Chapter 72 Covering Ears

The boat started moving, and Pei Ji immediately became excited, pulling Min Yueqing and saying, "Mother, the boat is moving!"

Looking at the easily satisfied little one, Min Yueqing couldn't help but sigh at the considerable harm caused by the inconvenience of transportation in ancient times. This child was so happy to see a big river; if he saw the sea, he would probably scream.

She affectionately stroked the little one's head, thinking to herself that she didn't have time now and needed to hurry to see how his father was doing. She promised to take him to see the sea when she had the chance.

Feng Ruichuan was struck dumb, "Mother?"

Previously, his attention was entirely on Min Yueqing, and he didn't notice the two little brats next to him at all. Later, when he saw a child sitting next to Min Yueqing, he assumed it was her younger brother and didn't pay any attention to him.

But when he suddenly heard someone call out "Mother," Feng Ruichuan was furious. He had thought she was a young lady from a wealthy family, but it turned out she was the mother of his child. He wished he could make that annoying child disappear on the spot.

Feng Ruichuan unconsciously muttered a curse word to Pei Ji.

Liu Fan's family had some money, and she always liked to follow Feng Ruichuan in his reckless behavior. As soon as she saw his expression, she knew what he was thinking. Liu Fan immediately whispered to comfort him, "What's the big deal? She's just been married before. Look, that man isn't here anymore. He might be dead. You don't know, some people just love young married women."

After saying that, he chuckled twice, and the group of cronies at the table immediately understood and also let out grating, sinister laughs.

Although Feng Ruichuan was still dissatisfied, he had no other choice but to accept it reluctantly. He thought to himself, "At worst, I'll just have some fun and that's it. I don't necessarily have to marry her."

As the boat sailed to the middle of the river, the surrounding scenery became increasingly pleasant, and several scholars sitting by the side of the boat began to talk animatedly.

Their voices weren't quiet, and Pei Ji was so close that he could hear them clearly.

Pei Ji thought to himself, "Could this be the literary gathering my father once mentioned?" He had to listen carefully, so he pricked up his ears with great interest and listened attentively to what the people were saying.

But after a short while, Pei Ji frowned. Why were these people not getting to the point?

Pei Ji listened to the pleasantries and mutual flattery for a while, and finally, someone started talking about poetry and prose.

"Sharing a light drink with others, embracing soft jade by the lamp. A glance back into his embrace always feels right, yet, it hurts so much..."

Min Yueqing quickly covered the baby's ears. At this moment, the people on the boat burst into loud laughter, clapping and banging on the table.

Clearly, these men, though dressed like scholars, were not proper scholars at all; otherwise, they would not have openly recited lewd and obscene lyrics in such a public setting, especially lyrics written by the famous Emperor Huizong of Song.

At this point, Min Yueqing also found it strange. This so-called Gan Dynasty had never appeared in history, but when Min Yueqing read books, she occasionally found that she would see the works of famous historical figures.

Min Yueqing couldn't understand it; she felt that this was beyond scientific explanation.

That said, neither the apocalypse nor time travel can be explained by science, and it seems that we can only look for answers in the realm of metaphysics.

Pei Ji looked at Min Yueqing with a puzzled expression, "Mother, why did you cover my ears?"

At this moment, the person had finished reading. Min Yueqing withdrew her hand and replied seriously, "Because those are not good words, children should not listen to them."

Pei Ji was confused, but seeing Min Yueqing's serious expression, he could only obediently nod, "Then I won't listen." As he spoke, he added in a low voice, "What they say is meaningless, not as good as what Father says."

Min Yueqing was both amused and exasperated; it seemed that Pei Han had spoiled her little one's ears.

Stone listened to every word, but he neither understood nor remembered anything. His current knowledge was only enough to recognize some common characters; anything related to poetry and songs gave him a headache, and he could completely ignore it.

Min Yueqing had observed Pei Ji and Shi Tou's teaching and had a full understanding of Shi Tou's dislike of literature. If this child were in later generations, he would probably be a mischievous child who would give teachers a headache.

Min Yueqing answered Pei Ji's question in a loud voice, and almost everyone in the cabin heard it, including those few people.

Perhaps realizing there were children on board, they stopped saying such inappropriate things and appropriately toned down their boasting.

In stark contrast to their reactions, Feng Ruichuan felt completely melted the moment he heard Min Yue's clear and melodious voice, and his eyes, which had dimmed slightly because of her child, brightened again.

Feng Ruichuan completely forgot his original purpose for coming to take the cruise, and only regretted that the ship was not stopping.

As the large ship was about to head towards the shore, Pei Ji couldn't help but tug at Min Yueqing's hand, "Mother, can we go out and touch the water?"

Sitting in the cabin, which was still a layer away from the water, was not as enjoyable as facing the river directly. Before boarding the boat, Pei Ji noticed that there was a passageway on the side of the boat, and he could definitely touch the river water by squatting there.

"Why not?" Min Yueqing immediately took his hand and stood up, then asked Shi Tou, "Do you want to go?"

Shi Tou nodded vigorously, and Min Yueqing led the two children out of the cabin through the side door and onto the ship's side.

As soon as Pei Ji reached the ship's railing, he felt that the view from there was much wider than from inside the cabin. He excitedly took a few steps on the railing and then squatted down.

Pei Ji couldn't resist putting his hand into the river. As soon as his hand touched the water, he realized that the water was actively washing his hand against the direction of the boat's movement. He was shocked and said to Min Yueqing, "Mother, the water is flowing in the opposite direction from us, and it's quite strong!"

Min Yueqing couldn't help but laugh.

She didn't want to explain action and reaction to the little one. The little one's thinking was even more agile than hers. The fact that he could ask this question meant that he had already intuitively perceived this principle.

As the boat approached the shore, Min Yueqing called them back to the cabin, explaining that the boat would be quite bumpy when approaching the shore, making it unsuitable for children to stay on the gunwale.

After disembarking, Pei Ji looked at the cruise ship with a hint of reluctance. Min Yueqing chuckled and asked, "Want to ride it again?"

Pei Ji thought about it seriously for a while, then shook his head. It was already noon, and he and Shi Tou hadn't practiced their skills yet. They should go back early so they could make up for it in the afternoon.

Shi Tou shared Pei Ji's opinion: although boating was fun, practicing martial arts was more important.

Seeing that they had made their decision, Min Yueqing said, "Then let's find a place to eat, and go back to the inn after lunch."

Min Yueqing would never eat at the inn unless she had a choice. She even arranged for the people she brought with her to have their money with Amei, so Amei would pay for their meals when they went out.

Unexpectedly, when she said this, the first person to respond was not the two children, but a stranger's voice.
