Chapter 57 Divorce

Upon hearing Mu Jin's request for a divorce, Su Mu did not speak immediately; he stared at Mu Jin for a moment.

Seeing that Su Mu didn't speak, Su Muxue was a little anxious for Mu Jin. She gently nudged Su Mu: "Father, say something."

Su Mu gave Su Muxue a warning look, signaling her not to get involved, then turned to look at Mu Jin again, and suddenly smiled.

"Get up and speak. Why do you want to divorce the third prince? I heard that you begged Marquis Muwei to come to me for this marriage."

Mu Jin stood up and looked up at Su Mu.

“Back then, I was young and ignorant, and I begged my father to ask the Emperor to grant me a marriage. My father loved his daughter dearly and had no choice but to agree. I beg the Emperor to forgive me.”

Upon hearing Mu Jin's reply, Su Mu's voice turned icy.

"Mu Jin, do you know that divorce is not a trivial matter? Is this the third brother's idea, or yours? Have you thought it through?"

Mu Jin gently raised her head: "Your Majesty, the matter of divorce was decided jointly by me and Prince Yun. I have been married to Prince Yun for three years and have no children. I was the one who asked for the marriage in the first place, and Prince Yun has no feelings for me at all. Rather than tormenting each other, it is better to set each other free."

"You are my royal wife, and you've voluntarily requested a divorce. Do you know what kind of impact this will have on the royal family's reputation? Will General Mu let you have your way this time?"

“My father is unaware of this matter. I suppose he loves me and will support my decision. I am willing to bear all the consequences of the divorce alone. I beg Your Majesty to grant my request.”

"What a wonderful statement about being willing to bear all the consequences alone."

Seeing that Su Mu was about to get angry, Su Muxue quickly tugged at Su Mu's sleeve, afraid that he would punish Mu Jin in his anger.

Su Mu ignored Su Muxue, brushed her hand away, and turned to look at Mu Jin.

"General Mu used his military merits to secure this marriage for you. What do you have to offer in exchange for this divorce? Since the marriage was obtained through military merits, then the divorce should also be obtained through something that benefits the country and its people."

Mu Jin frowned slightly. Judging from Su Mu's tone, it seemed that he was unwilling to agree to her divorce from Su Yuntian.

Mu Jin knew that Su Mu had been wary of the Mu family army colluding with Su Yuntian for the past few years. Now that she was asking for a divorce, Su Mu should have been the most supportive. She couldn't understand why Su Mu was still trying to stop her.

Seeing that Mu Jin did not respond for a long time, Su Mu thought that Mu Jin had backed down, so he said another sentence.

"Mu Jin, do you understand now? Do you still want a divorce?"

Mu Jin looked at Su Mu and slowly knelt down to bow to Su Mu.

"My desire for a divorce remains unchanged. However, I do not wish for my father to worry about me any longer. I am willing to bear the conditions for the divorce myself, and I hope Your Majesty will grant my request."

When Su Mu heard that Mu Jin wanted to take responsibility herself, he glanced at Mu Jin and a contemptuous smile appeared on his lips.

"Very good, you have ambition. If one day you can do something practical for the common people, I will grant your request, not only to divorce you, but even to divorce your husband."

"Thank you for granting my request, Your Majesty." Mu Jin knelt and kowtowed to Su Mu once again.

Seeing that she couldn't get Mu Jin to agree to the divorce today, and noticing the tense atmosphere, Su Muxue decided to take Mu Jin and run away.

"Alright, alright, your son and I will not disturb Father King any longer while he reviews the memorials."

Seeing that Su Mu did not answer, but gave her a cold look, Su Muxue smiled awkwardly. She walked to Mu Jin's side, helped Mu Jin up, and turned to lead Mu Jin to curtsy to Su Mu.

"Then your son and Ajin will take their leave first. Your son will come to see you again when Father has some free time."

As soon as she finished speaking, Su Muxue grabbed Mu Jin's hand and quickly left the Imperial Study.

