Chapter 218 Panic

In reality, Serena Williams' roar wasn't very heartfelt; it was just a show of force, and in the end, it was just a casual shout.

If it really roared and sang like it did in the mountains, Min Yueqing was afraid it would frighten her little one.

Just as Pei Yun and Pei Qian were terrified, Liu staggered out of the inner room.

"Waaah... I'm scared..." Liu made a whimpering sound, with glistening saliva hanging from her chin, her hair disheveled, and her clothes covered in wrinkles that she didn't know how she was made to wear.

Stepping into the outer room, she first looked blankly at Min Yueqing and the others, but her gaze only swept quickly across their faces before timidly shifting away.

When she saw Pei Yun and Pei Qian sitting on the ground, Liu seemed to find support and sat down on the ground as well, frantically grabbing Pei Yun's sleeve.

Her head hung low, as if she wanted to bury it inside her collar.

Even so, she still looked very uneasy and panicked.

Pei Yun was too busy taking care of herself to even think about how to hide in the ground, and had no energy left to comfort Liu Shi.

When Liu saw that Pei Yun ignored her, she was so frightened that she started to sob.

Seeing Liu's disheveled appearance, even Pei Han, with his composure, couldn't help but show a look of surprise.

In Pei Han's memory, Liu Shi had always been indifferent. Whenever he saw Liu Shi alone when he was a child, she would have a stern face and treat him as if he were invisible, almost as if her disgust was written all over her face.

Of course, this indifference was only directed at Pei Han.

Liu was quite loving towards her own children, and she always greeted Pei Boye with a smile.

As Pei Han grew older and more independent, Liu could finally barely see him anymore. But these meetings were filled with wariness and politeness, all superficial, and still very unpleasant.

This was the first time Pei Han had ever seen Liu Shi in such a disheveled state.

On the one hand, he felt that God had eyes and the wicked would get their just desserts; on the other hand, he felt a little regretful. He had originally planned to take away what Liu cared about most step by step, so that she could experience the taste of regret.

Given Liu's current state, it seems impossible for him to do so.

Pei Han turned to look at Min Yueqing. He thought Min Yueqing would be as surprised as he was, but to his surprise, Min Yueqing's expression was very calm, and even Pei Ji beside her did not have any special reaction.

If there were other people here, judging only from Min Yueqing and Pei Ji's behavior, they would probably think that Liu Shi had always been like this, and had never been glamorous or arrogant.

Having received the feedback she expected, Min Yueqing decided not to stay any longer. She asked Pei Han, "Shall we go back?"

Pei Han's feelings were very complicated at this moment, but one thing he was very clear about was that he didn't want to stay here anymore. He immediately nodded and accompanied Min Yueqing and Pei Ji outside.

Only after the group had completely disappeared from sight, and the only sound in the room was Liu's sobbing, did Pei Yun and Pei Qian tentatively raise their heads.

Pei Qian was still shaken, half of his body shrank behind Pei Yun, and he said in a trembling voice, "Third Sister, they're gone, aren't they?"

Pei Yun looked around and, seeing that there was indeed no trace of that family, nor was the terrifying tiger, she breathed a sigh of relief.

Pei Yun flung away Liu Shi and Pei Qian, who were grabbing her clothes, and used the ground to push herself up. Her face was a mixture of shame and anger. She yelled at Pei Qian, "Let's go! Get up now!"

Once Pei Qian stood up shakily, Pei Yun scolded him again: "You only care about yourself, you don't even know to help your mother!"

Pei Qian was not one to be bullied; he was used to being a bully even within his own circle. When he heard Pei Yun dare to insult him, he immediately retorted, "You're always talking about me like that. Don't you also not have a maidservant?"

The siblings started arguing immediately after a disagreement, and neither of them bothered to help Liu, who was standing nearby.

The room was in complete chaos, but none of the maids and servants waiting outside dared to enter. Their lives hadn't been easy for them either for the past two years.

Liu was mentally challenged and unable to manage the household, so their treatment was already much worse. In addition, Pei Yun and Pei Qian were equally difficult to serve, one with a bad temper and the other playful and lecherous, both clumsy and indecisive at a young age.

At first, when the two of them argued, the maids would try to mediate. But the two of them were completely ungrateful and would immediately take their anger out on others.

Over time, the maids all avoided the two of them like the plague, preferring to be scolded afterward rather than get involved in their disputes.

The two, who were arguing until they were red in the face, finally stopped when they smelled a foul odor. They both stopped talking and looked at Liu.

Liu was first startled by Xiao Wei's shouting. She had been out for so long and no one had paid any attention to her. Now, Pei Yun and Pei Qian were arguing fiercely in front of her. She couldn't help but lose control of her bladder.

Pei Yun was so angry that her head was spinning. She roared, "Where are you all? Are you all dead? It's been so long and you haven't even come in to serve me!"

Only after hearing this clear order did the maids have no choice but to enter the room and begin cleaning up the mess.

Pei Han left the main courtyard with a question mark on his face, and asked Min Yueqing as he walked, "Madam, did you and Lele already know about Liu's situation?"

Pei Ji answered very naturally, "Yes, I saw Madam before my mother and I went to the Southwest. She was lying in bed at the time and didn't even realize she was drooling!"

Pei Ji clearly remembered the situation back then; compared to that time, Liu's behavior today was merely a bit more exaggerated.

Min Yueqing nodded in agreement with Pei Ji's words, as if to show that Pei Ji was right.

Pei Han was speechless for a moment, then asked, "Why did she suddenly become like this? Did she suffer some kind of trauma back then?"

While reaching out to tease Xiao Wei, Min Yueqing replied, "I don't know. We had just returned from the estate and met her to say goodbye. We set off the next day, and she wasn't this seriously ill then."

Pei Han thought he would investigate quietly later, so he didn't say anything more. After all, Liu deserved her punishment, and the investigation was just to find out the truth.

Pei Ji didn't care much about Liu Shi. After he left the house, he focused on watching Min Yueqing tease Xiao Wei.

Xiao Wei was as well-behaved as a puppy in front of Min Yueqing. Min Yueqing didn't even need to throw the ball; she only needed to raise her hand, and Xiao Wei would jump and hop around, chasing after Min Yueqing's hand with its big head.

Pei Ji found it amusing and gradually slowed down, as if Min Yueqing was dragging him along.

Min Yueqing was also helpless in the face of this situation.

On one side was a little tiger that would jump and run fast at the slightest touch, and on the other side was a sweet burden. Pei Ji was so engrossed in watching the fun that her feet seemed glued to the ground, and she had to pull them to move them.

Pei Han looked up from his reverie and saw this scene, and couldn't help but smile. He quickly put aside the matter of Liu Shi, took a few steps forward to Pei Ji's side, and took Pei Ji's other small hand.
