Chapter 23 A Bad Idea

After a while, the maid who was decocting the medicine brought it in.

Liu finally found a pretext to lash out, and said to Min Yueqing with a strong voice, "It seems the medicine has been prepared. I'll have to trouble you, eldest daughter-in-law."

He was halfway through his sentence when he realized that he, as a patient, was a bit too energetic, so he cleared his throat and lowered his voice a few decibels.

Even Pei Ji looked at her in disbelief.

Min Yueqing was both amused and exasperated. She wondered if Liu had become so naive after living such a good life for so many years that she couldn't even fake illness properly, or if she simply didn't respect her enough to act so recklessly.

Min Yueqing stood up gracefully and walked back to Liu's bedside. She first tested the temperature of the medicine bowl with her finger, and when she felt it was a little hot, she naturally withdrew her hand.

"It seems this little girl still needs some discipline. She dared to put such hot medicine in front of Madam. If I hadn't been careful, she might have burned Madam."

Min Yueqing looked worried.

The little girl turned pale with fright and immediately knelt down to beg for forgiveness.

Liu's face stiffened, and she forced a smile, saying, "She meant well. She knew that medicine should be drunk while it's hot, so she hurriedly brewed it and brought it in."

In reality, this was something Liu specifically instructed Pei Yun to tell the little maid, with the aim of making Min Yueqing suffer in silence or lose her composure and embarrass herself. The move was childish, but quite insidious.

Unexpectedly, Min Yueqing was so cunning that she not only saw through it at a glance, but also brazenly brought up the matter in front of her.

Min Yueqing said slowly, "Madam really knows her maids very well. I am ashamed of myself."

Liu was so choked up that she couldn't speak for a long time.

Once the medicine bowl was no longer too hot, Min Yueqing picked it up and stirred it with a small spoon in her other hand, then pretended to feed it to Liu.

Min Yueqing subtly sniffed the medicine and knew it wasn't a remedy for colds at all. She thought to herself, "It's definitely an act. And they don't even know how to do it properly."

This is unfair to Liu. Liu would never have imagined that Min Yueqing, a well-bred young lady who had learned music, chess, calligraphy and painting since childhood and at most read a couple of books of poetry, actually knew medicine!

Liu was still smug, thinking to herself that no matter how stubborn you are, you still have to serve me obediently. So she waited for Min Yueqing to feed her the medicine.

Suddenly, Liu felt a warmth in her chest, as if it had gained some weight.

When Liu came to her senses and looked down, she realized that Min Yueqing was holding an empty medicine bowl with its rim facing down in one hand and a spoon with its face down in the other, and had spilled the entire bowl of medicine on her.

Min Yueqing seemed to be startled as well, and did not wipe it with a cloth in time, resulting in the medicine being completely absorbed by the quilt.

Then Pei Yun shouted, "How can you be so clumsy? You can't even serve medicine properly! Are you doing this on purpose?!"

Hearing the commotion, Pei Ji slid off the soft chair and ran to Min Yueqing's side. He took the medicine bowl and spoon from Min Yueqing's hands and put them back on the tray that the little maid was carrying.

Then he called out loudly, "Mother, are you alright? Did you burn your hand?"

He even took Min Yueqing's hand in a proper manner, checking it over and over to see if it was red. When he couldn't find any red spots, he blew on Min Yueqing's palm.

Min Yueqing almost burst out laughing on the spot. She put her arm around the little one's waist and once again marveled at how kind God had been to her, giving her such a smart and thoughtful little one.

As Liu watched the two of them displaying their deep motherly love in front of her bed, she almost vomited blood.

Min Yueqing, however, calmly said to Pei Yun, "I have no idea where you got these words from. Or is it that you have this idea yourself, which is why you think everyone is ill-intentioned? No matter how bad I am, I am still your elder sister-in-law. Since ancient times, there has been a saying that an elder sister-in-law is like a mother. Last time you were criticizing others for disrespecting their elders, but you yourself can shout and yell in front of your elder sister-in-law like this?"

He paused, then scoffed, "No manners!"

Upon hearing this, Pei Yun's already pale face turned almost purple and swollen, making her look quite frightening.

Pei Yun now genuinely suspects that her sister-in-law is possessed. If she weren't possessed, how could someone change so drastically? Could it be that Min Yueqing's previous gentle and polite demeanor was all an act?

Pei Yun thought bitterly that she would definitely ask her mother to invite some monks and Taoist priests to come to the house to exorcise the evil spirits, especially at Jingyuan.

Pei Yun was about to retort, but Liu Shi cut her off. After all, she was a young lady about to be married, and if her reputation for being shrewish and rude spread, it would inevitably hinder her future marriage.

Liu took several deep breaths before barely managing to say to Min Yueqing, "Everyone makes mistakes sometimes, it's not your fault. Don't be angry with Yun'er, she was just in a hurry and that's why she spoke without thinking."

Min Yueqing neither agreed nor disagreed, but she also disdained to mention Pei Yun again.

Only when the quarrel subsided did Liu's head maids dare to step forward to change Liu's soiled bedding. Min Yueqing had already retreated to the side, coldly watching Liu, who stood up in a disheveled state.

After a lot of work, Pei Yun finally helped Liu Shi lie down again.

Because of this delay, the little girl who had just apologized had already gone back and brought over a bowl of medicine.

Min Yueqing made a move to get up, but Liu's eyelids twitched twice. She quickly waved to Min Yueqing and said, "You've been here for quite a while. You must be tired. Go back and rest."

Min Yueqing said in a low voice, somewhat hurt, "Does Madam think I'm not serving her well?"

At this moment, Liu dared not provoke her any further, fearing that she would stay and "take good care" of her. She quickly reassured her, "What are you saying? I just saw that you had just recovered from a serious illness and couldn't bear to see you overwork yourself, so I let you go back and rest properly."

Min Yueqing nodded with a regretful expression: "Madam is still so considerate. I'll come again tomorrow."

Liu was frantically shaking Erkang's hand in her heart, wanting her not to come again tomorrow, but she had to keep her word even if she cried. It was truly a case of inviting a god but having a hard time sending him away.

In short, she watched as Min Yueqing leisurely led Pei Ji out.

Ah Zhu followed her mistress closely, thinking to herself: It was worth the trip I made to see such a great show, it was so satisfying! I must repeat it to Ah Mei word for word when I get back, she will definitely regret not coming along.

After the three of them had gone far away, Pei Yun immediately said to Liu Shi, "Mother, I think Min Yueqing must be possessed by an evil spirit. Tomorrow, please invite some monks and Taoist priests to exorcise the evil spirit and see if we can make this demon reveal its true form."

Mrs. Liu looked at her foolish daughter in disbelief. Unable to fight or argue with her opponent, she tried to use the power of gods and ghosts to exorcise evil spirits. What a useless and terrible idea.

Judging from Liu's usual behavior, it's clear that she doesn't believe in ghosts and gods. If she believed in gods and Buddhas, how could she have dared to commit so many sins?