After the two left, Su Mu took the tea from Jin Zhong, took a sip, raised an eyebrow, and said something to Jin Zhong.

"When did Mu Xue become friends with Mu Jin? I heard they even slept together last night."

Jinzhong bowed and hurriedly replied, "Perhaps the princess was already on good terms with Princess Yun before."

Su Mu sneered: "Hmph! Don't you understand Mu Xue's character? She's arrogant and haughty. How many people can catch her eye and get close to her? This Marquis Mu Wei is really capable of raising such a good daughter."

Upon hearing Su Mu's words, Jin Zhong dared not reply. He simply stood cautiously beside Su Mu and smiled.

Because of Su Yuntian's marriage alliance with the Mu family, Su Mu transferred 100,000 Mu family troops away from the border. He was not afraid of Mu Weihou's rebellion, after all, he knew the importance of Mu Jin to Mu Weihou. As long as Mu Jin was in the capital, Mu Weihou would not rebel.

In Su Mu's eyes, Mu Jin was nothing more than a woman who couldn't shoulder any responsibility or lift a finger. No matter how smart she was, she couldn't turn the world upside down.

Su Muxue pulled Mu Jin out of the imperial study, and she smiled shyly at Mu Jin.

"Ah Jin, I'm sorry I couldn't help you. Perhaps Father is in a bad mood today. Another day, when he's in a better mood, I'll speak to him on your behalf."

"Your Highness has already helped me a great deal today, and I am truly grateful," Mu Jin replied gently.

Su Muxue thought Mu Jin would be upset because Su Mu hadn't granted her permission to divorce. She was also someone who cared about her reputation, and she felt quite embarrassed for not being able to help Mu Jin today. Seeing that the weather was nice today, Su Muxue suggested that she and Mu Jin go for a stroll at Shuyu Tower.

Mu Jin had important things to do today and didn't want to waste time with Su Muxue. She raised an eyebrow at Su Muxue and said.

"We just met yesterday, and today the princess is already eager to see Zhao Yefan again? What's that saying again? 'A day apart feels like an eternity...'"

Upon hearing Mu Jin mention Zhao Yefan, Su Muxue immediately stepped forward and covered Mu Jin's mouth with her hand, glaring at Mu Jin with her eyes, glancing around, and muttering curses under her breath.

"What nonsense are you talking about? Who wants to see Zhao Yefan? I went to Shuyu Tower just to... just to... oh, right, just to buy something to appease Father and help you persuade him to agree to your divorce from Su Yuntian as soon as possible. Don't be ungrateful."

Mu Jin smiled maliciously at Su Muxue, who felt embarrassed when she was seen, and quickly said something to Mu Jin.

"Oh, right, Father King hired a top-notch musician for me today. I almost forgot about it. I can't accompany you out of the palace now, I'm going to learn the zither. I'll find you to go to the theater to watch a play another day."

After saying that, without waiting for Mu Jin's reply, Su Muxue ran away in a flash. Watching Su Muxue run away, Mu Jin couldn't help but smile, but thinking that she couldn't find a way to divorce Su Yuntian in the short term, she couldn't help but frown again.

Mu Jin was led out of the palace gate by a palace maid. She originally thought she would ask for a carriage to go back to her residence. Unexpectedly, at the place where she got off the carriage yesterday, Eleven was leaning against the carriage and looking towards the palace gate. So when she came out of the palace gate, Eleven happily greeted her.

Shiyi asked Mujin with concern if she had eaten breakfast.

Mu Jin had breakfast with Su Muxue before meeting Su Mu, so she nodded to indicate that she had eaten and also asked if Eleven had eaten as well. Upon receiving an affirmative answer from Eleven, the two walked together towards the carriage.

But when Mu Jin reached the carriage, she sensed something was wrong and turned to look at Eleven.

“You haven’t left since yesterday, and where did you have breakfast? Didn’t they tell you that I was staying at the palace last night?”
