It turned out that when they entered the city yesterday, Su Yi and his group discovered that the group of outsiders who had clashed with the gate guards were suspicious. So after resting for half a day, they planned to leave through another city gate under the cover of night.
However, not long after they left Taixin City, they realized that the group of people had been following them all the way.
So Ling Yu and the others sounded the whistle, signaling the hidden guards to go and deal with the group.
However, that group was large in number, and a small portion of them were sent to hunt them down.
Ling Feng and Ling Yu protected Su Yi and Mu Jin's carriage as they continued along the official road.
When the group caught up, Su Yi led Mu Jin on horseback and fled into the forest, while Ling Feng and Ling Yu held off the rest.
Outnumbered and outgunned, the newcomers were highly skilled in martial arts, and Ling Feng and Ling Yu fought them with great difficulty.
Ling Feng ran forward, holding them off for a long time, until Ling Yu also dealt with the pursuers and turned to this road, breaking through from behind and finally rescuing Ling Feng.
However, the enemy had a large number of people, and they fought with them in the woods for a long time. Later, they found an opportunity and hid in the woods, no longer engaging the enemy in direct combat.
It wasn't until Su Yi's hidden guards found the forest that they managed to drive the group away.
Mu Jin was surprised. It turned out that the group of refugees they met at the Taixin City Gate were actually people who came to kill them. No wonder Su Yi looked at that group with such a cold expression.
What surprised her even more was that she had always thought that only Ling Feng and Ling Yu were protecting her and Su Yi along the way, but she never expected that there was a group of hidden guards protecting them behind her where she couldn't see them.
Ling Yu continued, "We were lucky to find our way here because we had the marks left by our master along the way."
"On our way here, we found that horse, and it led us here to find our master and Miss Mu."
Mu Jin took a roasted rabbit leg from Su Yi and asked while eating, "So, there are still some of your people around here?"
Su Yi smiled, which was taken as tacit agreement.
Mu Jin asked, "How did you figure out that the group of refugees outside Taixin City were acting strangely?"
Ling Yu said, "It is rumored that Beiqi and Dongyue will fight, which is why they fled to Taixin City. However, the war has not yet started, and Wulan City is not a border city, and the ownership of the city has not been determined, so they moved their whole family ahead of schedule."
“Those who can do these things are usually from wealthy families, and how could someone from a wealthy family not even be able to afford half a tael of silver to enter the city?”
"Furthermore, ordinary people are too afraid to even see government officials, let alone dare to start a conflict with government soldiers. It's not like they have to enter Taixin City for life or death."
"There is another very important problem. As soon as we arrived in Taixin City, that group of people kept an eye on us. Their disturbance was just to get the government troops to close the city gates and prevent us from entering."
Mu Jin was shocked. She had overlooked these obvious details. She was so careless! She couldn't help but feel annoyed and began to wonder if it was because she had become accustomed to Su Yi handling everything after being with him, and that she had become lax and let her guard down.
After finishing their breakfast, the four continued on their journey.
Su Yi leaned back lazily after getting into the carriage and said, "We'll be at Yanmen Pass in two days. I'll figure out a way to get you to the Dongyue camp so you can meet General Mu."
Mu Jin said, "I will go with you to Beiqi Camp to rescue my brother first, and then I will go to see my father."
Su Yi laughed and said, "You spent ten thousand taels of silver to have me rescue Mu Yan. How could I need you to lift a finger? Or are you questioning my abilities?"
Mu Jin looked at Su Yi, but she did not question his abilities.
When Mu Jin first met Su Yi, she thought he was a spoiled and idle prince. But after knowing him for a long time, she realized that Su Yi was not the useless person that outsiders saw him to be. His hidden abilities and the power behind him were not to be underestimated.
Mu Jin said, "I just want to rescue my older brother myself."
Su Yi understood perfectly well. He sat up straight and moved closer to Mu Jin.
"Don't worry, we'll arrive in Ulan City tonight and get the latest news. We'll make further plans then."
The two had nothing to do in the carriage, and since they were sitting in the swaying carriage, and were feeling sleepy after eating, they were quite tired.
There were two long, soft cushions in the carriage, perfect for lying down and sleeping.
Whenever Mu Jin lay down to rest on the soft cushion, Su Yi would always like to sit down next to her.
Once Mu Jin was fast asleep, Su Yi would gently lift her head and place it on his lap. Then he would lean back in the carriage, close his eyes, and fall asleep himself.
However, when Su Yi was with Mu Jin, he was always half asleep and half awake, and he would open his eyes every now and then to check if Mu Jin was lying comfortably or if she was covered with a blanket properly.
Ling Feng and Ling Yu followed Su Yi and Mu Jin all the way. By chance, they saw through the blowing carriage curtain that Su Yi and Mu Jin would always lean against each other while they were sleeping.
It felt as if Su Yi and Mu Jin could only find solace by relying on each other so intimately.
They entered Ulan City at dusk.
They checked into an inn and had dinner in the evening. Su Yi then told Mu Jin to go back to her room to rest, saying that he had to go out for a while.
Mu Jin knew that Su Yi was probably going to meet someone to learn about the rescue of Mu Yan.
So even though Mu Jin was exhausted, she lay on the inn bed with her eyes closed, but her mind was unusually clear. She kept a close eye on the movements in Su Yi's room across the way, afraid of missing Su Yi's return.
When Su Yi returned to the inn, it was close to midnight. He walked to Mu Jin's room, stood there for a while, and was about to turn around and go back to his own room when Mu Jin's door opened at just the right moment.
