Chapter 87 The Mysterious Eighteen Mile Shop

At the door of a house, two bald men with sparse eyebrows, dressed in tattered clothes, one tall and one short, squatted on the steps, smoking pipes and staring intently at the person who came in, silently exhaling smoke rings.

Guan Hu didn't say anything, just glanced at it and continued searching for the green flag along the road.

In front of a dilapidated wooden house, an old woman sat on a chair and whipped a short man who was lying on the ground.

With a crack of the whip, the dwarf thrashed about on the ground like a toad, his face covered in ash, making it impossible to tell his age. Guan Hu, not knowing what they were doing, dared not ask.

People passed by the door, and a few heads appeared silently in the windows of the wooden building.

Even though Guan Hu was a bad guy, he had never been so cowardly as he was today. He felt a tightness in his back and an unease urged him to finish his business quickly and leave as soon as possible.

Fortunately, we hadn't gone far when we saw a thatched hut with a green flag hanging on it. There was no door, and the dark hut was dimly lit. We saw an old beggar sitting on the ground, gnawing on a chicken.

Guan Hu cupped his hands in greeting and asked, "May I ask, brother, is this Xingwangcai?"

"Get out of the way! Don't disturb my meal." The beggar waved his hand impatiently, shooed the person away, turned around, and continued eating his chicken.

Guan Hu awkwardly pursed his lips, wondering if he had mistaken someone for someone else! How could Pei Feiyan possibly have any connection with someone like that! He continued searching.

After searching around, he found that all the houses were closed and there were no more green flags. He had no choice but to return to the thatched hut and say to the man again, "I was sent by Pei Feiyan to retrieve something. May I ask if you are Xingwangcai?"

Hearing this, the beggar stopped his frantic chicken-eating, turned around, wiped his greasy mouth with his sleeve, and said with disgust, "You should have said so earlier!" As he spoke, he pulled a purse from his pocket with his greasy hands and threw it over.

Guan Hu caught it in mid-air; it was a brocade pouch. He squeezed it through the pouch and was overjoyed; he had finally obtained his first jade pendant.

"500 taels for storage! Not a penny less!" the beggar said greedily as he ate chicken.

As long as he could get what he wanted, a mere amount of silver was nothing to him. Guan Hu tossed over five hundred taels of silver notes, not wanting to cause any trouble.
