Not long after, Amei brought a basin of water at a suitable temperature into the room. Seeing that the young master was asleep and the young lady was sitting beside him, she quickly tiptoed, afraid of waking the young master.
Amei put down the hot water, walked to Min Yueqing's side, and asked softly, "Miss, would you like to wipe the young master?"
Min Yueqing said softly, "Bring me a hot towel."
Amei quickly retreated to the outer room, soaked the towel in hot water, wrung it out as quietly as possible, and then returned to the inner room.
Min Yueqing took the hot towel, tested it on her hands, and found the temperature to be just right. She simply wiped the little one's face gently and didn't do anything else.
The little one sat in the carriage all day, wrapped in a thick blanket from head to toe. Except for his little face, the rest of his body was not exposed, so he couldn't be considered dirty.
About half an hour later, Stone tiptoed in.
"Master, Sister Mei said the porridge is ready and asked if we should wake the young master up to eat?" Shi Tou, who always had a loud voice, was almost speaking in a whisper this time.
Seeing that Pei Ji had even stopped practicing martial arts these past two days, Shi Tou knew that he must be feeling very unwell. Although this young master was quite spoiled in many ways, his perseverance and tenacity in learning were something even Shi Tou admired.
For the past two days, Pei Ji has neither read nor practiced martial arts, and even stopped his chess game with his master in the carriage. Shi Tou has seen all of this. Although he doesn't say it, his anxiety is no less than that of his sister, A Mei.
Shi Tou silently did what he could to avoid troubling his master with trivial matters, so that he could wholeheartedly take care of Pei Ji.
Min Yueqing shook her head slightly and said softly, "Put the porridge on the stove to simmer, and let Lele eat it when she wakes up. You all eat first, don't wait for me."
Stone nodded in agreement and then tiptoed out.
Pei Ji slept straight through the night, not waking up until nearly dawn.
When Pei Ji woke up, he saw Min Yueqing dozing off against the headboard, facing him. He raised his hand, about to ask his mother why she wasn't lying down to sleep, when he saw her open her eyes.
As soon as Min Yueqing noticed the little one's movement, she knew that the little one had probably slept enough. She stretched and asked the little one, "Are you feeling better?"
Pei Ji, feeling the effects of the stretch, unconsciously stretched and even mimicked Min Yueqing's expression by squinting her eyes contentedly before replying in a soft, sweet voice, "Much better, Mother."
Seeing that the little brat dared to put on an imitation show on the spot, Min Yueqing immediately flicked his little nose with her index finger and said in a seemingly serious but actually playful tone, "Naughty boy, it seems you're really healed."
Pei Ji couldn't help but chuckle softly, though her voice was still weak, she looked much more energetic.
The most obvious change was that his large, clear eyes began to sparkle, no longer drooping like they did during the day.
Shi Tou was worried that Min Yueqing and Pei Ji hadn't eaten yet. He was lying in bed but couldn't fall asleep. When he heard the noise from inside, he knew that Pei Ji must have woken up.
He dressed and got off the bed, standing by the curtain and asked, "Master, are you awake? Would you like to eat? The porridge is in the room. Sister Amei brought in the small stove from the carriage; the porridge has been simmering on the stove!"
Seeing that Shi Tou was still awake, Min Yueqing quickly replied, "Okay, we'll eat in a bit, you should go to sleep."
Then she turned to the little one and asked, "Are you hungry? Mei made some porridge, want to get up and have some?"
Pei Ji's first reaction was to ask, "Mother, haven't you eaten either?"
Min Yueqing feigned annoyance, "Sigh, we have a little baby sleeping at home, how can I have an appetite to eat by myself?"
Pei Ji's eyes lit up instantly, and two rosy blushes appeared on her face. She could hardly hide the joy on her little face, but she still remembered to be reserved. She could only pretend to casually steal glances at Min Yueqing, but in fact, her whole face clearly said: Little baby? Is it me? It's me!
When Min Yueqing saw the little boy's shy and coquettish appearance, she laughed inwardly, but she tightly gripped her clothes in her hands, afraid that she would laugh so hard that she would pound the bed.
Don't let Pei Ji's seemingly soft and cute five-year-old appearance fool you; he actually has a lot to say about his image.
If she were to accidentally laugh out loud, the little one would definitely want to disappear into a crack in the ground, and she would never see such a lively and innocent little one again.
Min Yueqing silently recited the Heart-Cleansing Mantra for ten minutes before suppressing her smile, then got dressed and got out of bed. She wrapped the little one in a thick, plush blanket, picked him up a bit, and let him sit against the headboard with soft pillows.
"Sit still, I'll go get the porridge."
Pei Ji was wrapped up like a newborn baby, with only his head able to move, so he obediently nodded.
Min Yueqing chuckled softly, kissed his little face, and then walked out into the outer room.
When Shi Tou saw her come out, he immediately pointed to the table and said, "Master, the bowls and spoons are all on the table."
He actually wanted to serve the food to his master and bring it in, but he didn't know if his master would eat it right away, so he was afraid that serving it out in advance would make it cold.
Min Yueqing smiled and agreed, then urged him, "Go to sleep, or it will be dawn soon."
It wouldn't be long before breakfast was ready, and Min Yueqing didn't plan to feed the little one too much porridge; just enough to fill his stomach would be fine. She filled her own bowl and prepared to share it with the little one.
Pei Ji once again enjoyed being fed by his mother, and he ate the ordinary bowl of porridge, which even had a slight medicinal taste, with relish.
Min Yueqing thought he was really hungry, so she asked, "Would you like to eat some more?"
Pei Ji didn't mind being fed a little longer, but he couldn't bear to see his mother running around so late, so he quickly shook his head. It was still dark outside, and the room was only lit by an oil lamp.
Seeing him shake his head, Min Yueqing put the bowl aside, poured a glass of water, and the two rinsed their mouths. Min Yueqing then pulled him out of the blanket and seamlessly slipped him into the warm quilt before getting back into bed.
Pei Ji felt a blur before his eyes, and his body felt light; miraculously, he was back in bed from under the blanket. He couldn't help but look at his mother with admiration, thinking that his mother was truly amazing, and must be the most powerful person in the world.
This time, they slept until dawn, and when the three of them woke up, the downstairs area was already bustling with activity.
This day is probably the most important day of the year for ordinary people. It means bidding farewell to the old year and welcoming the new, and it also means that after a year of hard work, they can finally take a good rest and reward themselves.
Even the poorest families cannot skimp on their New Year's Eve dinner tonight.
In Banan County, it is customary to have fish and chicken as dishes for the New Year's Eve dinner. Fish symbolizes abundance year after year, while chicken symbolizes good fortune and happiness.
