Chapter 82 Spending New Year's Eve at the General's Mansion

"Miss is back!" the guard who walked towards Mu Jin said happily.

During the few days Mu Jin returned to the capital, she frequented the General's Mansion and became familiar with every maid and guard there.

Mu Jin laughed with the guard, "Yes, I'm back to spend New Year's Eve with everyone. Maybe I won't leave again!"

The guards didn't find anything wrong with Mu Jin saying that she might not leave in the future, as if Mu Jin was supposed to stay in the General's Mansion forever.

After exchanging pleasantries with the guards, Mu Jin turned to Eleven and said, "Go back to the Yun Prince's Mansion and bring back all the maids from the Green Bamboo Courtyard. Also, send a letter to the Yi Prince's Mansion, saying that the Emperor has agreed to my request and that Su Yi should prepare food and clothing as soon as possible so that he can leave the city early tomorrow morning to provide disaster relief."

Eleven accepted the order and turned to leave.

Mu Jin stepped into the gates of the General's Mansion again, and only then did she feel like she was coming home.

Mu Jin sometimes feels really fortunate that she was able to travel to this family and become a member of it.

The servants, who have no masters in the mansion, have all gathered in the general's mansion kitchen today to make dumplings for the festival.

Upon hearing the announcement that the young lady was returning to the mansion for New Year's Eve, everyone was overjoyed and continued to busy themselves with slaughtering chickens and ducks and making soup for Mu Jin.

They seemed unaware of anything amiss about their young lady not spending the Lunar New Year at her husband's home. All they knew was that their young lady's return to the mansion to celebrate the festival tonight was as joyful as their master and young master returning home after a victorious battle.

While the servants were busy in the kitchen, Mu Jin returned to her Qingwan Courtyard to freshen up. She took off her heavy princess uniform and put on the dress she had bought when she returned to the general's mansion, and then put on a white fox fur cloak that Mu Yan had hunted for her.

Her half-dry hair was loosely tied into a simple bun at the back of her head and secured with a simple jade hairpin. At first glance, the maids thought that Mu Jin looked as if she had never been married.

When Mu Jin arrived at the dining hall, Eleven and the maid from the Green Bamboo Courtyard had already returned to the mansion, their faces beaming with joy.

Mu Jin instructed the servants to move tables and chairs into the dining hall, as she wanted to sit around a table with the servants of the General's Mansion and gather together.

During the banquet, Mu Jin and her servants chatted and laughed, creating a harmonious atmosphere. Mu Jin smiled warmly at everyone present.

Halfway through dinner, Mu Jin raised her wine glass and said gently to the servants, "Thank you all for your hard work at the General's Mansion this past year. Even when my father, brother, and I were not here, you all managed the mansion very well. I am very grateful. Here, I wish you all good luck and all your wishes come true in the new year."

Upon seeing Mu Jin's words of blessing, the servants cheered loudly for Mu Jin, raised their wine glasses, and offered their blessings to Mu Jin one after another.

Hearing the servants' blessings, Mu Jin slowly put down her wine cup, slightly suppressing her smile as she continued.

"There is another matter. As we all know, the plague is raging both inside and outside the city. I plan to set aside a month's worth of food for the general and donate the rest to the people outside the city. In addition, I will personally go out of the city with the Ministry of Personnel and the Imperial Medical Academy to help the people outside the city get through this disaster."

No one is unafraid of the plague. Although the servants of the General's Mansion all knew what the plague meant, they all hoped that Mu Jin could stay in the mansion so that they could represent the General's Mansion to go out of the city to assist the court and help the people affected by the disaster.

Mu Jin looked at the people in the General's Mansion, all of whom were full of courage and determination. Even though everyone knew that the plague would endanger their lives, everyone was selfless and fearless. Mu Jin smiled with satisfaction.

She told everyone that before they went, she would have Eleven brew a decoction to prevent the plague. After drinking it, everyone should wear masks and wash their hands frequently after contact with patients, which would reduce the probability of infection.

Upon hearing this, the servants in the mansion all expressed their willingness to follow Mu Jin's arrangements.

Mu Jin finished discussing the arrangements for tomorrow with everyone when the gatekeeper came to report that Su Yi was requesting an audience.

Thinking that Su Yi must be concerned about the supplies they would need to leave the city the next day, Mu Jin had the gatekeeper bring Su Yi into the mansion.

A short while later, Mu Jin saw Su Yi walk into the dining hall carrying a box of gifts.

"Ah Jin, this is quite a lively place. I haven't had my meal yet tonight. It seems you've come at just the right time."

Upon seeing Su Yi enter the dining hall, everyone from the General's Mansion, except for Mu Jin, stood up to greet him. Su Yi told them to dispense with the formalities and then carried the gifts toward Mu Jin.

By this time, the servants of the General's Mansion had almost finished eating. Since they had to get up early the next day to help the disaster victims outside the city, they all left the dining hall, leaving only Eleven, Qing'er, and Ling Feng standing behind Mu Jin and Su Yi to serve them.

Su Yi sat down next to Mu Jin, and Qing'er served him a bowl of steaming dumplings. Su Yi thanked Qing'er, picked up a dumpling and put it in Mu Jin's bowl, then picked up another one and ate it slowly.

"Yes! The dumplings at the General's Mansion are different from those elsewhere; they always taste better than those from other places."

As Su Yi ate, he kept praising how delicious the dumplings at the General's Mansion were, as if he had never eaten such delicious dumplings before.

Mu Jin watched as Su Yi ate dumplings with gusto, yet remained elegant and composed, and couldn't help but expose him.

"That's enough. Everyone knows that King Yi is very particular about food and drink. I'm not going to send you away. Hurry up and eat. After you finish, you can tell me about the matter of raising supplies."

Hearing Mu Jin's merciless rebuttal, Su Yi wasn't annoyed. He smiled and said to Mu Jin.

“What I said is the truth, why don’t you believe me, Ah Jin? You don’t have to wait until I finish eating before you talk, I can talk while I eat.”
