Chapter 8 Skill and Courage

Tie Niu was stuck on the stool, unable to move. Despite his brute strength, he could only feign bravado. After struggling for a while, he was covered in sweat and panting heavily. He yelled at his followers, who had already lost their formation, "What are you waiting for? Attack them all!"

The boss rarely takes action, but when he does, he never fails to control the situation. Right now, he's pinned down under the chair like a fat fish, completely exhausted. Today was truly an eye-opening experience for Xiao Dao.

The strongest fighters had all been taken down, and the younger brothers could only surround Lan Ya Mei, not daring to rush forward easily.

Seeing how cowardly these kids were, Tie Niu angrily shouted, "Are you all fucking stupid? What are you standing there for?"

Seeing that the boss was really angry, he had no choice but to bite the bullet and start hitting Lan Yamei with his weapon.

There were two fights in three days, and this time there were many more people than last time, and they were all armed. Aunt Guan was sweating profusely and cursed inwardly, "That brat is willing to risk her life for money! All for two taels of silver."

Aunt Guan, who was hiding behind the grill, was trembling. When she saw that Lan Yatou was surrounded, she looked around, found a fire poker that was sparking, and tossed it to Lan Yatou.

Lan Yamei caught it with quick eyes and hands, and while there were still sparks, she directly applied eyeliner to the first little brother who rushed up. The burning sensation made him scream, and the other little brothers immediately became intimidated.

"Brothers, let's all attack together! It's not shameful! This woman knows kung fu!" Tie Niu urged as he struggled to break free.

Since they couldn't win one-on-one anyway, a bunch of brothers swarmed in.

Lan Yamei gripped the fire poker tightly, leaped into the air, kicked one person away, and then stood firmly on the ground, swinging the poker at the crowd.

They were all brutes with no real skills, and they were all knocked to the ground in less than twenty rounds in front of the martial arts expert, Lan Yamei.

Taking advantage of a moment, Tie Tou broke free from under the stool. Seeing the entire army suffer a crushing defeat, he stomped his foot, turned around, and ran away.

When the younger brothers saw their leader run away, they all scrambled to their feet and fled for their lives.

Lan Yamei grabbed the dirty silver bag, and the man didn't dare to resist. He dropped it and slunk away.

Only after Tie Niu and the others had run far away did the crowd erupt in enthusiastic applause. Lan Ya Mei handed the money bag to Aunt Guan, who was still in a daze, and said, "Give it back to everyone."

This earned another round of applause.

Lan Yamei waved her hand and said to the surrounding stall owners, "From now on, none of you should pay him protection money! The government hasn't asked us for money, so who does this Tie Niu think he is? Everyone can do business with peace of mind. If he dares to come again, I'll break his legs."

The surrounding stalls were run by poor people who couldn't afford the management fees and had come to the ghost market to do business. They were used to being bullied and could only endure it. This time, Lan Ya Mei had rid everyone of a menace and even got her money back, so everyone started patronizing Lan Ya Mei's barbecue business.

This is a good thing; Lan Ya Mei is practically giving it away for free.

I initially thought Lan Ya Mei's business was struggling because the food was bad, but after eating there today, I realized that even the best wine needs advertising.

Everyone raved about the barbecue, exclaiming, "I never knew your barbecue tasted so good! You can even grill corn? This is the first time I've ever had it! It's delicious! It's even better than corn porridge!"

"Boiled peanuts and edamame like this, they're tender and fragrant. With a little wine, it's absolutely amazing! How did you come up with this idea, Lan Ya Mei? We usually eat peanuts fried, and edamame dried and ground into tofu. This innovative way of cooking is something I've never seen before. It's both novel and delicious."

"You have to admit, this pork belly, wrapped with garlic, smells amazing. There are plenty of places that sell grilled pork belly, but this is the first time I've seen it with garlic. You have to try it, you'll never forget it." As he spoke, he rolled up another clove of garlic with the pork belly and put it in his mouth.

"This tofu is also good. The outer skin is crispy and covered with seasoning, while the inside is tender and hot. It bursts with juice when you bite into it! Sprinkle some chopped green onions on top, and it's both delicious and beautiful."

...

Hearing everyone's heartfelt praise, Lan Ya Mei and Aunt Guan were overjoyed. They simply said it was a family heirloom craft and welcomed everyone to spread the word.

She couldn't keep up with the patronage of every household, and soon all the prepared barbecue and drinks were sold out. Business had never been so good, and Aunt Guan was overjoyed.

"Come again if you like it! Come again if you like it! We'll have new items tomorrow! We're sold out today, so come early tomorrow!" Lan Yamei explained cheerfully to the customers behind her, while she and Aunt Guan prepared to pack up and go home.

Four sets of tables and benches were brought with them, but now only one set is usable, making the carriage look empty.

Business was so good today that the two of them didn't go home dejected as usual. Instead, they happily discussed what to sell tomorrow on the way home.

"I want to sell corn again tomorrow. The cost is low and the profit is high, but stringing them together is a hassle," said Lan Yamei.

“What’s there to be afraid of? I have plenty of strength. I’ll get up early tomorrow to prepare. But we can’t just sell corn. What about tofu?” Aunt Guan was completely impressed by Lan Yamei’s creative mind.

"Keep selling tofu, but I'm adding another dish tomorrow! The lotus roots in the pond by the door should be ready to eat soon."

"What kind of wicked idea do you have now?" Aunt Guan now wholeheartedly agreed with any of Lan Yatou's ideas! She was secretly looking forward to it.

"Find two young men this afternoon to help dig lotus roots. Let's dig up about twenty jin first to test the waters." Lan Yamei kept everyone in suspense, not saying how to process them.

"You slick guy! With so many ideas, why didn't you come up with them sooner? I almost starved to death because of you!" Aunt Guan complained.

"Hehe... It's a family heirloom technique, and I can't use it unless absolutely necessary."

Aunt Guan rolled her eyes and leaned against the car door. "You just keep messing around! Whether you make money or not, I don't know what you're thinking."

It's not that Lan Ya Mei doesn't want to get rich; she's just a newcomer who hasn't had a chance to experience it yet. She's currently putting her skills to use.

The two returned to the courtyard and had just parked the car when three figures emerged from the darkness and surrounded them.

The leader shouted, "You're Lan Ya Mei BBQ?"

"So what if I am?" Lan Yamei couldn't see who it was, but the voice sounded familiar. She didn't steal or rob, she was a law-abiding citizen, why would she be afraid of a petty thief like Lan Yamei?

"That's right!" As soon as the words were spoken, the three men swung their gleaming broadswords, which were illuminated by the faint moonlight, and immediately slashed at the two men.

Lan Yamei cursed inwardly, "The ancients really have no martial ethics. What grudge do they have? They don't even explain themselves before they start attacking."

In the blink of an eye, he shoved the old woman who was guarding the gate, clenched his fists, dodged left and right, and seized an opportunity to punch one of the men in the Tanzhong acupoint. The man immediately clutched his chest and took two steps back. He then retaliated with a left hook to another man, followed by a spinning kick that knocked the last man to the ground.

The man who had been punched in the chest tried to attack again, but Lan Yamei reacted quickly, throwing him over her shoulder and leaving him unable to get up.

Taking advantage of the chaos, Aunt Guan sneaked into the house and turned on the lights. Only then could Lan Ya Mei see who it was.

It turns out to be those guys who ate at my place for free a few days ago and lost money! They actually showed up at my doorstep!

Realizing they'd been exposed, the three tried to escape, but Lan Yamei quickly blocked their path and asked, "What are you doing in my house? You're not happy about this, are you?"
