Chapter 137 Small Valley

Upon seeing Pei Han, Pei Ji immediately asked, as if seeking an ally, "Father, is it true that Mother and Stone said they're going to fertilize the potatoes?"

Seeing his son's bewildered expression, Pei Han immediately guessed that his son had probably heard about the fertilizer's production methods and materials. He explained gently, "It's true. Fertilizing can make the soil more fertile, which is beneficial for increasing grain yield. This means that farmers can harvest more grain during the harvest season. First, they can eat their fill, and second, they can sell it for money, thereby improving their lives. It's a great thing for them."

Pei Ji felt he understood a little better now that fertilizing had so many benefits, but he still pouted and said, "But there's manure in the fertilizer!"

Pei Han's deep eyes couldn't help but smile. "What does it matter? Excrement is something that humans produce themselves. We used to think it was useless, but it plays a huge role in agriculture, helping countless people to have enough to eat and wear. Isn't that a good thing?"

After Pei Han's explanation, Pei Ji thought about it and realized it really wasn't a big deal. Excrement is indeed something humans produce themselves; if you really want to find it dirty, you should first dislike yourself.

With that thought, Pei Ji felt relieved and stopped worrying about fertilizing.

Min Yueqing looked at Pei Han and said, "Potatoes have a relatively short maturation period. The foreign merchants said they may mature within 60-100 days. So you can fertilize them about half a month after they sprout. Water them promptly when the soil feels dry, and also pay attention to weeding."

Pei Han noted them down one by one, intending to instruct the jailer and guards later.

After Xiao Wei finished eating, Pei Han took the initiative to clean up the food bowl. After putting the food bowl away, Pei Han said to Min Yueqing, "There are jailers and guards watching over things here. Would you like to take a walk around the area? There is a small valley not far from here. The scenery in the valley is very beautiful. There are many wildflowers on both sides, and a stream in the middle. It is crystal clear and there are many fish swimming at the bottom of the stream."

Min Yueqing was immediately intrigued when she heard about the fish. She hadn't had grilled fish in a long time, and she thought she could have it today. After all, she had plenty of fire starters and seasonings in her space, so she could easily host an outdoor barbecue.

Min Yueqing readily agreed, "Okay, let's go now."

Pei Ji and Shi Tou were overjoyed upon hearing this and both prepared to mount their horses.

An awkward problem arose when Min Yueqing tried to pick up Xiao Wei. Xiao Wei had been crawling and rolling around in the field for so long that its black and white fur had turned a yellowish-brown, and a shake sent dust flying.

Min Yueqing looked at the little tiger helplessly; she had truly forgotten about it when she put it down.

Seeing this situation, Pei Han really wanted to offer to hug Xiao Wei, but having spent some time with Xiao Wei, he was quite familiar with Xiao Wei's picky nature and didn't want to make a fool of himself by saying such a thing.

Pei Han thought for a moment, then lifted his outer robe, tore off a piece of fabric from the lining, and handed it to Min Yueqing.

Min Yueqing looked at Pei Han speechlessly. She had plenty of suitable fabric and was just thinking of a suitable excuse, but she did not expect Pei Han to act so quickly.

Since the clothes were already torn, Min Yueqing had no choice but to reach out and take the clothes, wrapping Xiao Wei up in a ball and picking him up.

This was the first time Xiao Wei had received such treatment. It opened its two round, bright eyes and looked up innocently at Min Yueqing.

Min Yueqing pointed her index finger at Xiao Wei's nose and said, "Little guy, look at all the dirt you're covered in. Did you have fun?"

Xiao Wei thought Min Yueqing was playing with it, so instead of getting angry, it playfully rubbed its tiger face against Min Yueqing's hand, getting her hand covered in dirt.

Min Yueqing looked at Xiao Wei with a wry smile, clapped her hands casually, mounted her horse, and said, "Let's go, let's hurry to the stream and wash Xiao Wei."

Pei Ji, who was on horseback, had seen everything that had just happened. Upon hearing this, he couldn't help but chuckle.

Pei Han couldn't help but chuckle, spurring his horse forward to greet them, "Let's go."

Min Yueqing and the other two followed Pei Han back to the main road, walked along the mountain path to the foot of the mountain, and then circled around for about half an hour before they saw a small valley ahead.

It was indeed as beautiful as Pei Han had described. Colorful wildflowers bloomed on both sides of the valley. These wildflowers, some large and some small, bloomed on their own in this quiet and secluded place, truly delicate and beautiful.

After entering the valley, the journey was filled with birdsong and the fragrance of flowers, accompanied by the gurgling sound of flowing water.

The stream possesses a strikingly beautiful color, appearing at first glance as a shimmering green, but due to the swift current, white splashes of water churn atop the green hue. The water is crystal clear, and the stones along the streambank are clearly visible.

Pei Ji was dazzled by the sights and didn't know which part to examine closely.

Min Yueqing looked around and felt refreshed. If this were in later generations, this little valley would surely become a famous scenic spot, attracting countless tourists to visit.

Pei Han observed Min Yueqing and Pei Ji's reactions, and seeing that his wife and children liked the place, he felt very satisfied.

Suddenly, Pei Han noticed a rustling sound coming from the woods to his right, as if some wild animal was darting towards them. His brow furrowed instantly, and he silently dismounted, picking up a stone and throwing it towards the source of the sound.

The moment the stone hit the ground, a sharp "Eh!" rang out. Pei Han quickly walked towards the bushes and saw a plump wild rabbit lying there.

Pei Han grabbed the rabbit by its ears and lifted it up, then turned and walked back to the horse.

At this moment, Min Yueqing and the other two noticed the commotion and stopped not far away.

Upon seeing the plump rabbit in Pei Han's hand, Min Yueqing knew that it would be a special lunch. She couldn't help but laugh and say, "What a plump wild rabbit! It's perfect for roasting over a fire later!"

Pei Ji couldn't help but ask Min Yueqing, "Mother, are we going to roast rabbit? But Sister Amei and Sister Azhu aren't here."

Shi Tou couldn't help but say, "This is very simple. When we were kids, we played in the village and saw many adults making fires in the fields to roast things to eat! But they usually roasted frogs."

At this point, Shi Tou swallowed hard and continued, "That smelled amazing!"

Seeing Shi Tou's undisguised craving, Pei Ji immediately became interested and excitedly said to Shi Tou, "Then let's grill some too!"

Pei Ji turned to look at Pei Han, who had caught up, and stared intently at the rabbit in Pei Han's hand for a few moments before saying, "Father, shall we roast the rabbit later? Shi Tou said roasted meat is delicious."

Pei Han smiled and replied, "Okay, we can catch a few fish later and grill them together."

Pei Ji and Shi Tou laughed at the same time, both looking forward to the roasted rabbit and roasted fish that would be served later.

Min Yueqing glanced at Pei Han and thought to herself that they were truly on the same wavelength. Before coming here, she was thinking about grilled fish, and Pei Han had already said it for her.
