Chapter 17 The Inn

That deep mountain is not a place that ordinary people can enter at will. Moreover, due to her years of experience as a special agent, she is an extremely vigilant person. If she had seen them from the tree, she wouldn't have been completely oblivious.

She had a vague feeling that the man in front of her was related to the conman she had saved before, but she couldn't understand why the conman would lead her family to take her away.

Mu Jin did not reveal her true thoughts, but thanked Ling Yu. Ling Yu quickly waved her hand and said that she was welcome.

Since Mu Yan had already rewarded him with five hundred taels of silver, which was all he was supposed to do, Mu Jin raised an eyebrow and didn't ask any more questions.

After dinner, Mu Jin lay in the tent. There were still two days left to travel to the capital.

She needs to think about what path to take next.

In the real world, she had no relatives. Coming to this Eastern Yue Kingdom, how was she supposed to get along with her family? How was she supposed to divorce her cheap husband? Thinking about it, she sighed. This was even more difficult than going on a mission. However, she didn't think about it for long. Exhaustion prevented her from thinking too much and she fell asleep.

In the early morning, Mu Jin woke up to the aroma of food outside the tent. She went out of the tent and went to the stream to wash herself with the water in her hands.

Mu Yan came over carrying pancakes and fish soup cooked by the guards: "Ajin, have some, so we can get going soon."

Mu Jin smiled and accepted it.

Mu Yan frowned and said, "It's too much trouble for you to eat this in the middle of nowhere. When we get back to the capital, I'll take you to 'Xiangmingju' and order a table full of their signature dishes. I heard they hired a chef from Nanyue and rushed to find you. I haven't had a chance to try it myself."

Looking into Mu Yan's smiling and doting eyes, Mu Jin's heart softened as well: "Thank you, brother."

Mu Yan chuckled and said, "We siblings don't need to be so formal. Anything your brother has is yours."

Mu Jin said, "Don't all of my brother's things belong to my sister-in-law? When are you going to marry me a sister-in-law?"

Mu Yan said, "Hey! Let's talk about it when we have it. Even if we do, if you want what's mine, your sister-in-law can't say anything. If she treats you badly, I won't marry her."

Mu Jin smiled and silently ate the fish soup and naan bread that Mu Yan had brought. After everyone finished their breakfast, they began to pack their things and set off.

They galloped northwards towards the outskirts of the city, the scenery along the way still lush with green hills and clear waters, filled with birdsong and fragrant flowers, a truly delightful sight.

Suddenly, Mu Yan pointed to a road not far away and said, "Ah Jin, look! If you walk along that road for another twenty li, you'll reach the nearest post station."

Mu Jin was also very happy at this moment. In the past year since she arrived, all she had seen every day were endless mountains and the criminal slaves of the Yunwang Mansion.

She didn't actually feel a deep difference between the present world and the ancient world, because she had also trained in the primeval forest in the present world. Now, looking at the road not far away, it meant that she was about to truly come into contact with this strange and unknown era.

Mu Jin and the others ran quickly toward the road, when the guard in front suddenly raised his hand to signal them to stop.

Mu Yan tightened the reins: "Whoa! What's going on up ahead?"

The guard reported, "General, there's a person lying in the middle of the road ahead."

Mu Yan frowned and dismounted. Seeing this, Mu Jin also dismounted and followed Mu Yan toward the person lying in the middle of the road not far away.

Mu Yan looked at the man lying on the roadside. The man's face was very pale due to blood loss, and there were marks on his head and body from sword wounds.

The bright red blood stained his clothes a dark red, and the wounds on his body were deep and long. Moreover, the wounds on his clothes were too messy, which showed how fiercely the man had fought with many people before he fainted.

Mu Yan bent down and checked the man's breath with his finger. There was still a faint breath, so he gestured for the guards behind him to come forward.

Mu Yan said to the guards who stepped forward, "This person is still breathing. The post station is not far ahead. Take him with you, and we'll find a doctor to take a look at him later."

Mu Jin originally didn't want to get involved in this mess, but seeing that Mu Yan was planning to save the man, she didn't say anything more.

The man still showed signs of bleeding, and his face was too pale. For Mu Yan's sake, she said, "I have some hemostatic pills here. Give them to him, otherwise he won't make it to the post station."

The guard stepped forward, took Mu Jin's medicine, and gave it to the man. Then, he carefully helped the man onto the horse, tied the man to a guard, and continued riding with the others towards the post station.

After running for an hour, the group arrived at the post station entrance, where a guard handed the token to the postman.

After the courier saw the guard's token, he immediately knelt down, kowtowed to Mu Yan and the others, and then led them into the post station.

Before long, the postmaster hurriedly came over, bowed to Mu Yan, and said, "This humble official greets the general."

Mu Yan said, "No need for formalities. Please arrange some food and prepare rooms for us as soon as possible. There is an injured person here. Is it possible to get a doctor?"

The postmaster looked at the injured man and said, "Reporting to General Mu, there are no doctors within 20 li around here, but the post station has some medicine for wounds. I will arrange for someone to take this man to a guest room to treat his wounds."

Mu Yan nodded in agreement.

The postmaster led Mu Yan and the others to the dining hall, where soon they saw postmen bringing food to the table, including mutton soup, stir-fried pork, fried pig's trotters and tripe, pan-fried fresh fish, Mapo tofu, steamed buns, and other common dishes.

The postmaster said, "General, I'm really sorry, our post station is quite far from the county town, so the food is rather simple. If it's not enough, I'll have them bring more."

Mu Yan waved his hand, indicating that he did not need it. The postmaster breathed a sigh of relief and said, "Then General, please enjoy your meal. If you need anything, please let me know. I will take my leave without disturbing you any further."

After Mu Yan nodded, the postmaster withdrew.

Mu Yan placed a piece of fish into Mu Jin's bowl with his chopsticks and said, "You must be tired these past two days. I was in such a hurry to find you that I forgot to bring you a carriage. I really didn't think things through."

Mu Jin laughed and said, "Big brother still thinks of me as the pampered girl I used to be? You've forgotten that in the past year, I've led 17 servants over mountains and valleys to reclaim land and build houses!"

Mu Yan could also see that Mu Jin had changed a lot compared to three or four years ago.

These past two days, while traveling, he had been mindful that Mu Jin was a woman, so he would ask to stop and rest every now and then. But Mu Jin insisted on riding alongside them at full speed, and she was just as good as these grown men.

After dinner, Mu Jin returned to her room, while Mu Yan, after thinking for a moment, went to the room of the injured man.

Inside the guest room, the courier fed the man rice porridge. The man's head was wrapped in gauze, and his body had obviously been washed and treated with ointment for external injuries, but he remained unconscious.
