Chapter 255 Bewilderment

Behind them, the soil from half a mountain surged towards them like a raging torrent.

At that critical moment, Su Yi suddenly swung the hop vines towards Mu Jin. The vines wrapped around Mu Jin's waist, forcefully pulling her out of the mud and rocks, and holding her tightly in his arms.

Su Yi suddenly leaned down and bit Mu Jin's lips hard, gritting his teeth as he said, "You're lying to me again! You want to abandon me and run away!"

But in an instant, he whispered softly in her ear, "Fine, it's not the first or second time you've fooled me, one more time won't matter. Just remember this: from now on, you must take good care of yourself and never be soft-hearted towards others again!"

After hearing what Su Yi said, Mu Jin saw Su Yi smile at her, but before she could react, she was lifted into the air by a great force. Only then did she realize that Su Yi had used vines to wrap around her body and used his internal energy to throw her forward.

When Mu Jin rolled to the ground, she was surprised to find that she was already more than ten feet away from Su Yi.

Mu Jin watched from afar as Su Yi seemed to be exerting all his strength, unable to even stand steadily. He suddenly knelt on the ground, spat out a mouthful of blood, and then fell heavily to the ground without moving.

"Su Yi!" Mu Jin's heart-wrenching cries echoed through the valley.

Mu Jin rushed towards Su Yi's location with all her might, as if she were a madwoman. All the soldiers who had fled with them earlier were buried under the thick mud.

The entire valley was silent except for Mu Jin's desperate and piercing cries as she ran; the silence was suffocating.

Mu Jin watched helplessly as the collapsing mountain approached Su Yi with unstoppable force, but she did not stop. Instead, she ran even faster, as if she was afraid that if she slowed down, she would not be able to die with Su Yi.

Mu Jin ran to Su Yi's side. She looked at the unconscious Su Yi, whose pale mouth still bore traces of blood that had just been spat out.

Mu Jin felt as if her heart was being torn apart. She hugged Su Yi tightly in her arms and gently wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth with trembling hands.

However, in an instant, the mountain's soil swept in, swallowing the two of them whole, and the valley instantly returned to silence.

On the high mountain outside the valley, Su Yuntian coldly watched everything that was happening at the bottom of the valley. The cold wind blew his cloak behind him, making a soft rustling sound.

Xiao Chuan, who was standing next to Su Yuntian, glanced at him furtively, but he couldn't see the expression on Su Yuntian's face.

Logically, Dongyue should have won this battle, and Su Yuntian should have been filled with the joy of a victor. However, Su Yuntian was as silent as death.

Just as Xiao Chuan was considering whether to ask Su Yuntian for instructions on what to do next, Su Yuntian calmly spoke up and ordered him, "Go and see if there are any survivors."

"Yes, sir!" Xiao Chuan quickly nodded and bowed, "I will immediately send men to investigate."

So the Dongyue army dispersed in all directions, carrying torches to explore the valleys.

Countless people were buried by the mountain; this place is practically a mass grave.

The Dongyue soldiers had just witnessed the collapse of the mountain burying everything here, and they were still in shock. Therefore, they did not dare to conduct a thorough search. They only glanced at the edge before returning to Su Yuntian's side to report back.

"Your Majesty, there was no survivor in the valley."

Seeing that Su Yuntian remained silent, the soldier added, "This time, Dongyue lost 10,000 soldiers, but Nanshu suffered even greater losses, losing at least 20,000 men."

"Besides, the mountain has collapsed. If we walk on this soft, wet soil, we might get stuck. Our next step is to take another hundred miles to reach Liangmen Pass."

Su Yuntian hesitated for a moment, then asked instead of responding to the soldier, "What about the emperor and female general of Southern Shu?"

The man was taken aback, then immediately replied, "It's most likely buried under this soil."

Looking out, the mountain above had collapsed and the valley had been leveled, devoid of any life.

It is virtually impossible for anyone to get out of here alive.

Su Yuntian remained silent for a moment, then muttered to himself, "Fine, since you ultimately refuse to return to my side, then die by my hand."

"I only feel regret that you two died together. But it doesn't matter. Once I have recovered all of Southern Shu, I will order people to retrieve your body and bury it in the imperial mausoleum. Even in death, you will still be my woman. After I pass away, I will be buried with you."

It was clear that he was speaking to Mu Jin. Mu Jin's death left him with a sense of lingering resentment.

Mu Jin had always wanted to escape his control, but he never expected that he would have to resort to such means to keep her by his side. It was truly a pity.

However, he did not feel there was anything wrong with it. Since she was unwilling to be his woman while she was alive, then she could only be buried in his imperial mausoleum after she died.

Su Yuntian pulled on the reins, turned the horse around, and laughed loudly twice. He then said, "You must not have expected that that good-for-nothing Nangong Ce would actually develop such powerful gunpowder for me. I only need to place the gunpowder on the mountains around here."

"With this one pull, the surrounding mountains collapsed. No matter how many soldiers you have in Southern Shu, they are no match for my few boxes of gunpowder. I want to see how your so-called maternal grandfather, Emperor Gaozong, will fight against my gunpowder after you are dead."

"Once I have destroyed Southern Shu, then Northern Qi, and seized this world, I will have your remains dug up, smashed, and fed to the dogs!"

Clearly, these words were spoken to Su Yi, and then the sound of horses' hooves gradually faded into the distance. Finally, the group disappeared without a trace.

At that moment, in the deep valley, a pile of soil suddenly emerged from which half of a hand, covered in blood and frozen blue, emerged.

Mu Jin's body was numb, and she couldn't feel the cold. She was exhausted and only wanted to sleep. However, her whole body ached unbearably, as if sharp steel needles were piercing her, making it impossible for her to fall asleep regardless of everything.

"Su Yi," Mu Jin squinted, her parched throat emitting a hoarse sound. Seeing no response, she called again, "Su Yi?"

There was still no response. The stinging pain all over her body seemed to be trying to awaken her memory, and she suddenly opened her eyes. She found herself lying under a patch of mud, surrounded by complete darkness.

She's asleep here, so where is Su Yi? Su Yi, yes, she remembered. Before she lost consciousness, she was holding Su Yi when they were buried by the mud from the landslide.

Mu Jin struggled for a while before finally getting up from the thick, sticky mud. Her whole body was covered in mud, with no clean spot, except for her bloodshot eyes filled with tears, which were still relatively clear.

Mu Jin looked around blankly. She was the only one left in the entire valley, and tears finally streamed down her face.
