Chapter 40 Picnic

Stone rode his pony with great enthusiasm, occasionally stroking the horse's glossy coat, so content he didn't know what to say, completely unaware of the terrible things his master was thinking.

The two children were quite clumsy when they first got on the horse, since their only experience riding a horse was a couple of days ago at the riding stables, so this was basically learning on the spot. After riding for a while outside the yard, their skills improved somewhat.

Here I have to say, geniuses are truly a magical species.

Last time at the horse farm, the two children were taught by equally experienced instructors for the same amount of time, but today Pei Ji clearly adjusted his posture much earlier than Shi Tou, and rode quite well in no time after mounting the horse.

On Shi Tou's side, the progress was a little slower. It was only after Pei Ji steadied the horse and shared some experience that Shi Tou gradually adapted and didn't struggle as much as before. Previously, he relied more on brute force to balance his body. Fortunately, his physical fitness was good and the horse was obedient, so he wasn't thrown off.

Min Yueqing followed behind the two children, riding at a leisurely pace for about half an hour before reaching the foot of the mountain.

Perhaps because the soil and water here are fertile and there is plenty of farmland, most of the villagers make a living by farming and few of them go into the mountains. They didn't encounter many people along the way.

Once inside the mountains, Min Yueqing rode ahead of the two children to lead the way and check the road conditions. As she guided them, she explained some basic survival tips for the mountains. After riding for a little over 15 minutes into the mountains, when they could no longer see any footprints, Min Yueqing chose a relatively open area to stop.

This open space is surrounded by a bamboo grove, quiet and pleasant. When I arrived, I saw a crystal-clear stream winding down from the mountain within the grove. The environment is good, and the water source is plentiful, making it very suitable as their training ground.

Min Yueqing directed the two children to tie up the horses, and then took them for a drive around the neighborhood.

Firstly, we wanted to get to know the surrounding terrain and environment. Secondly, after riding horses for so long, both children's legs were trembling, and walking slowly would help alleviate this.

Upon entering the bamboo forest, Shi Tou's legs trembled, and his heart pounded involuntarily. Look at this environment—secluded and quiet—and the person leading the way was a hidden martial arts master; this was clearly a private exchange of skills.

"Master is finally willing to truly accept me as his disciple, hahaha..." Stone laughed silently in his heart.

In fact, it wasn't just Shi Tou who was obsessed with martial arts; even Pei Ji's flushed face wasn't from exhaustion, but from excitement. He felt that his mother had been like a treasure chest for the past six months, and you never knew what surprise she would pull out next.

The only certainty is that this is his mother, who will always love him, and who will become more and more powerful and cooler.

After the two children had rested enough, Min Yueqing began to teach them a set of basic body-building exercises.

She deliberately taught slowly, breaking down each move in detail. Pei Ji and Shi Tou, one with high comprehension and the other with an extremely positive attitude, learned it without too much difficulty.

The key to this set of basic skills is diligent practice. There aren't many moves, nor are they too complicated. After learning the complete breakdown once, Min Yueqing demonstrated it again in a coherent manner, and then let them practice on their own. She watched from the side and occasionally corrected their incorrect postures.

All three were focused on teaching and didn't notice the passage of time until Pei Ji's stomach started growling. Min Yueqing then realized that the sun was already high in the sky and told the two children to rest for a while and have something to eat.

Shi Tou wiped the sweat from his brow, ran to his saddle, untied the bundle of dry rations, and carried it over.

Min Yueqing walked to the large rock where they had placed their water bags, found a smoother rock to sit on, and casually said, "Come sit here. We don't need to be so particular when we're out. Just eat on the rock."

For Pei Ji, this was no different from his first picnic. He found everything he saw novel and didn't feel uncomfortable at all. He sat down next to his mother.

When Shi Tou used to play wildly with his friends outside, lying on the muddy ground was a common occurrence, so he was not unaccustomed to it and quickly found a rock to sit on on the other side of his master.

He hadn't felt it when he was practicing martial arts, but now that he had stopped, Shi Tou realized that he must have been hungry a long time ago. His stomach was already empty. As soon as he sat down, he hurriedly opened the package, thinking that no matter what kind of dry food it was, he should take it out and eat it first.

Upon opening the package, three large oil paper packets were revealed. Two contained neatly arranged pies, and the other contained sliced braised beef. This was clearly made by Ah Mei, and the beef must have been brought from the mansion.

In addition, Amei thoughtfully wrapped three pairs of chopsticks in a clean white handkerchief, showing meticulous attention to detail, even considering that they might not be able to find a water source to wash their hands outside.

Actually, there was a water source nearby, but since they had chopsticks, it was more convenient to use them.

Min Yueqing picked up a pie and started eating. Pei Ji and Shi Tou saw her start eating and then began to eat as well. They soon discovered that the pie actually came in two different fillings: one was filled with pork and cabbage, and the other was sweet with a little brown sugar in the middle.

Min Yueqing preferred savory flavors and only tried one of the sweet ones. Pei Ji had a similar taste and also preferred savory flavors. Shi Tou, on the other hand, quite liked sweet flavors and ate a lot of them by himself.

When Shi Tou was at home, he rarely had the opportunity to eat sweets because sweets were very expensive for his family, and brown sugar was even harder to come by. But this made the few times he did eat sweets very precious and happy, because each time it was with the whole family.
