Chapter 86 One Sword to the Throat

As soon as Er Gou's mother entered the door, she collapsed into tears, so distraught that she couldn't be helped up, her eyes swollen shut.

Tie Tou clenched his fists, unable to vent his anger. Over the past few days, he had developed a brotherly bond with Er Gou and his wife, who ran the barbecue restaurant together, but now he was powerless to do anything.

The brothers all had ashen faces and clenched their teeth, regretting that they weren't there to help Er Gou and his wife; perhaps they wouldn't have died.

Er Gou and his wife were kind and shrewd business partners. No one, let alone the old woman, could accept being separated from her husband by death overnight.

Second Dog's mother, a white-haired woman burying a black-haired one.

The widow and her son had finally managed to make a decent living in the village. Their son got married and had children, and the couple found respectable jobs in the city, earning a good income. Their son, Gou Dan, was also very well-behaved and adorable. Just when life seemed to be looking up, overnight, the family was gone.

Although Lord Liu was greedy and lustful, he was shocked after learning the situation. He slammed his fist on the table and said angrily, "Damn it! How dare they rob and kill people in my important town of Lin'an! They have no respect for the law! No respect for the law! Issue my order: all personnel must work together to solve the case and bring the murderer to justice."

Er Gou's mother cried uncontrollably, kneeling and kowtowing to Lord Liu, saying, "Thank you, Your Honor! Thank you, Your Honor! This humble woman kowtows to you."

She cried and talked, then started kowtowing repeatedly on the ground, as if she had lost her mind.

Lan Ya Mei felt sorry for her and hugged Er Gou Niang, who was kowtowing, to comfort her, saying, "Lord Liu will definitely solve this case! Auntie, please take care of yourself. You still have Gou Dan to take care of."

"Yes, yes, I still have Gou Dan! Hey? They're not all dead, we still have Gou Dan in our family!" Er Gou's mother, who was frantically kowtowing, suddenly knelt on the ground with a blank look in her eyes, spread her hands, and muttered blankly. Suddenly, she got up and ran madly out the door, as if she was looking for something.

Lan Ya Mei was not caught, and Tie Tou and several brothers hurriedly chased after her, fearing that something might happen.

"Alas! What a pitiful family, have they gone mad?" Lord Liu stood up with some concern and sighed regretfully. "Manager Lan, then I'll trouble you to go to the coroner's office."

Upon arriving at the coroner's workshop, Er Gou and his wife's feet, clad in old cloth shoes, peeked out from under the mat, covered in dust and stark white.

The person was covered with a mat because it was broad daylight. According to local legend, if a dead person were exposed to the sun, their soul would be scattered and they would not be able to be reincarnated as a human in the next life. Therefore, people in ancient times would cover the body of the dead in time.

Yesterday, the two were chatting and laughing in the shop; today, they lie on this mortuary table, draped in mats. A wave of grief washes over me.

The coroner had examined the two individuals and explained that they had been fatally wounded with a single sword to the throat. They had not been tortured before their deaths and died instantly. Apart from this one wound, there were no other injuries.

A single sword strike to the throat? That must be the work of a master! They're illiterate, how would they know a master? Just as Lan Yamei was thinking quickly, Qiu Zeyu arrived.

The two exchanged a glance. Qiu Zeyu stepped forward to examine the wound and said, "Judging from the wound, the weapon was no more than two inches wide and extremely sharp. It pierced from the throat to the back of the neck in an instant, with only a drop of blood. The main cause was that the trachea was severed, leading to suffocation."

After hearing this, the coroner gave a thumbs up and said, "What this young master says is very true! I think so too."

Qiu Zeyu said with great confidence, "Solving this case won't be difficult! There are only a handful of sword masters in the martial arts world who can kill with a single sword strike. Besides me, there are two others. One is my younger brother Qiu Kongkong! The other is Ni Shaofeng, who has been missing from the martial arts world for a long time! However, Ni Shaofeng has not appeared in the martial arts world for more than three years, and no one knows where he is. Finding him will probably not be easy."

Qiu Zeyu continued, "Back then, my brother and I studied swordsmanship under our master, Wu Tongling. Ni Shaofeng was our master's first disciple, but he was expelled from the school for his womanizing and immoral behavior. I don't know where he went or what he's doing now."

So that's how it is. Are only these few people capable of such achievements? Will they not take on any more disciples? Lan Yamei asked doubtfully, "Did your master only take on the three of you?"

“My master is an eccentric old man. If he wasn’t afraid of losing his skills, he wouldn’t have accepted any disciples. When I became his apprentice, my father personally visited him and spent three days and three nights playing chess with him behind closed doors to secure the opportunity. So, we are considered his last disciples.”

"So, the murderer can only be one of the three of you." Things became much simpler. Lan Yamei believed that Qiu Zeyu was not the murderer, so the murderer must be either Ni Shaofeng or Qiu Kongkong.

"But these two are hard to find, it'll probably take some effort. I'll look for my brother first, I'll need to go home." Qiu Zeyu frowned. Although Qiu Kongkong was his brother, he was often hard to find.

Er Gou's mother had gone mad, her mind was disordered, and she was in a daze; she couldn't handle her funeral arrangements. As their boss, Lan Ya Mei had no choice but to take on the responsibility.

He ordered his two brothers to quickly go to the coffin shop and buy two of the best coffins, clean the couple up, and put them in their final resting place.

The coffin shop had a special horse-drawn carriage, which transported the two people back to the village to await burial.

Before even reaching the village, I could see the villagers waiting silently at the village entrance.

As they drew closer, although no one blamed them, the looks in their eyes were noticeably less friendly. It was as if the deaths of Er Gou and his wife were caused by Lan Ya Mei and her barbecue restaurant.

The two men and a few of their buddies could only slowly follow at the very back of the group.

After bringing the people home, the village head addressed everyone, "Everyone, cheer up! Er Gou and his wife are good kids. They went out to work to earn more money. Who doesn't want to earn more money? This was an accident, an unfortunate accident. To become prosperous, we will inevitably encounter some obstacles on the road ahead, but we cannot be afraid! We cannot back down!"
