Chapter 42 The Thugs

Hearing Qing'er's cheerful urging, Mu Jin lifted the carriage curtain.

The top of Baishi Mountain is indeed a beautiful sight. Not far from them, there is a large, emerald-green lake with clear water nearby and covered bridges and waterside pavilions in the distance.

Every now and then you can see a few birds on the lake. When the birds fly across the lake, the surface is gently rippling, which is a pleasant sight.

Qing'er helped Mu Jin down from the carriage, and they walked slowly towards the lake with smiles on their faces. When Eleven saw Mu Jin's bright eyes and brows, which were even more radiant because of her happy mood, the corners of his mouth couldn't help but curve up.

Suddenly, the silence on the mountaintop was broken by the neighing of a horse.

The three turned around and found that the carriage that had gone up the mountain with them had not stopped after reaching the top. The driver was whipping the horses hard, and the horses were neighing wildly in fright and rushing towards Mu Jin.

Judging from their posture, it's obvious they're targeting Mu Jin.

With a cold expression, Eleven quickly leaped to Mu Jin's side, grabbed her waist tightly, and lifted her into the air.

Mu Jin felt a sudden lightness in her body, and before she could react, she was back beside her carriage. Qing'er, who was getting food from the carriage, realized what was happening and immediately went over to grab Mu Jin's arm and look her over.

"Miss, are you alright?"

Mu Jin pushed Qing'er aside and looked at Eleven.

At this moment, Eleven had already flown into the air towards the out-of-control carriage. He grabbed the coachman by the collar with one hand and delivered a swift chop, knocking the coachman unconscious. Eleven then threw him off the carriage.

At this moment, several masked thugs suddenly jumped out of the carriage, each holding a machete and looking fierce. Three of them slashed at Eleven without mercy, while the other two rushed towards Mu Jin and Qing'er.

Seeing this, Eleven transformed into a shooting star, swiftly weaving between the three men. He skillfully dodged the masked man's cleaver, quickly leaping up to retaliate with lightning speed, catching the man in black off guard. In just an instant, he had dispatched the three thugs in front of him.

When Mu Jin saw the thugs running towards her, she quickly analyzed in her mind whether she should run or stay and fight them.

Actually, she could barely handle it on her own, but Qing'er had no martial arts skills at all. Mu Jin wasn't sure if she could protect Qing'er while also fighting the thugs, so she pulled Qing'er down the mountain.

Mu Jin had only run a few steps with Qing'er when she noticed someone rapidly approaching the direction they were running.

Looking back, the two thugs were already within arm's reach of them, while Eleven had already dealt with the three thugs in the distance and was flying rapidly toward them, kicking down the two thugs who were about to approach Mu Jin.

Mu Jin pulled Qing'er to a stop. They were panting heavily as they watched Eleven fight with the two thugs.

Even though he was unarmed, Eleven killed two knife-wielding thugs with every move.

The two thugs were forced to retreat after only a few moves. Eleven gave them no chance to react. In the blink of an eye, the thugs' machetes were kicked away by Eleven. In their moment of panic, Eleven seized the machetes and slashed the throats of the last two thugs with a backhand. The thugs fell to the ground.

After dealing with the thugs, Eleven immediately ran to Mu Jin's side, anxiously checking to see if she was injured. He breathed a sigh of relief when he found that Mu Jin was unharmed.

"Your subordinate deserves to die; I have frightened you, Miss."

Mu Jin frowned and waved her hand, indicating that nothing was wrong.

Mu Jin walked to the thug's side and kicked the thug who was lying on the ground and not breathing.

He looked up and asked Number Eleven, "Are these people coming for us?"

At eleven o'clock, he nodded: "It was my carelessness. The carriage came out of the city gate with us. When I first noticed them, I stopped to observe them. At that time, they did not stop with us, but slowly drove along the road on the mountaintop until we reached the foot of the mountain before I saw them. I thought I was overthinking it, but now it seems that they may have known our itinerary all along."

Only the people from the Yunwang Mansion knew about the three's itinerary, while the people in Cuizhu Courtyard were all Mu Jin's dowry, so they shouldn't betray them. Apart from Shen Qianqian and her maid visiting Cuizhu Courtyard this morning, it's unclear whether the maids revealed their itinerary during their chatter.

Mu Jin sneered, "You're really willing to go all out, hiring six people to kill me. Judging by this show of force, you want me to be a one-way trip today."

Faced with this ordeal, Qing'er, her eyes red with tears, immediately suspected Shen Qianqian. After all, in the capital, Mu Jin rarely interacted with others and would never make enemies, so apart from Shen Qianqian, she really couldn't think of anyone else who could have done this.

"It must be that bitch Shen Qianqian. We only got her clothes wet this morning, and she sent people to kill us. How vicious!"

The three watched as Eleven quickly dispatched several thugs, revealing that their martial arts skills were mediocre; they were probably just ordinary martial artists or bandits who took money to avoid trouble.

Thinking of the comparison, Mu Jin stepped forward to check if the criminal had any other usable information, but was stopped by Eleven.

“Miss, don’t dirty your hands with such a filthy person. I’ll do it.”

As he spoke, Eleven examined the bodies of the criminals one by one. When he found the last criminal, he discovered that the criminal had Mu Jin's portrait and a thousand taels of silver notes on his body.

Upon seeing these, Eleven was instantly filled with murderous intent, but he quickly calmed himself down, turned around, and handed the items he had found on the thugs to Mu Jin.

When Mu Jin saw her portrait, she sneered, with an expression that said, "I knew it."

Qing'er was instantly enraged upon seeing this. She took two steps forward, cursing loudly while kicking the two dead thugs several times.

Mu Jin found it novel to see Qing'er, who was usually good-tempered, cursing and kicking the thugs at the same time, and couldn't help but laugh.

Seeing that Mu Jin was still smiling beside her, Qing'er couldn't help but complain.

"Miss, how can you still be laughing! They've already come knocking on our door."

"If I don't laugh, am I supposed to cry? Wouldn't that play right into their hands? I'll refuse to let them laugh at me!"

After finishing her sentence, Mu Jin instructed Eleven to report the case to the yamen (government office) after descending the mountain. She wanted to make a big deal out of it, so that everyone in the capital would know that the Princess Consort of the Yun Prince's Mansion had almost been harmed by a villain.

By this time, the three of them had lost all interest in enjoying the scenery and decided to return to the city.

As Eleven turned to fetch the horse, he carefully folded the portrait of Mu Jin that he had found on the thugs and hid it in his clothes while Mu Jin and her servants were not paying attention.

The three returned to the city. Mu Jin and Qing'er first rested at a teahouse next to the yamen, while Eleven went to the yamen to report the case.

Upon receiving the report, the officials immediately sent Eleven to Baishi Mountain to examine the crime scene.

As evening approached, Eleven rode into the city with the prefect of the yamen. Not far behind them, on a cart, lay the corpses of five bandits, attracting the attention and discussion of the local people as soon as they entered the city.

The eleven riders bowed to the prefect in thanks.

"Lord Zhao, this is an outrageous act that such a madman dared to lay a hand on the Princess Consort of the Yun Prince's Mansion in broad daylight. The nature of this act is extremely heinous. Please investigate this matter thoroughly and bring justice to the Yun Prince's Mansion as soon as possible."
