Because Min Yueqing had changed into men's clothing, she instructed the little one not to call her "Mother" outside the manor, but to call her "Brother." The original owner of this body was only twenty-three years old this year, and dressed as a man, she was a handsome young man, so calling her "Brother" was not out of place.
Upon hearing this, the shopkeeper realized that it was an older brother taking his younger brother out. How loving! And the two brothers were indeed outstanding in appearance.
Back in the apocalypse, Min Yueqing's diet was extremely limited, consisting mostly of compressed biscuits and nutritional supplements. After arriving in the Great Gan Dynasty, it was like a mouse entering a vat of oil; every day felt like opening a blind box, and each box held a wealth of surprises.
Min Yueqing bent down and took a bite from the little boy's hand. It was soft, sticky, and sweet, and it tasted really good. She waved her hand and told the shopkeeper to pack more of the donkey rolls, thinking that she could share them with Amei and Azhu when she got back.
I also packed a little of each of the other types of pastries to try.
They bought quite a lot of things. The shopkeeper tapped away on his abacus for a while, then handed them over with a smile, saying, "This is a good price of sixty-eight coins. Please take this, sir. We look forward to your next visit!"
Min Yueqing accepted the pastries, while Pei Ji consciously opened his purse and began counting the copper coins. He counted out sixty-eight coins and handed them to the shopkeeper in small handfuls.
The shopkeeper looked at the pink and tender little baby, who was counting copper coins very seriously and fluently. He took the copper coins with a look of shock, held them in his hand and counted them. Sure enough, he counted them perfectly.
The shopkeeper couldn't help but exclaim to Min Yueqing, "Your younger brother is truly intelligent; he will surely become an outstanding person when he grows up!"
Min Yueqing humbly accepted the compliments.
The shopkeeper watched them leave with a wide smile. Nowadays, most people buy pastries by the few pieces they need, and it's rare to see such a large purchase. After all, pastries don't keep for long, so this was a real big deal for him.
After this stroll, only halfway through, the mother and son were almost full.
As she passed a noodle stall, Min Yueqing suddenly felt a slight resistance in her hand. She turned around and saw that Zai Zai had stopped in place and was looking at something.
Min Yueqing walked back to the little boy's side and followed his gaze downwards, only to discover that a small child was lying under the noodle stall's small table.
The height of the small table was just level with Pei Ji's head, so as soon as Pei Ji walked to the small table, he immediately noticed the child lying on the ground with his back to him. The reason he stood still at first was just because he found it a little strange that the ground was dirty and why was the child lying on the ground?
But when Pei Ji took a second look, he realized something was wrong.
Pei Ji thought the child probably wouldn't find the ground dirty, because his body was even dirtier. Not only was he covered in black soot, but his clothes were also tattered, with two large tears on his back, so the clothes were barely hanging on him.
The child wasn't lying face down on the ground, but rather inside a rough earthenware bowl.
Pei Ji pulled Min Yueqing a couple of steps closer and asked, looking down, "Why are you eating while lying on the ground?"
He meant well, thinking the child was just ignorant of dining etiquette, which is why he was lying on the ground.
But as soon as he said that, the child was immediately startled. He wanted to run away, but he couldn't bear to leave even a little bit of food in the bowl, so he ate even faster and more hurriedly, licking the bowl with his tongue as if he wanted to swallow the whole bowl.
Pei Ji was stunned.
But then a roar rang in my ears. The noodle stall owner, standing by the pot, shouted at the table below, "You little beggar, a reincarnation of a starving ghost, what are you doing here again? Have you gotten addicted to picking up scraps from me? If I see you again, I'll break your legs!"
He cursed as he walked this way, trying to drag him out.
Although the little boy was small, he was in no way inferior. After licking the last bit off the bowl, he put it on the ground and shouted, "I'm not a little beggar. When I grow up, I'll make money, lots and lots of money!"
After yelling, he turned and tried to run away.
Unfortunately, he turned his head in the direction that Min Yueqing was looking.
The little boy showed a slightly disgusted expression, clearly remembering that it was this child who had meddled and caused him to be discovered when he saw Pei Ji.
Seeing him like this, Pei Ji felt a little wronged, mixed with a bit of guilt.
After listening to the noodle stall owner, he realized that the child was eating someone else's leftovers and that's why he had to hide under the table.
After the little boy emerged, Pei Ji sincerely apologized to him: "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have made a sound."
Pei Ji didn't think the child had done anything wrong. Although he clearly didn't have money to pay the noodle stall owner, he was eating someone else's leftovers, and that person must have paid for them. Therefore, the child wasn't really eating for free.
The little boy, who had just emerged from under the table, was surprised to hear the apology; no one had ever apologized to him so earnestly before. Moreover, this child was clearly different; he looked...
So what?
The little boy couldn't find the right adjective in his limited vocabulary, but in his mind, it just meant someone who was very rich.
He wasn't aggressive at all. Since the man had apologized, he naturally couldn't blame him anymore. So, he generously put away the disdain on his face and said like a little adult, "It's okay. I've heard people say that this is called 'no fight, no friendship'."
Pei Ji thought to himself: Is this what they call "no fight, no friendship"?
But Pei Ji had learned his lesson and knew that if he said those words, the child in front of him would be unhappy again, so he swallowed his words and just smiled amicably.
Pei Ji hadn't seen many children his own age since birth, so he looked at the child in front of him with great interest. He introduced himself, "My name is Pei Ji, what's yours?"
The little boy proudly said, "My name is Stone, because when my dad named me, he happened to see a big stone!"
