joy was impossible to hide.

The two rode their horses at varying speeds, sometimes urging them on and sometimes slowing them down, moving with a carefree and leisurely air.

Passing through a dense forest, the woods were full of fallen leaves, a withered yellow, creating a unique scene.

Lan Yamei's horseback riding skills are now impeccable. When they arrived here, they were captivated by the beautiful scenery and began to travel slowly. In any case, they would be in Lin'an in three or five miles. Once they had prepared the medicinal herbs, they would just have to wait for the Futianmen Pharmacy to deliver them to their door in a large cart, and then the matter would be settled.

As the horse's hooves crunched on the fallen leaves, Qiu Zeyu asked cheerfully, "What are your plans after you've made a lot of money?"

A rare moment of relaxation, though just a withered autumn leaf, not as beautiful as the ginkgo trees at Ci'en Temple, is enough to soothe my homesickness.

No matter how good this era is, it can't compare to the era we live in: the rule of law, democracy, unity, and friendship.

This era makes it impossible for me to love it, so I blurted out, "I don't know if I can go back, but I want to go back the most."

"Going back where? Your hometown?" Qiu Zeyu patted the horse, moved closer, and listened carefully to every word.

“Yes! My hometown.” Lan Yamei smiled at Qiu Zeyu, spurred her horse forward, and turned to say, “Let’s have a horse race. The loser treats us to dinner.”

"Okay!" Qiu Zeyu quickly caught up with him.

In terms of horsemanship, Lan Ya Mei was naturally no match for her master, but Qiu Ze Yu deliberately lagged behind. The two entered Lin'an City one after the other, and before a winner could be determined, they spotted Murong Xing Chen.

Murong Xingchen still shone brightly in the crowd, his posture upright and his looks stunning. He was just coming out of an unnamed house when the door was immediately slammed shut from the inside, obscuring the view inside and adding to the mystery.

In this situation, the two did not rush forward to greet each other, but instead stood at a distance and watched.

Murong Xingchen frowned, looking worried, and didn't notice the two people in the distance. He left the house, mounted the horse parked at the gate, and rode out of Lin'an City.

Although the two had their doubts, they did not linger. They went straight to the Futianmen Pharmacy to take care of their important business.

The young Lan Ya Mei was no longer the poor, scrawny girl she once was. Now, she rode a tall horse, accompanied by a handsome young man. The pharmacy owner, naturally, wouldn't neglect her, and the two cooperated smoothly. The owner promised to check the quantity and ship the goods that day.

Having finished their business, the two planned to stroll around Lin'an City, sample some local delicacies, and then head back. Having only visited a few times in a rush, they felt completely unfamiliar with Lin'an.

Unexpectedly, they encountered Murong Xingchen returning to the same nameless house. This time, the two chased after him without a second thought.

"Murong Xingchen, what are you busy with? I haven't seen you for several days. You've come to Lin'an too?" Lan Yamei led her horse and greeted them loudly.

With a heavy heart, Murong Xingchen turned around and saw two familiar faces. She responded politely, "What are you doing in Lin'an?"

"Come and get some medicinal herbs for Aunt Guan's clinic! What are you doing here? Do you have a villa here?" Lan Yamei asked, pointing to the house.

“Well,” Murong Xingchen hesitated for a moment, then changed the subject and asked, “How is Lanlan? I haven’t been to see her for several days. I’ve been busy with some official business these past few days and haven’t been able to spare the time.”

"She's doing great! Aunt Guan takes care of her personally every day, and she can already turn over. I think it won't be long before she's as lively and energetic as a normal girl. Of course, the progress of her condition is a secret; it hasn't been told to anyone." Although Lan Yamei enjoyed talking to him, his polite distance made her less enthusiastic. After speaking, she gave a polite smile.

Qiu Zeyu noticed Lan Yamei's disappointment, suddenly grabbed her hand, and said to Murong Xingchen, "You're busy, we're going to get some snacks." Then he pulled Lan Yamei's hand and left.

Murong Xingchen suddenly raised his hand to stop him, and said hesitantly, "Wait, Master Qiu."

Lan Yamei's heart tightened. Was he jealous?

Murong Xingchen then said, "Hero Qiu, please wait for me at the Sifang Teahouse. I have important matters to discuss with you. I will be right back."

"No time!" Qiu Zeyu coldly refused, but he held onto Lan Yamei's hand tightly, turning his head to ask with feigned affection, "Girl, what do you want to eat?"

Murong Xingchen felt somewhat embarrassed. Qiu Zeyu was indeed aloof and arrogant, not getting close to anyone. She could only give up and think of another way later, then turned and went into the house.

Overwhelmed with curiosity, Lan Yamei asked, "What exactly does he want to discuss with you?"

"Who cares? If he really wants help, he'll come back to me. Let's go eat first. You won the horse race today, so it's on me. Tell me, what do you want to eat?"

Once they were out of Murong Xingchen's sight, Lan Yamei said shyly, "How much longer are you going to hold on? Shouldn't you let go?"

"Dislike it? Why didn't you let go sooner?" He then released his grip.

Qiu Zeyu had lost his appetite for snacks and said with a displeased expression, "The important business for today is finished. Since it's still early, I'm going to visit an old friend. You can go with the delivery truck from Futianmen Pharmacy, or you can go back first." After saying that, he mounted his horse and left.

"Sigh..." Lan Yamei was speechless for a moment. She knew it was wrong of her to kick someone after they had done their bidding, but she couldn't bring herself to apologize. So she could only lead her horse to wherever the place was most prosperous.

The houses in Lin'an were more imposing than those in Longyang Town, and the streets were wider and more bustling, with more merchants coming and going. Lan Yamei suddenly wondered why Hua Yuhe stayed in Longyang Town and refused to develop her business in Lin'an. According to her, this was a much wider world for her.
