The carriage continued its rapid ascent through the mountains and forests.
At this moment, Su Yi lifted the carriage curtain and went out, shouting loudly at Ling Feng, who was riding a horse next to the carriage.
"Lingfeng, horse!"
Upon hearing Su Yi's command, Ling Feng slapped the saddle beneath him without a word, leaping up and giving up his horse to land beside Ling Yu in front of the carriage.
Mu Jin was suddenly helped up by Su Yi, who turned around and came back.
Before she could even stand up straight, her waist tightened. In an instant, Mu Jin's vision blurred, and she felt dizzy. In a flash, she was sitting on the horse's back, with Su Yi holding her tightly in his arms behind her!
"drive!"
Su Yi struck the horse hard with his sword sheath, and the horse, as if startled, ran incredibly fast in the pitch-black night.
But then came a series of whooshing sounds as countless arrows whizzed past them!
Mu Jin froze. She could clearly feel that behind her, Ling Feng and Ling Yu were standing on the carriage, desperately blocking them, slashing at the flying swords with their knives.
Mu Jin was immediately startled and horrified. These were scenes that she had only ever seen on television in the real world before, but now she was actually experiencing them.
She had experienced several robberies in Dongyue Kingdom, but compared to this one, the previous robberies were nothing.
Countless arrows whistled through the air, and Su Yi, mounted on horseback, occasionally swept a few back with all his might. The arrows flying from the darkness were instantly swept away.
Mu Jin felt a chill brush against her cheek every now and then; it was the arrows grazing her face, a truly terrifying moment!
It would be a lie to say they weren't nervous. With so many arrows shooting at them, they knew without a doubt how many people were behind them.
Su Yi held Mu Jin tightly in his arms, his fingers gripping the reins tightly. He quickly thought for a moment and said to Ling Feng and Ling Yu behind him, "You two continue forward!"
Before Mu Jin could react to Su Yi's words, he turned his horse around and galloped towards a deep, secluded forest!
The heavy shadows of the trees swept over them, but Mu Jin was covered by Su Yi's cloak and was not scratched by the treetops and wild grass.
Gradually, they also heard shouts from people and the clash of swords.
Mu Jin tried to peek out and look back, but Su Yi pulled her back into his cloak.
"Stay put and don't move, be careful not to get scratched by the branches," Su Yi said calmly and with concern to Mu Jin.
"What about Ling Feng and Ling Yu?" Mu Jin asked.
Su Yi replied simply and decisively, "They can handle it."
Su Yi spoke with certainty, which made Mu Jin feel that Su Yi had experienced this situation countless times, as if it were commonplace.
Mu Jin thought that since those people were so close to them, those who were chasing them should have noticed that they were running this way.
Thinking of this, her heart, which had just settled, unconsciously tightened again.
They ran for an unknown amount of time until no unusual sounds came from behind, at which point Su Yi reined in the horse and brought it to a stop.
Su Yi looked down at Mu Jin in his arms and breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that she was safe and sound.
"They don't seem to be catching up," Su Yi said to Mu Jin.
Mu Jin's tense expression finally eased slightly.
"We're not far from Wulan Town. Let's find a place to rest first and wait for Lingfeng and Lingyu to catch up."
Hearing Su Yi speak so confidently, Mu Jin knew that Ling Feng and Ling Yu should be unharmed.
Su Yi carried Mu Jin off the horse, took the water bag hanging on the saddle and carried it on his back, then gripped the sword sheath and lashed the horse's rump hard.
The horse, in pain, neighed, reared up, and galloped into the woods.
Seeing Su Yi release the horse, Mu Jin asked with some doubt, "If you release the horse, how will we escape if those people catch up with us?"
Su Yi laughed and said, "Putting the horses near us will make it harder for us to cover if those people really catch up. Besides, these horses are trained. They will run back to us at the sound of a command whistle, so you don't need to worry about that."
Hearing Su Yi say this, Mu Jin nodded in relief.
Using the moonlight, Su Yi looked around and saw a large boulder in front of him. He then took Mu Jin's hand and walked over.
There was a river next to the rocks. If outsiders passed by the rocks, they would not easily be spotted, but the two of them could easily see what was happening outside. For them, it was a good place to hide temporarily.
"Let's rest for a bit first," Su Yi said, sitting down next to Mu Jin. "We'll make plans once Ling Feng and Ling Yu arrive."
Mu Jin was still shaken by what had just happened. She and Su Yi sat down on the ground, leaning against the rocks.
Su Yi gently patted her back and comforted her, "Don't be afraid, I'm here, I won't let anything happen to you."
Mu Jin asked, "Were those people chasing us after you?"
Su Yi nodded: "It must be the group of people who chased me when we first met."
Mu Jin said irritably, "Who are you bothering, you idle prince? Or do you usually go out drinking and carousing and steal other people's women?"
Hearing Mu Jin say this, Su Yi chuckled softly. He had an exceptionally handsome face, with striking features and a gentle, refined demeanor.
To be honest, even Mu Jin, who usually disliked him so much, had to admit that Su Yi was handsome.
"Although I am a carefree prince, I am still in the way of many people. Ah Jin may experience more dangerous things than tonight when she is with me in the future."
"And another thing," Su Yi said with a grin, "With my looks, do I need to compete with others for women? It's more like other women are trying to steal me away, isn't that right, A-Jin?"
After Su Yi finished speaking, he moved closer to Mu Jin, but Mu Jin pushed him away.
Mu Jin looked at Su Yi with disdain: "Who wants to be with you in the future? Anyway, you help me rescue my brother from the Beiqi camp, and I will accompany you to the Southern Shu Kingdom. We will settle our accounts and go our separate ways. Don't bother me again."
Su Yi felt a pang of guilt upon hearing Mu Jin's words, but he kept his expression unchanged and continued to smile.
"That won't do. I'm planning to stick with you for the rest of my life. You can't get rid of me."
Hearing Su Yi say "a lifetime," Mu Jin couldn't help but think of Nangong Min, the man who, just half a month ago, kept telling her that he would stay by her side for a lifetime and would never leave her.
Judging by the timeline, Nangong Min should have already inherited the position of sect leader of the Nangong Divine Sect and married Bai Ling'er by now.
In the days since she left Nangong Shenzong, she has deliberately tried not to think about Nangong Min.
To say how deep her feelings for Nangong Min were, it probably wasn't even a tenth of what Nangong Min felt for her.
However, Nangong Min was, after all, the first man Mu Jin had seriously considered being with, so it would be a lie to say she wasn't upset. Thinking of this, she suddenly lost the desire to argue with Su Yi.
