When the person in front of him spoke of national righteousness and the life and death of the people, Zhao Dazui realized that the person in front of him was incapable of colluding with them.
If he continued to talk about his shady dealings with Li Quangui, he'd probably die even faster. Thinking of this, Zhao Dazui immediately cried and tried to justify himself.
“We were once pitiful people, forced to become bandits in the mountains. The world is tough, and we just want to survive. If you, sir, can spare my life, I am willing to turn over a new leaf and start anew.”
Mu Jin sneered, "You did this just to survive? You even stole the people's life-saving food, and you wantonly took and raped their children. You did such beastly things, and you think it was just to survive?"
Mu Jin snorted coldly: "Do you think I'm that kind of person who's easily fooled?"
“I really know I was wrong. If you release me, I am willing to share the food and fodder in this mountain with the people of Liangcheng. I also promise that I will never bully the people or take a single penny from them again.”
Zhao Dazui's mind raced as he tried to beg Mu Jinfang to spare his life. He thought that as long as he could get out of this room, he would have a way to survive.
Not to mention the more than one hundred bandits on his mountain, there were also several bandits and yamen runners who drank with him in Li Quangui's villa. Even if the two men in front of them were highly skilled, they wouldn't be without a chance of winning even if they fought with all their might.
Zhao Dazui frantically tried to think of a way to escape, pleading, "Please, two chivalrous gentlemen, believe me and spare my life."
Mu Jin sneered: "How can you shameless bastards who drink the blood of the people still have the face to live in this world? Although I am not a good person either, killing you should be considered doing justice for Heaven and accumulating some good karma for myself."
After Mu Jin finished speaking, she picked up a poisoned silver needle and was about to pierce Zhao Dazui's throat, but Nangong Min stopped her.
"Ah Jin, let me do it. Don't get your hands dirty."
After Nangong Min finished speaking, he took the silver needle from Mu Jin and cleanly and neatly pierced Zhao Dazui's throat. In no time, Zhao Dazui's eyes widened and he gripped his throat tightly.
From the moment the silver needle pierced his throat, Zhao Dazui felt as if someone was choking him. His face turned red, his eyes widened, and he was in excruciating pain from the feeling of being on the verge of death.
Gradually, Zhao Dazui's chest heaved more and more violently, but because of this, his vitality was gradually disappearing until everything returned to calm.
Mu Jin stood up, glanced at Zhao Dazui's corpse with disgust, and then turned to Nangong Min beside her.
"Let's go." Nangong Min nodded and followed Mu Jin out of the room.
By this time, the yamen runners and bandits at the banquet were all completely drunk.
Mu Jin and Nangong Min exchanged a glance, then, swords in hand, steadily walked towards the banquet. After a while, the two had subdued everyone in the courtyard, tied them all up, and administered poisoned needles to them.
The poison on the needles was enough to keep the people in this courtyard asleep for three days and three nights.
Previously, the two had learned from Zhao Dazui that there were more than a hundred bandits on Shiling Mountain. If they were to force their way in to rescue the people, it would inevitably take a lot of time and effort and would be difficult to deal with.
Therefore, they decided to go up the mountain under cover of night to rescue the old woman's daughter-in-law.
After discussing their plans, the two left Li Quangui's villa, returned to the inn to pack, and then purchased the necessary items in the city before leaving.
As night fell, Mu Jin and Nangong Min quietly made their way towards Shiling Mountain. Using their agility, they successfully evaded the bandits on the mountain.
This bandit group had been running rampant in Liangcheng for years, never imagining that anyone would dare to set foot on the mountain. Therefore, this bandit stronghold was different from other bandit strongholds; there were no patrols or sentries here, making it more like a small village.
Nangong Min and Mu Jin, dressed in night clothes, exchanged a glance and decided to capture a bandit to inquire about the old woman's daughter-in-law's whereabouts.
They hid by a thatched hut and spotted a drunken bandit urinating under a tree not far away. Nangong Min, wielding a long sword, instantly appeared behind the man and pressed the sword against his neck.
Upon discovering that someone had a sword pressed against his throat, the previously drunk man was immediately sobered up by the shock. His legs went weak, but Nangong Min lifted him up with one hand and hid him behind a tree trunk.
"Tell me! Where did you hide that mute girl?" Nangong Min asked in a low voice.
The bandit trembled and stammered.
"Please...please, sir...spare my life! The mute girl...is...over there." He said, pointing to the dark thatched hut in front of him.
Without a word, Nangong Min suddenly waved his hand, a flash of cold light streaking across the bandit's neck, leaving a bloody gash. Before the bandit could even cry out, his eyes widened, he instantly lost his strength, collapsed to the ground, struggled a few times, and then breathed his last.
The two men walked toward the thatched hut the bandits had pointed out, and as they approached, they heard a faint sobbing sound coming from inside.
The two men sensed something was wrong. Seeing that Mu Jin was about to rush in, Nangong Min was about to stop her to prevent the scene inside from offending her eyes, but Mu Jin turned around and went in even faster than Nangong Min.
Nangong Min's expression changed, and he reluctantly followed Mu Jin into the thatched hut.
But when the two entered the thatched hut, they saw the mute girl being pinned against the wall by a bandit, suffering from fright and torture.
Enraged by this sight, Mu Jin raised her hand and shot a poisoned needle at the bandit. The bandit fell to the ground and died instantly.
The mute girl was so frightened that she collapsed to the ground when she saw the bandit who had assaulted her moments before suddenly die in front of her.
Two men suddenly appeared in front of her. She quickly grabbed her torn clothes and covered her chest with her hands, shaking her head frantically.
Seeing the mute girl's humiliated and terrified appearance, Mu Jin quickly took off her coat and covered her with it.
"Don't be afraid, we are here to rescue you on the orders of Granny Ye."
Upon hearing this, a hint of surprise and hope instantly appeared in the mute girl's eyes.
Yesterday, she was captured from her home by bandits and brought here. She has suffered countless humiliations at the hands of bandits and feels ashamed to return to her husband's home to face her husband and mother-in-law.
She lost both her parents at a young age and survived by relying on the kindness of others. She finally managed to marry into her current family. Although they live in poverty, she and her husband have a harmonious relationship, and her mother-in-law dotes on her, giving her a happiness she has never experienced before.
Although she had considered suicide, she couldn't bear to leave her husband and mother-in-law. When she was arrested, her husband was beaten to the ground, his fate unknown. All she wanted was to live and go back to see if her husband and mother-in-law were alright.
The mute girl's will to survive made her grab Mu Jin's arm tightly. Mu Jin comforted her, saying, "Don't be afraid, we will take you down the mountain and home."
The mute girl nodded gratefully.
Mu Jin asked again, "Are you still able to walk?"
The mute girl slowly stood up and nodded to indicate that she was able to.
At this moment, Nangong Min looked around the thatched hut and, after confirming that there was no other danger, said to Mu Jin, "We shouldn't stay here any longer. Let's take her away from here first."
Mu Jin nodded, helped the mute girl up, and quietly left the thatched hut with Nangong Min.
