Chapter 70 The Cicada Sheds Its Shell

“That’s right!” Lan Yamei explained, “Now, in this Taoist temple, you can only be the good guy. Although healing the sick and saving lives is a good deed, after you’re busy all day, you still have to clean up the messes caused by that vain Taoist at night. Aren’t you tired?”

Zhao Zhicheng was moved, his brows furrowed, and he wavered.

Lan Yamei continued, "Now that you are famous, even people from the palace come to you for treatment. What will you do if the emperor comes to you for treatment one day? What will you say if he asks you who your medical teacher was?"

Zhao Zhicheng's brows furrowed even more; he truly couldn't put his words into words. Right now, it was merely a small test at Mount Shura, yet he had already gained widespread fame, with patients flocking to him. If this momentum continued, being selected as a royal physician was only a matter of time.

"In your Taoist temple, you can do whatever you want? Whether it's the patients seeking medical help or your young Taoist disciples, they all highly respect and admire you! But can you really make these surgical instruments public? Aren't you tired of wasting your breath explaining? Why not take this opportunity to keep your merits and fame hidden, withdraw from the Asura Path, and just tell everyone that the person is gone?" Lan Yamei's words were very pertinent and without any selfish motives.

The main reason I wanted to help Zhao Zhicheng was that he was from the same hometown and might be a companion who could help me find my way back.

Looking at the two of them, Zhao Zhicheng had already made up his mind. He had considered what Lan Yamei had said.

An outsider, a time traveler, managed to become a renowned physician in just three years! He was admired and had a great reputation! This was a miracle he had never created in modern society. He was still very reluctant to give up his life of anonymity, and said with some hesitation, "All I know is how to treat and save lives. If I don't stay in this Taoist temple, where else can I go?"

Qiu Zeyu understood Zhao Zhicheng perfectly; his reputation was his livelihood. Just like himself, without Qiu Ming Manor behind him, he would have been much more restrained in his actions. Now, with Lan Yamei urging him to leave, his hesitation and conflict were understandable.

He couldn't understand why Lan Yamei was doing this, but he trusted her and knew she must have her reasons. So he advised her, "Don't worry about having no friends on the road ahead. Who in the world doesn't know you? Brother Zhao, leave here. Once you've completely dealt with the False Proclaimer, you'll truly be yourself."

Hearing the chaotic sounds outside and feeling the aftershocks beneath her feet, Lan Yamei said urgently, "Don't hesitate, just burn it down. This place will be a place where no one can prove anything. Come with us, no one will know you there."

Qiu Zeyu nodded seriously, indicating his welcome.

Having said all that, Zhao Zhicheng finally made up his mind. Looking at the two of them, he nodded firmly and said, "Okay! Let's start over and be a truly good person."

Time was of the essence, so Lan Yamei quickly grabbed two handfuls of incense ash from the incense burner by the window and smeared it on Zhao Zhicheng's face. Qiu Zeyu quickly took off Zhao Zhicheng's white coat and pulled down a large gray curtain to drape it over him.

At this moment, Zhao Zhicheng was no longer the refined gentleman he once was; he looked exactly like a beggar fleeing a disaster.

I knocked over the candlestick and watched it gradually blaze brightly.

Taking advantage of the chaos, the three of them took the surgical instruments and escaped from the Shura Temple.

The Taoist temple was in complete disarray, and some cunning opportunists were scurrying around the rooms, looking furtive and sneaky.

The three of them hurried out. Once outside, they reached the cobblestone pedestrian street, which was now in complete chaos.

Some fled down the mountain for their lives; others cried out for their parents, at a loss for what to do; still others grabbed the shopkeeper and demanded an explanation!

At this moment, thick black smoke was billowing from the Taoist temple, and someone shouted, "Look, it looks like the Taoist temple is on fire!"

Immediately, everyone looked in that direction. By then, the raging fire had spread down the mountain, accompanied by billowing smoke. At this moment, everyone was like ants on a hot plate, only concerned with escaping, swarming down the mountain in a chaotic mass.

Lan Yamei and the other two didn't turn their heads, but blew a whistle one after the other, and two fine horses galloped out in response.

Qiu Zeyu carried Zhao Zhicheng on his back, while Bluetooth Girl rode alone, galloping down the mountain.

The road was bustling with people fleeing for their lives, and no one noticed the three of them.

Just as they were about to leave the territory managed by the Asura Temple, someone suddenly called out to Lan Yamei, "Hey, girl."

Lan Ya Mei turned around and saw that it was the uncle who bought her fish. The uncle was riding his horse uphill when they met face to face.

"It's you, Uncle! What are you doing here at this hour?" Lan Yamei slowed down, keeping a distance from Qiu Zeyu's horse, and politely greeted the man, "There's been an earthquake, why are you still going in? Shouldn't you be running for your life?"

The middle-aged man chuckled, completely unconcerned about the scene. "It's nothing, just a minor earthquake. Besides, I have official business to attend to and must get on with it quickly." He then pointed to the Taoist temple and asked, "You just came out of there? How is Master Xuyu?"

Looking up the mountain from this spot, you can't see the firelight, only faint wisps of smoke.

When the other party mentioned the Taoist Master Xu Yu, Lan Yamei said warily, "I haven't even seen him! I was just going there to seek medical advice when the earthquake suddenly struck, and now I'm just running for my life with everyone else. I advise you not to rush up either; what's the point of doing anything at a time like this!"

"No problem, no problem!" The steward pointed in the direction of the mountain and said, "My master is still up there, so I won't delay any longer. See you later." After saying that, he clasped his hands in a fist salute, spurred his horse, and charged uphill against the flow of people.

"See you later!" Lan Yamei said, and quickly rode off to catch up with Qiu Zeyu.

The three men had horses and quickly escaped to a safe place. Seeing that no one was following them and there was no one around, they dared to dismount and rest.

This place is more than 20 miles away from the Taoist temple. Choosing to dismount and rest here was also to let Zhao Zhicheng take one last look at the place he had stayed. If nothing unexpected happens, he will not return to Shura Mountain.

Zhao Zhicheng stared blankly at Mount Shura, gazing at it silently, as if bidding farewell to the past, remaining motionless.

After seven or eight minutes, he suddenly turned around with a relaxed expression, and said with a rare smile, "These past years, Master Xuyu has been bothering me, but I never thought of completely severing ties with him. Now that he's gone, that's that! I don't feel it's a big deal. From today onwards, I am simply Zhao Zhicheng! My name is Zhao Zhicheng!"

Lan Yamei and Qiu Zeyu looked at Zhao Zhicheng with smiles, feeling from the bottom of their hearts that they had done a good deed.

Suddenly, Zhao Zhicheng pointed to the dry riverbed and sandy soil and said in surprise, "There used to be a river here, how did it dry up?"

"Is there a river?" Qiu Zeyu looked at the dry thatch and expressed great doubt.

“It really is!” Zhao Zhicheng said with absolute certainty. “In the past, in order to raise funds for the construction of the Taoist temple, I often went down the mountain to treat patients. I have crossed this river at least ten times.”
