Mu Yan had planned to take Mu Jin back to the capital after breakfast, but upon hearing the courier's report, he still went with Mu Jin to the injured man's room.
The brother and sister saw that the man was already able to sit up against the bed.
Hearing footsteps, the man looked towards the door and saw that besides the courier, there was a tall and strong man, and beside him was a woman of exceptional beauty.
The courier pointed at Mu Yan and said to him, "This is General Mu. He rescued you on the road yesterday."
Upon hearing that Mu Yan, who was standing opposite him, was his savior, the man thought of getting out of bed to express his gratitude, but Mu Yan forbade him to.
Mu Yan asked the man his name and why he was covered in injuries and had collapsed on the road. The man shook his head, indicating that he did not remember.
Seeing this, Mu Jin stepped forward and took the man's pulse.
Mu Yan looked at Mu Jin and said to the man, "This is my sister. She's the one who truly saved you. There are no doctors around here, but she knows a little about medicine. She treated you last night. She said last night that you would wake up today, and you really did."
Mu Jin smiled, feeling that her brother seemed to be showing off her medical skills.
The man looked at Mu Jin, the woman before him, who was placing her slender, fair fingers on his wrist to feel his pulse.
The woman had fair, jade-like skin and long, black hair that reached her waist. Her face was cold and intelligent. She frowned slightly, touched his head to observe him for a while, and then continued to take his pulse and think about his condition.
The man thanked Mu Jin, who glanced at him and simply nodded.
After taking the man's pulse, Mu Jin replied to Mu Yan, "Brother, this person's body recovers much faster than normal. He is now out of danger. He only suffered some superficial injuries and lost a lot of blood. With some tonics and a careful diet, he can recover."
Seeing that the man was so badly injured yesterday, yet was able to sit up today, Mu Yan was also surprised by his recovery ability.
But Mu Yan asked, puzzled, "Then why doesn't he remember anything?"
Mu Jin replied, "It's probably because there's still some blood stasis in his brain that hasn't been cleared, causing his amnesia. But once we find a doctor and get some medicine to clear the blood stasis, his memory will gradually return."
Mu Yan nodded and said to the man, "We are in a hurry to get back to the capital. Since you are alright, you can rest at this post station for a few days and then leave on your own."
The man forced himself to stand up and knelt on the ground to thank Mu Yan and Mu Jin.
"Thank you, General and Miss, for saving my life. However, my memory has not been restored. Even if my body recovers, there is no place for me in this vast world. Since you two saved me from danger, my life belongs to you both. I am willing to follow your orders to repay your life-saving grace."
Mu Yan said to the man, "You don't seem like someone who takes orders or lives under someone else's thumb. If you really have nowhere to go, you can come back to the capital with me for now. If your memory returns one day, you can leave on your own."
Upon hearing that Mu Yan was willing to take him in, the man bowed to Mu Yan in thanks and, with the help of the postman, left the post station with Mu Yan and his sister.
The postmaster had already arranged for a carriage to be waiting at the entrance. The carriage was originally prepared by Mu Yan last night for Mu Jin to use today.
Today, as they enter the capital, Mu Jin cannot ride a horse into the city with them, lest she cause unnecessary trouble.
The carriage was covered with thick cotton quilts, and Mu Yan had the postman help the man up to lie down.
Just as Mu Jin was about to mount her horse, Mu Yan ran over and stopped her.
“Ah Jin, this carriage was originally prepared for you. I didn’t expect that we would have to take him with us today. We still have most of the day to go to the capital. You can’t go back in public like this. I’m sorry to trouble you to ride in the carriage with that person.”
Hearing the conversation between the two siblings outside the carriage, the man struggled to his feet and said, "I can ride a horse," before trying to get off the carriage.
Mu Jin stepped forward to stop him, saying, "It's alright, this carriage is quite big, don't move it, lest all my efforts and medicine be wasted in saving you from the brink of death."
The man pursed his lips, his slender fingers gripping the cotton quilt on the carriage tightly, turning pale. He remained silent for a long time, knowing that his current body was indeed unable to ride a horse, but he did not want to cause trouble for the woman in front of him.
Before he could react, Mu Jin got into the carriage, helped the man lie down, and then sat back in front of the carriage, closing her eyes to rest.
The carriage slowly traveled along the road back to the capital. Mu Jin, who hadn't slept well the night before, quickly fell asleep as soon as she got in the carriage after closing her eyes to rest.
The man lying in the carriage quietly watched Mu Jin, secretly admiring her beautiful sleeping face under the cover of the carriage's dim light.
The man seemed to be admiring a beautiful painting, and he felt a sense of warmth and satisfaction for no reason.
He didn't understand why he felt this way. Perhaps it was because the woman in front of him was his savior. Without her, he would have been dead long ago. He secretly vowed that once he recovered, he would not let down the Mu family or the woman in front of him.
The carriage slowly drove into the bustling capital city, and Mu Jin woke up at that moment.
Mu Jin yawned softly, lifted a corner of the carriage curtain to look at this unfamiliar yet bustling place. She had been in Dongmu Kingdom for over a year, staying in the primeval forest, and this was the first time she had seen what this ancient capital city looked like.
She lowered the curtain and turned to look at the unfamiliar man who had sat up in the carriage at some point. The man was also looking at her. She didn't understand when he had sat up. Mu Jin blinked.
"How are you feeling?"
The man said, "I'm fine, thank you for your concern, miss."
Mu Jin moved closer to the man, and a faint, unique fragrance of a woman wafted into his nostrils.
Mu Jin used her hands to pull open the man's clothes to examine his wounds. At this moment, the man's body visibly tensed up, but Mu Jin did not notice anything unusual about him. Then she grabbed the man's wrist and took his pulse.
Mu Jin said, "Your body is severely depleted, so try to stay in bed as much as possible these next few days."
She then took out a few pills and a water pouch and handed them to the man, gesturing for him to take them. The man thanked her and took the pills.
Mu Jin said to the man, "Once we arrive at the General's Mansion, there will be better doctors to treat you. I believe you will recover soon."
He then sat back down in his original spot and continued to lift the curtain with his hand to look at the street scene.
The man's eyes darkened and he said softly, "No need for trouble. The medicine you gave me is very good. The wound doesn't hurt much anymore. I don't need anyone else to treat me."
Mu Jin wasn't really listening to what the man was saying; she was already captivated by the bustling street scene.
The carriage quickly arrived at the gate of the General's Mansion. The guards who were stationed at the gate all year round saw Mu Yan and ran over quickly. One of them hurriedly turned around and went into the mansion to report, while the other went forward to greet him.
"Young master is back. What's that carriage behind us?"
Then, Mu Jin lifted the carriage curtain in front of everyone and jumped off the carriage cleanly and neatly.
Seeing Mu Jin jump off the carriage, Mu Yan immediately frowned and said, "Ah Jin, slow down, be careful not to fall!"
Mu Jin turned around and smiled, "Isn't everything alright?"
Upon seeing this, the guards excitedly exclaimed, "Miss is back!"
